BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Prince’s longtime friend and collaborator Jimmy Jam has shed some light on the late star’s hip issues, which may have contributed to his demise. Reports are suggesting the “Purple Rain” hitmaker suffered an overdose of painkiller Percocet in the days before his death on Thursday, and some media outlets have speculated he might have been taking the drugs to help combat hip pain. But Jimmy can’t believe the stories suggesting Prince may have been dependent on pain pills: “He’s never really been a drug-taker of any sort. He has always lived a very clean lifestyle.”

★ Meantime, Kim Kardashian has responded as an old video of Prince kicking her off stage has gone viral. The awkward moment happened at a 2011 concert at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. Responding to the video’s re-emergence online, Kardashian has tweeted: “I will always remember this moment with one of my favorite artists! I was so star struck I froze! RIP Prince.” But her tweet has just set her up for more ridicule as many twitter users have pointed out that, rather than having a ‘special moment’ with Prince, he had unceremoniously booted her ample butt off.

★ Broadway veteran Betsy Wolfe has landed the coveted role of ‘Queen Elsa’ in the upcoming “Frozen” musical. The 33-year-old, who has appeared in New York productions of “Bullets Over Broadway” and “Everyday Rapture”, will reunite with songwriters Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who she teamed up with on “Up Here in San Diego, California” last year. Betsy will take on the role Idina Menzel voiced in the hit Disney film, meaning she gets to sing the anthem “Let It Go”. The production opens on Broadway in Spring 2018 after premiering in 2017 in Denver CO.

★ And legendary music producer Phil Spector has filed for divorce from his wife Rachelle Short, amid reports she’s spending all his money. The music mogul married Short in 2006 while in jail awaiting trial for the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson. After being found guilty, he was sentenced to 19 years-to-life. He’ll be 88 before he’s eligible for parole. In legal documents filed Friday, he alleges Short has been “spending like a mad woman”. Included on the list of her alleged extravagant purchases are plastic surgery, 2 homes for her mother, an Aston Martin, a Ferrari, and … an airplane. Spector’s net worth is (or was) around $35 million.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Beyoncé – Saturday night’s HBO special unveiled her 6th album, titled “Lemonade”. It became instantly available, but only on Tidal. The special consisted of films set to the new songs, split into chapters. “Lemonade”, like her self-titled 2013 record, is a ‘visual album’, and appears to tell the overall story of her and Jay Z’s relationship.
• Jason Aldean – After previously smashing attendance records set by Paul McCartney and Dave Matthews Band at Boston MA’s Fenway Park, he’s sold out his September 9th return to the home of the Red Sox in just 90 minutes on Friday. Kid Rock is also on the bill.
• Justin Bieber – “Love Yourself” has been in the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ top 10 for 22 weeks.
• Lady Antebellum –  Hillary Scott is the 2nd member to go the solo route, soon releasing “Love Remains”, a faith-based album under the moniker Hillary Scott & The Scott Family. Bandmate Charles Kelley released a solo disc earlier this year and has been touring behind it.
• P!nk – She’s the first performer announced for the May 22nd “Billboard Music Awards”, on which her new single “Just Like Fire” will make its television debut. The tune is from the soundtrack to the upcoming Disney movie “Alice Through the Looking Glass”, out May 27th.
• Prince – His death on Thursday means we may never get to hear his fascinating life story in his own inimitable words. Reports say he’d started work on a memoir just last month and had finished about 50 pages. It was tentatively titled “The Beautiful Ones”.
• Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger and ex Jerry Hall (now Mrs Rupert Murdoch) attended a wedding celebration for their son James Jagger and his wife Anoushka Sharma on Saturday. 200 guests attended the Cornwell Manor party in Chipping Norton UK. 30-year-old James is reported to have wed Anoushka in a low-key ceremony in upstate New York last September.

THE CLUB FOR FAILURES:
Back in 1976, Brit journalist Stephen Pile founded the ‘Not Terribly Good Club’ to celebrate those who shoot for the stars and fall flat on their faces. At meetings, members would discuss and show off their inability to do things. But the rules were absolute: no success. Over the next few years, Pile collected some of his favorite tales of failure and published them as “The Book of Heroic Failures: The Handbook Of the Not Terribly Good Club” (still in print). Unfortunately, Pile included a ‘Not Terribly Good Club’ membership form in the back pages. As the book’s popularity grew, so did the club … thus violating another of its bylaws. In the face of such embarrassing success, Pile had no choice but to disband the organization. (But we can all still belong … just reach for the bottom!)

THE YEAR OF VR:
More than 9 million VR (Virtual Reality) headsets are going to be shipped in 2016, according to analyst firm IDC, far more than the 350,000 that retailed last year. Some of the growth will be down to the first consumer-ready versions reaching customers. So-called ‘tethered’ headsets work with a PC or a game console that pipes images to their display. These are likely to be popular with gamers. However, most numerous will be ‘screenless’ systems (such as Samsung’s Gear VR) that use smartphones as their main display. These require a smartphone capable of handling the high-quality video used for VR. (In other words, your phone is about to become totally outmoded … again.)

According to the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign currently underway, the device features 6 legs and 2 antennae on its head, which house the light, distance, stereo sound, and touch sensors. The battery-powered toy, which weighs in at less than a half-pound, actually learns from playing, can be controlled by voice, and can exhibit emotional responses to certain scenarios – like trembling or glancing from side-to-side – just like a real pet. The $59-device also features pre-programed controls as well as several sensor modules that let more seasoned builders upgrade their ‘Antbo’ to perform more complex tasks.
