BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Sarah Jessica Parker is being sued by a prominent jewelry designer who claims the two entered into a multi-million dollar deal for a new line of jewelry, but Parker failed to live up to her end of the deal. Kat Florence says they agreed to an endorsement deal in 2015 for Parker to promote and assist in the advertising of a new line of jewelry. She claims that Parker has refused to wear any of the jewelry outside of the catalog photos, and hasn’t even bothered to follow Florence on Instagram. She is seeking unspecified damages.
(I, too, would like to sue SJP for not following me on Instagram…)
-TheBlast
★ Rose McGowan is sharing more shocking revelations in regards to the Harvey Weinstein scandal. In a new interview, McGowan claims that the disgraced Hollywood producer has attempted to contact her within the last month. She says she has received texts and “things like that” from someone who “worked for him…on his behalf.” McGowan says she has no idea how he got her number.
-MSN
★ Charlize Theron opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about gaining almost 50 lbs for her role in “Tully”. In the movie, Theron, plays an overwhelmed mother-of-two. She said that losing the weight afterwards was “brutal.” Theron said that her bad diet meant she was “tired all the time,”and she “wasn’t prepared for how that processed food would affect your mood.” She says that led to her dealing with depression for the first time in her life.

★ “Night Court” star Harry Anderson died after suffering a stroke, according to his newly-released death certificate. The 65 year-old died at his home in Asheville, North Carolina on April 16. His wife told paramedics that he had suffered a series of strokes earlier this year. Influenza and heart disease were listed as contributing causes.

★ Tom Cruise has received the Pioneer of the Year award from the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation — the first actor to be so honored. The pioneer of the year award is given to a member of the motion picture community to honor professional leadership, service, and commitment to philanthropy.
-PageSix
★ Patton Oswalt can do a small victory dance in his late wife’s honor because her posthumously released crime book just might’ve led to the arrest of an alleged serial killer and rapist – known as the Golden State Killer. Patton’s late wife Michelle McNamara referred to Joseph DeAngelo as the main suspect in the case in her book, “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark.” Patton helped finish the book with Michelle’s co-author after she died in 2016. As Patton put it after hearing about the arrest, “You got him, Michelle.” Reporters covering the case think that the book started a new push to make an arrest in the cold case.

This was not a happy situation for us in terms of the logistics of a functioning band. To that purpose, we made a decision that we could not go on with him.” The story is that the main bone of contention was regarding when to begin rehearsals for their tour….this June…or November…2019. SHOEING GUM:
The city of Amsterdam was getting so sick of the amount of gum left on the streets by careless chewers that three companies banded together to do something about it. And the ‘Gumshoe’ was born. Running shoes made from recycled chewing gum. That’s right, the shoe’s sole is made of recycled rubber, and that rubber is made up of 20% gum. Someone figured out that roughly 3.3 million pounds of gum make it onto Amsterdam pavements each year, and that costs the city millions of dollars to clean up. This project uses around 2.2 pounds (1 kg) of gum for every four pairs of shoes. A spokesperson for the company says that they even smell like gum. The shoes will be available in June for about $232 and will come in bubblegum pink or black and red. The recycled gum used in the shoes was scraped from the streets in Amsterdam.
(Scraping gum from the streets. Sounds like fun. Where do I apply?)
(And if you step in gum with these shoes on, does that make the gum part of your shoe, or does it make your shoe part of the gum?)
(And when the first kid wears a pair to school, his teacher is going to ask if he brought enough for everyone!)

AN OPEN MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE:
Most of us like to believe we have an open mind. And I’m sure somewhere, someone actually does. But science says that our brains are wired to hold onto our first impressions for dear life. ‘Confirmation bias’ is what causes us to seek out and embrace information that confirms our preexisting beliefs and ignore the rest, rather than weigh each piece of evidence equally. A study in Psychological Medicine found that when psychiatrists were asked to make a preliminary diagnosis of a patient and then perform an online search, those who were asked to search for information to confirm their decision made the wrong final diagnosis 70% of the time. But only 27% of those who were objectively looking for information to prove it wrong wound up with the wrong final diagnosis. The good news is that once you know this bias is likely to happen, you can take steps to avoid it. One way to counteract confirmation bias is to look for evidence that disproves your beliefs.
(And that’s why your political Facebook posts don’t convince anybody of a stinkin’ thing!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .

• “Tell a Story Day”, If you don’t have children to tell a story to, a friend will probably loan you theirs for a couple of hours. Gladly.

• “Babe Ruth Day”, This date in 1947, “The Bambino” returned to “The House that Ruth Built” to be honored after a legendary baseball career. AKA: ‘The Sultan of Swat’, ‘The Behemoth of Bust’, ‘The Caliph of Clout’, ‘The Babe’.

• “Morse Code Day”, in case you want to embrace a technology that has pretty much disappeared. Dash-dot-dot-dot … dot-dot-dash …

• “Freedom Day”, a South African public holiday celebrating the country’s first post-apartheid elections held on this day in 1994.

• “Little Pampered Dog Day”, created in order to celebrate owners who truly care for and love their dogs. It’s also to bring attention to the fact that not all dogs are so lucky.

• “Hairball Awareness Day”, an annual observance on the last Friday of April. A few facts …
✓ The usual cat hairball isn’t round but tubular, approximately 1cm (a half-inch) in diameter and about 4 cm (1.5 in) long (and attracts feet in the dark)
✓ Hairballs don’t discriminate. Many animals aside from cats (ie: cows, goats, and other cud-chewers) are susceptible to indigestible gunk accumulating in their stomachs. (None makes that sound like a cat, though…)
✓ The official name for what we call a hairball is a ‘bezoar’.
✓ They needn’t be made of hair. They can also form in people from nondigestible food parts, like celery, grape skins, sauerkraut; or from chewing gum; and even amassed pill capsules.
✓ In the Middle Ages, hairballs were cherished objects, set with gold and jewelry.
✓ The carbonic and phosphoric acid in Coke can dissolve some bezoars made of food parts. But serious cases require surgery. (The problem is getting my cat to have a Coke!)

SATURDAY-
• “Blueberry Pie Day”, The official state dessert of Maine, one of the healthiest fruits on the market, inhibits cancer development and helps prevent urinary tract disease

• “Poetry Reading Day”, a day to ‘read some great poetry, the world better to see.’ (“There once was a girl from St John’s …”)

• “National Superhero Day”, a day to honor superheroes, both real and fictional. Batman, Superman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Hulk and Spiderman are just some of the superheroes whose names we recognize. Even though they are fictional, these superheroes are great role models for our children (Deadpool? Not so much…)

SUNDAY-
• “International Dance Day”, introduced in 1982 by UNESCO to increase awareness of the importance of dance, as well as to persuade governments worldwide to provide a proper place for dance in all systems of education, from primary on up.

• “Zipper Day” It was in 1851 that Elias Howe, the inventor of the sewing machine, received a patent for an “Automatic, Continuous Clothing Closure.” He never marketed it, and missed the recognition he may otherwise have received. (You might say he saw his invention FLY under the radar!)

• “Shrimp Scampi Day”, celebrating the tasty dish that mixes sautéed shrimp with garlic, shallots, parsley and oregano; drenches it all with wine & brandy, then lights ‘er up. Bring it on!
