The Sheet Hits the Fans!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “The Facts of Life’s” Mindy Cohn, “The Love Boat’s” Jill Whelan and Mackenzie Phillips and Glenn Scarpelli from the original “One Day at a Time” will visit “Stars In The House” tomorrow, the latest guests to join the online livestream series benefiting The Actors Fund’s COVID-19 efforts. The special “Throwback Thursday” episode airs at 8 p.m. ET on the Stars In The House YouTube channel and on starsinthehouse.com. The guests will share childhood memories and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from their respective shows, and answer viewer questions in real time.

★ Steven Spielberg has revealed that plans for a sequel to “The Goonies” resurface ”every couple of years”. The film tells the story of a group of kids who attempt to save their homes from foreclosure and in the process, they unearth an old treasure map that takes them on an adventure. Spielberg, whose original story was the basis of the hit 1985 adventure comedy – says there is always hope for a follow-up and he is always talking to writer Chris Columbus, director Richard Donner and his wife Lauren Shuler Donner about plans for a potential movie.

★ The final episodes of “Fuller House” finally have a premiere date at Netflix. Season 5, Part 2 will hit the streaming service on June 2, bringing a close to the second iteration of the family comedy. “Fuller House” first debuted in 2016 and served as a continuation of the 1980s comedy “Full House,” following Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber’s characters from the former “TGIF” sitcom.

★ Rob Lowe says that Tom Cruise went ”ballistic” at having to share a hotel room with him as they were auditioning for 1983’s “The Outsiders”. He believes that Cruise’s tantrum showed his desire to succeed as an actor and that he demanded high standards. Lowe said: “What’s great about the story is, there’s certain people who have always been who they are, and that element of them has powered them to where they are today and the rest is history.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:

• Billie Eilish and Post Malone — lead the nominations for the Webby Awards 2020. The annual ceremony celebrating the internet will be held virtually on May 19. Eilish is up for “Viral Video” for her ‘Watches Fan Covers’ YouTube video. Malone’s ‘Circles’ is up for best Art and Experimental video. Other nominees include Lizzo, Ariana Grande, The Rolling Stones, Wiz Khalifa and Celine Dion.
• Halsey and Ariana Grande — both plan to bid on the May Queen floral gown from “Midsommar” when it goes to auction next week. The dress, which was worn by Florence Pugh in the 2019 movie – is one of the items being auctioned off to raise money for coronavirus relief efforts.
• Dave Grohl – On Monday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, he was part of a touching surprise for a nurse who’s been treating COVID-19 patients. TJ Riley knew he was going to meet Kimmel, but he didn’t know he’d be meeting one of his favorite musicians of all time. Grohl serenaded Riley with an acoustic version of ‘Everlong’. Then he thanked Riley for all the work he’s done.
• Metallica – Lars Ulrich says that if the quarantine lasts for another six months to a year, “there’s a very good chance” the band will emerge with a new album, with each member contributing remotely.
• Bruce Springsteen — The organizers of the world’s first club night to play nothing but his music have announced that they’ll be playing a virtual 24-hour DJ set to raise money for charity. The Hungry Heart UK club night will feature 24 hours of nothing but The Boss this Saturday in a bid to raise $12,500 for Childline, Trussell Trust, Barts Trust, Age UK and Hospice UK.
• Keith Urban – says he is trying to stay as ”creative” as possible during lockdown. He’s quarantining at home with wife Nicole Kidman and their daughters, and said: ”Luckily I had a lot of songs recorded, so I could just keep moving on with that in my studio downstairs, doing some vocals, guitar, stuff like that.”
• Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood — will play the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night. The Opry House will be empty, but fans can watch live on the Circle Network and on Facebook, via the Grand Ole Opry’s, Brooks’ and Yearwood’s Facebook pages.
• Willie Nelson – is auctioning off a pair of signed face masks to raise funds to produce more masks for those who need them. Houston, Texas, residents Tanya Boike and Monica Cabazos have been making and distributing face masks, and made a pair for Nelson and his wife, Annie, which they decided to auction off. Both masks currently have bids of over $2,000.

PANDEMIC BRAIN:
If you feel like your brain is turning to mush during coronavirus lockdown, you’re not alone. As the days seem to blur together (is this Wednesday – or Sunday? And does it matter?) many find themselves forgetting even the simplest of details. And it might seem like it’s getting harder to concentrate and taking longer to complete tasks. Elissa Epel, a professor of psychiatry at the University of California, says this is the perfect storm for disorientation, between changes in environment, loss of social anchors and increases in stress, plus there’s the fact that you might not be getting the quality sleep that you’re used to. Here’s what she suggests: Maintain a sense of structure, including going to bed and waking at the same time each day. Take frequent breaks, exercise, eat healthy and limit news consumption. Oh, and if you’re going out, wear a mask. That won’t help your brain, but you should anyway.
(And I just thought that my kids were driving me crazy!)
(Hey! When I agreed to go into isolation, no one said anything about exercise and eating healthy!)
(It wouldn’t be so bad if we could switch up who we are isolated with every week or so!)

I SCREEN, YOU SCREEN, WE ALL SCREEN:
While we’re all concerned with the amount of “screen-time” our children are getting during coronavirus lockdown, a psychology professor says children need MORE screen time these days. Chris Ferguson of Stetson University in Florida feels that during this strange period in history, additional screen time for kids is healthy so they are able to maintain their social contacts and interact with their peers. While he cautions that it should be kept in balance with other activities, Ferguson says that, like adults, kids are facing social isolation, which can have mental health consequences. According to him, “One of the ways for kids to alleviate that isolation and maintain their friendships in social relationships is through screens, such as playing with other kids through video games online, (and) interact with their smart phone with social media.”
(Like I had a choice in the matter…)
(Can you imagine what it would have been like to go through this thing before the internet?)
(Sure, I could parent without screen time. I could also churn my own butter, but let’s not get crazy here!)

KNEES, PLEASE:
And the latest hot fitness trend is…crawling! Believe it or not, many fitness experts are getting aboard with the concept that crawling can be an important part of a fundamental fitness regimen. Apparently, when you crawl, it’s like “pressing reset” on your central nervous system and revisiting mobility patterns you learned as a baby (no kidding!). But they say it helps to bring all of the parts involved in coordination, movement and reflexive stability into synchronization. It also forces you to work in order to be able to breathe, keep your head up and crawl at the same time. Crawlers also have to contract their abdominal muscles, and use their back and other core muscles to maintain that position while propelling themselves forward. And yes, crawling is rough on the knees, but many crawling exercises involve being up on your feet rather than on your knees, which further activates the core muscles and the body’s ability to balance.
(Why not? It’s not like it’d be the first exercise that brought me to my knees!)
(And let’s face it – it’s a good skill to have if you wear contact lenses!)
(I haven’t tried to crawl in a long, long time. Probably New Year’s Eve!)

HACKS TO STOP FOOD CRAVINGS:
➢ Sunshine:  A ravenous appetite often develops because of a lack of serotonin. Sunshine brightens up your mood and minimizes the risk of binge eating. (It also melts that chocolate bar you were planning to eat…)
➢ Tea:  Hot, unsweetened tea can be very soothing for your stomach and can ease the craving sensations.
➢ Meditate:  It helps you cope with stress, which is often the cause of these seemingly insatiable attacks.
➢ Cool off your palate:  An ice-cold sensation in your mouth works wonders against cravings. Feel some cravings coming on? Just suck on an ice cube.
➢ Vitamins:  Instead of chocolate or other sweet stuff, eat a handful of dried fruits. This way your body receives not only the sweetness you’re seeking, but also vitamins and minerals.
➢ Coffee break: Coffee or green tea can reduce your appetite and boost your metabolism. (Especially when you have them with a donut!)
(And of course you can always try MY tried and true method: The Buffet.)

The war veteran has already raised more than £28 million for the National Health Service by walking 100 laps of his garden, and his song, with Michael Ball and The NHS Voices of Care Choir, is part of his continued fundraising during the coronavirus crisis.

• “Spank Out Day”, initiated in 1998 to give widespread attention to the need to end corporal punishment of children and to promote non-violent ways of teaching kids appropriate behavior.

• “Bugs Bunny Day”, Bugs made his debut in a cartoon called “Porky’s Hare Hunt.” on this date in 1938. Perhaps the reason people don’t recognize Bugs from that early cartoon is that he was credited as “Happy Rabbit.”

• “Oatmeal Cookie Day”, they’ve been around since the 1800s. The cookies quickly became popular, and by early the 1900s, a recipe for the delicious treats appeared on containers of Quaker Oats. Oatmeal cookies are also considered health food because they are an excellent source of iron and fiber. Just another reason to have an oatmeal cookie today!

BS SIGNS YOU’RE TOO HONEST:
• When everyone in the elevator starts to wince you proudly announce, “It was me!”
• When someone asks why you’re selling an item at your garage sale you say: “Because it’s a piece of crap that I don’t want anymore, but rather than toss it out I thought some idiot might give me money for it.”
• When you call your ex at 3 am you admit, “I’m hammered and I’m desperate.”
• When you’re late for work and the boss asks, “Heavy traffic?” you say, “No, I hate you, I hate this job and I wait until the last possible minute to leave the house each morning.”
• Every time your wife asks you if you think she needs to lose some weight, you end up sleeping on the couch.
