Brand New Sheets!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ NBC’s comedy institution “Saturday Night Live” is crossing the pond to launch a British edition in partnership with British broadcaster Sky. The iconic sketch show, a cornerstone of American pop culture since 1975, will debut “Saturday Night Live U.K.” in 2026, bringing its mix of political satire, celeb impersonations and musical performances to British and Irish audiences. “SNL” mastermind Lorne Michaels will serve as executive producer for the UK adaptation while continuing to steer the American show. The London-based version will follow the same format that has made SNL a cultural juggernaut, and details on the spinoff — including cast members, and an exact premiere date — will roll out in the coming months.
-Variety, TVLine
★ New films from Wes Anderson, Richard Linklater and the Dardenne brothers will premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Anderson will be back with “The Phoenician Scheme,” which premiered a baffling trailer at CinemaCon. Linklater is heading to France with “Nouvelle Vague,” about Jean-Luc Godard and the filming of “Breathless” in the 1960s. The Dardenne brothers have “Young Mothers,” which gives them a chance to become the first filmmakers to win the Palme d’Or 3 times. Actors in the festival making their directorial debuts include Scarlett Johansson with “Eleanor the Great,” and Harris Dickinson, with “Urchin.” Spike Lee has said his film “Highest 2 Lowest” starring Denzel Washington will premiere out of competition in Cannes, but that was not part of the official announcement.
-TheWrap, HollywoodReporter
★ “The Last of Us” has been renewed by HBO for a third season, in advance of this Sunday’s Season 2 premiere. While the first season adapted the acclaimed 2013 Sony PlayStation game of the same title, the game’s sequel, 2020’s “The Last of Us Part II,” is so massive that creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann always planned to split its events into multiple seasons. In an interview about the 7-episode Season 2, Mazin said that he felt the series has “one or 2 more seasons” before reaching the end of “Part II.” According to him: “It’s getting harder to make, because every episode gets big.”
-Variety
★ Jennifer Lopez is set to return as the host of the 2025 American Music Awards. The superstar will emcee the show for the second time following her first stint in 2015. She’ll also perform at the ceremony. The show will air live from Las Vegas on Memorial Day, May 26, on CBS and stream on Paramount+. J-Lo is no stranger to the AMAs stage, having performed at the awards show 10 times. She’s also a 3-time AMA winner.
-TheWrap
★ Machine Gun Kelly isn’t sweating the small stuff. He shared his reaction to a headline from the satirical website The Onion that made a joke about his co-parenting dynamic with ex Megan Fox. The article’s joke headline read: “Megan Fox Confirms She and New Baby Will Co-Parent Machine Gun Kelly.” In response, the rapper/actor reposted the headline on Instagram Stories, and added 3 laughing emojis.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ed Sheeran – As he gets set to drop his forthcoming 8th album, he has let fans know his plan. Quote: “because the album is so broad, I didn’t want to just be like, ‘Here’s the single. Here’s the album,’ so there’s music coming every sort of 2, 3 weeks.” As for whether he’d consider playing the Super Bowl Halftime show, he feels he could “nail one song” as a guest artist.
• Lorde – finally has new music coming. She dropped a snippet of an unreleased song on TikTok Wednesday (her first post on that platform), while fans clamour for her highly anticipated 4th studio album. In the clip, she films herself walking through Washington Square Park in New York. She has also wiped her website and her IG account. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4z4h68pn
• Arcade Fire – has released the new song and video ‘Year of the Snake’. It’s from the group’s upcoming 7th studio album, and their first since 2022, “Pink Elephant”, out May 9. Notable is the fact that frontman Win Butler makes his debut on drums on the new song. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3nb6njkr
• Metallica – A teaser trailer has been released for “Metallica Saved My Life”, a new documentary film celebrating the bond longtime fans have with the band. In a statement, Metallica said: “You have the chance to view the film first with a sneak peek at theaters in most of our upcoming tour stops in North America.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/jvnbapdj
• Elton John, Chicago and Tracy Chapman – are among the artists whose recordings have been chosen by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry. John’s album “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, will be so-honored, as will Chicago’s debut “Chicago Transit Authority”, and Chapman’s self-titled debut. Also on the list for this year are Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like an Eagle” album, Celine Dion’s song ‘My Heart Will Go On’, and others.
• Jelly Roll – had a speaking gig this week at England’s Oxford University. Monday, he was given the Global Literacy Award as part of the World Literacy Summit. Tuesday, he was part of the keynote address, and Q&A session. Since getting his GED while incarcerated, he has become an advocate for both literacy and for those in the criminal justice system.
• Brett Young – Yesterday, he released the song ‘Drink with You’, from his upcoming album “2.0”, out this summer. It’ll include guest appearances by Lady A and George Birge, as well as a new version of his hit ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ with newcomer Hannah McFarland.
• Dolly Parton — The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has announced the new exhibition “Dolly Parton: Journey of a Seeker”. It will focus on turning points throughout Parton’s more than 60-year career where she overcame obstacles and ignored naysayers. The exhibit will be open from May 20 until September 2026.

NEW FOOD NEWS:
❑ Pizza Hut has released a new menu item that’s even more “out-of-the-box” than that time they sold tomato wine. It’s the first-ever Pizza Caviar. And instead of simply throwing caviar, which seems to be having a moment right now, onto a pizza, The Hut has reimagined the “caviar bump” altogether. Apparently, the Pizza Caviar…tastes like pepperoni. Instead of fish, the pearls have a bold, smoky pepperoni flavor, perfect for adorning any Pizza Hut menu items. The pearls are made from pepperoni-flavored water coated in gelatin-like agar-agar. But alas (or thankfully…) Pizza Hut’s new Pizza Caviar was only available yesterday at one New York City restaurant…at least for now. (Because nothing says elegant like gelatinous meat beads!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y2kx7wnr
❑ It’s one of the most-popular tastes of all time – so why not make a toothpaste out of it? That must have been what KFC engineers were thinking when they came up with the new fried chicken-flavored toothpaste. A KFC news release says the toothpaste flavor is “inspired by all of KFC’s 11 herbs and spices.” The fast-food chain says the “toothpaste is irresistible, coating your teeth in flavor before leaving your mouth feeling fresh and clean.” KFC has partnered with toothpaste manufacturer Hismile to unveil the new $13 dental hygiene product, available for a limited time. (I can’t wait for my wife to complain about how I’m squeezing the bucket of toothpaste wrong!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y95peuyu

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Nevada man who was arrested after 7 tigers were seized from his home claimed they were his “emotional support animals.” Cops raided Karl Mitchell’s home, and arrested him on suspicion of resisting arrest. He did not have a special conditions animal permit to own the animals, and had violated other rules, including “walking the tigers loose…off the property, in the desert,” and interacting with people, officials said. 71-year-old Mitchell told media he didn’t need permits because the tigers are his emotional support animals and the public wasn’t in danger. He also said he “rescued” the big cats from ‘Joe Exotic’, of Netflix’s “Tiger King” fame. (Makes sense. I, too, find comfort in the constant threat of being mauled!)
(***Caution: Preview for content***) ➢ A doctor in Australia has been reprimanded and slapped with a $10,000 fine — for snapping a photo of a coma patient’s penis, which featured a swastika tattoo, and sharing it in a WhatsApp group-chat. The tattooed patient required orthopedic surgery in 2019 after a pipe bomb exploded in his hands. He was placed in a medically induced coma while recovering in intensive care, when the surgeon noticed the hateful tattoo. He then “took matters into his own hands”, if you’ll pardon the pun, and shared a pic of the patient’s private part. (You know it’s bad when the swastika isn’t even the most questionable part of the story!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Many of today’s teens are putting off the rite of passage of getting their driver’s license. A 2020 study from the University of California Irvine Medical School revealed that nearly 40% of teens delayed getting their license by 1-2 years, and 30% delayed by more than 2 years. That continues a trend seen over the last 20 years: Between 2006-15, the number of high school seniors with a driver’s license dropped from 81% to 72%. Reasons given by teens for not getting licensed as soon as possible include the availability of rideshare apps, being “too busy”, financial concerns, and mental health issues. (They’re not driving because they’re ‘driven’ … by their moms!)

BS CHRONOMETER 04.11.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Dive Bar Day”. Definitions vary as to what a dive bar is, but the occasion’s founder (and a dive bar owner himself), says they “must be a tavern over 30 years old and have bad lighting and characters inside.” They’re generally considered to be dingy, working-class bars, although people from all social groups are welcome. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5x3p4jvr
• “Poutine Day”. The Quebecois dish of fries, cheese curds and gravy is the perfect marriage of salty, meaty flavor and texture, and definitely worthy of its own day. (Feel free to make your own ‘Vladimir Poutine’ joke here – unless you’re in Russia!)
• “Cheese Fondue Day”. It began with Swiss cheeses like Emmenthaler and Gruyère Swiss, but its options have expanded to incorporate a variety of cheeses and flavors to make endless, mouthwatering combinations.
• “Louie Louie Day”, the birthday of Richard Berry, the man who composed ‘Louie Louie’. He and his band, the Pharoahs, recorded the song in 1957 as a calypso doo-wop B-side to ‘You Are My Sunshine’ (and we still don’t know what the words are…)
• “Barbershop Quartet Day”, commemorating 1938 date when the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America was founded (…founded…FOUNDED!!!)
• “Pet Day”, sponsored by the Animal Miracle Network as a reason to ‘paws’ and consider the plight of the many animals in shelters awaiting a home. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2vu8vcev
• “Day of Silence”, a “student-led national event where people take a vow of silence to highlight the silencing and erasure of LGBTQ people at school.” LINK: https://www.glsen.org/dayofnosilence
• “World Parkinson’s Disease Day”, to boost awareness of the disorder and to spur new research and treatment innovations. The red tulip is the official flower of “World PD Day”.
• “Eight Track Tape Day”. The 8-track tape, originally called the “Stereo 8”, was created in 1964, and was made popular by the inclusion of players in Ford vehicles in 1965. 8-tracks were being phased out by 1982, but were still available through record clubs as late as 1988. (…and she’s buy-ing…the stairway…CLICK!!!!!! … to hea-vennn…)

SATURDAY:
• “Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day”. Almost anyone can make one, and almost everyone does it a bit differently. What’s your secret trick? Mine’s mayo…on the outside! (Are they missing a huge opportunity by not pairing this with “Tomato Soup Day”?)
• “Only Child Day”, for those among us who are fortunate enough to have never experienced an atomic wedgie from a sibling. (I’m an only child. And by that, I mean all my siblings are adults!)
• “Licorice Day”. The best kind? We say ‘zout’ (salt) from The Netherlands. A UK study says licorice is good for dental health. (It’s the anise that does it.) LINK: http://www.licoriceinternational.com
• “Walk on Your Wild Side Day”, a day to do something unpredictable. Go to work dressed like a gorilla, get a Master’s degree, something ‘they’ said you’d never do. (Or maybe actually work right up until quitting time?)
• “Record Store Day”, held every April and every Black Friday in November to “celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store”. A number of records are pressed specifically for Record Store Day, and are exclusively available at local shops. LINK: https://recordstoreday.com/
• “Drop Everything and Read Day”, to remind and encourage families to make reading together on a daily basis a priority. It’s celebrated on Beverly Cleary’s birthday, the author of “Ramona Quimby, Age 8”.
• “Take Your Parents to the Playground Day”. It coincides with “Children and Nature Awareness Month”, to call attention to the importance of providing opportunities for kids to experience regular play in outdoor settings. So, parents, get outside for some fun at the playground, at the park – or even in the backyard!
• “Wear a Star Day”, Created by The [R] Project, a non-profit group that helps give hope to parents and families that have experienced the loss of a child. Today, wear a star to memorialize the “little stars in heaven.”

SUNDAY:
• “Palm Sunday”, the beginning of Holy Week, taking place on the Sunday before Easter. It commemorates the Christian belief of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the last days of his life.
• “The Start of Passover”. Also called “Pesach”, it’s a major Jewish holiday and one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals. It celebrates the Exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. It technically began at sundown Saturday night, and runs through nightfall on April 20.
• “Scrabble Day”, honoring one of the world’s most popular games, on the anniversary of the 1899 birth of its inventor, Alfred Butts, a jobless architect who came up with the idea during the Great Depression of the 1930s. A few facts …
– Among the proposed names for early versions were ‘Lexiko’ and ‘Criss Cross Words’.
– After Scrabble was trademarked in 1948, it was manufactured by friends and family, who painstakingly stamped letters on wooden tiles one at a time. Rate of production: 12 games an hour.
– The game was just a fad with Butts’ friends until a Macy’s exec saw it being played at a resort in 1952 and the then-world’s largest department store soon began carrying it.
• “National Peach Cobbler Day”. A cobbler is a deep-dish fruit pie covered with a thick crust made from biscuit dough. (You had me at deep-dish. And at thick crust. And at biscuit dough.)
• “Plant Appreciation Day”. Today, consider giving live, potted plants as a gift, rather than cut flowers. You might also grow your own fruits & veggies to give away, or share seeds, plants or clippings from your garden. Show yourself, and others how important plants are. (After all, imagine a world without the trees that give us toilet paper!)
• “Thomas Jefferson Day”, honoring the birth of the third President of The United States, born on this date in 1743. Best-known as the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson was a stalwart of democracy.
• “Make Lunch Count Day”, Created by TGI Fridays in 2016, this aims to take the ‘boring’ out of lunch and get people away from their work and to restaurants for their midday meal. (Never take lunch for granted…but you can take it to go!)
