BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Yellowstone” is ending after months of turmoil behind the scenes. The New York Post says the Paramount Network drama’s offscreen drama has ultimately led to the show’s demise at the end of Season 5, which is currently in production. One source is quoted as saying: “Hopefully Kevin (Costner) will return for the remaining episodes, if everyone works together, but it looks like Yellowstone will end after this season.” As multiple reports have noted, Yellowstone’s trouble stems from a disagreement between Costner and the show’s creative mastermind Taylor Sheridan. Costner was allegedly not happy with his shooting schedule, and Sheridan is said to have become tired of the actor holding up production.

★ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” has set its guests for its final broadcast. Harry Styles and Will Ferrell will join Corden for the show’s last episode on April 27, wrapping up the CBS late-night series’ 8-year run. Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Tom Cruise, Josh Gad, Jennifer Garner, Brett Goldstein, Kate Hudson, Allison Janney, the Kardashian family, Mila Kunis, Seth Meyers, Billy Porter and Sharon Stone are among the show’s guests joining Corden in the final 2 weeks. During one of Styles’ early appearances on the show in 2015, he lost a game of “Tattoo Roulette” and received a tattoo of the show’s logo on his arm.

★ Kelly Ripa started a new “Live” journey with her husband, Mark Consuelos, on Monday. But, during an interview with Variety, Ripa revealed that she considered retiring from the show prior to Ryan Seacrest’s decision to join in 2017. Why? Ripa, who has been a part of Live since 2001, expressed that she wasn’t sure whether she should continue, considering how executives treated her (specifically when previous co-host Michael Strahan was poached for a position on “Good Morning America” without her knowing). She said about her husband joining as a co-host: “It’s definitely breathed new life into me.”

★ Writers for television, movies and streaming shows have voted overwhelmingly to go on strike if no labor deal is reached before a May 1 deadline. 97.9% of participating union members voted to approve a potential strike. If a strike happens, it would be the first in the industry since 2007, and it would bring production on many shows and films to a halt. The 2007 strike lasted 100 days. The Writers Guild of America, which represents the writers, says it needs to make substantial changes to the way writers are compensated because of the shift to streaming services.

★ Jamie Foxx is still in a Georgia hospital following the ‘medical complication’ revealed by his daughter Corinne Foxx last week. CNN reports a source as saying: “They are running tests and still trying to figure out what exactly happened.” Foxx has been in Atlanta filming his upcoming Netflix movie “Back in Action”, alongside Cameron Diaz and Glenn Close. The incident did not happen while Foxx was on set, and he was not transported to the hospital by emergency vehicle.

★ Jonathan Majors has reportedly been dropped by talent manager Entertainment 360 following a recent “domestic dispute” that saw him charged with assault and harassment. Sources say Majors’ departure from the agency “was due to issues surrounding the actor’s personal behavior.” This comes after PR firm The Lede Company also parted ways with the “Creed III” actor in the last month. Majors and fashion house Valentino have “mutually agreed” that he will not be attending this year’s Met Gala as one of its guests, as well. He is also currently starring in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Katy Perry – has revealed that she has a new album and tour on the way, after her “Play” Las Vegas residency, which ends Nov. 4. Quote: “The last time I was on tour was in 2018…I’m due to go out and see the kids that couldn’t make it to Vegas.”
• Bad Bunny – Romance rumors about him and Kendall Jenner won’t be dying down any time soon, after they were spotted getting cozy at Coachella. The 2 were seen together numerous times throughout the weekend, and Bunny was filmed holding Jenner from behind as the couple swayed to Frank Ocean’s set.
• Soundgarden – has settled its yearslong legal dispute with the Chris Cornell estate. Both parties said the “amicable out of court resolution…will allow Soundgarden fans around the world to hear the final songs that the band and Chris were working on.” Cornell reportedly recorded 7 songs at his studio in 2017. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5amcjdx8
• Eric Clapton — has announced the lineup for the 2023 Crossroads Guitar Festival, benefiting the Crossroads Center. This year’s event, set for Sept. 23 and 24 at Crypto.com Arena in LA, will include ZZ Top, Santana, Robbie Robertson, Stephen Stills, Sheryl Crow, Buddy Guy, Gary Clark Jr., Joe Bonamassa, Jakob Dylan, Vince Gill. H.E.R., Jimmie Vaughan and more. Slowhand will also perform both nights.
• Metallica — Lars Ulrich told Bill Mahar on his podcast that the group were told not to make eye contact with Mick Jagger when they supported The Rolling Stones in 2005. He says that pretty much dashed his dreams of spending “my whole time…in Keith Richards’ hotel room…at one of those legendary parties ’til 9 o’clock in the morning.”
• Nashville – The cast of the TV show’s “Reunion Tour” has been announced. It will include Clare Bowen, Charles Esten, Jonathan Jackson and Sam Palladio, who will perform classic songs from the series along with their original material. After a 5-year hiatus from touring in the US, the singing actors will play Sept. shows in Nashville and Chicago before a run in the UK. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4nhh79nf
• Cody Johnson – has announced a new double-album. He says the overall theme of the 24-song collection “Cody Johnson: Leather” is “fun”. His 2021 album “Human” was also a 2-disc project.
• Kane Brown – proved the show must go on — even if you’re singing in a higher register than you intended – when he was hit in the groin by a boot thrown from the audience while performing in Witchita KS. Brown went to the ground in pain, but kept on singing, saying to the crowd at the end of the song: “Gol-ly! Hit me with the heel! I felt that!” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p92ty3d

SHOOTING THE BULL

BA DA BA BA BUNS:
This has been getting a fair bit of attention since it was announced on Monday, but I’d be totally off-brand if I didn’t chime in on it. McDonald’s is making improvements to its “big-5” burgers – the Big Mac, McDouble burger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, and hamburger. The fast-food giant says the McUpgrades include “softer, pillowy” golden-brown buns, gooier cheese, and a “juicier, caramelized” taste, as onions will be placed on patties while they’re still on the grill. In addition, the Big Mac will feature more of its signature sauce. The updated recipe is currently being offered on the US West Coast in places like LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Seattle, among other cities. By early 2024, the upgrades will be available nationwide. The changes were first tested in Canada, Australia and Belgium, where McDonald’s said they received “rave reviews.”
(I don’t suppose it really matters which burgers have been improved, because it’s pretty much a crap-shoot which one you’ll get in the drive-thru anyway…!)
(What a well-run company. That’s yet another smart move by McDonald’s C-I-E-I-O!)

WORKING WOMEN:
Many women probably won’t be surprised to hear this, but a new Pew Research Center study finds that when wives earn about the same as their husbands or more, they still spend more time on housework and child care. What’s more, their husbands spend more time on paid work and leisure. Pew noted: “Even as financial contributions have become more equal in marriages; the way couples divide their time between paid work and home life remains unbalanced.” Husbands in these marriages were found to spend about 3½ hours more per week on leisure activities than wives do. The wives in these marriages spend roughly 2 hours more per week on caregiving than husbands do and about 2½ hours more on housework. The study found that in 29% of heterosexual marriages today, women and men earn about the same (roughly US $60,000 each). In 55% of opposite-sex marriages, men are the primary or sole breadwinners, earning a median of $96,000, and in 16% of marriages, the wives out-earn their husbands as the primary or sole breadwinner, earning a median of $88,000.
(Sorry, honey…but when I said I’d do anything for you, I didn’t mean I’d actually do stuff around the house…!)
(I suppose it points at how shallow a person I am when I say that my first reaction to this story was: “Where can I find one of these women??!!??”)

NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO INCOME TAX SEASON:
How much do you love this idea? Mosquito season ALL YEAR ’ROUND! Scientists are saying that’s a possibility, thanks to the artificial light in today’s well-lit cities. It seems that these days, mosquitoes are waking up sooner from their winter slumber, and that could be a major health issue if they’re carrying diseases like the West Nile virus. A new study from Ohio State University found that the lights we use every day in our homes and cities are disrupting mosquito behavior. And while the changes suggest mosquitoes may not survive all they way to winter if they’re still active, it also implies that they’re biting much longer into the fall.
(Correction: The study implies that these days, mosquitos suck more than ever!)
(Well, that’s definitely a buzz-killer. Or rather, the exact opposite…!)

TOP 5 EASY WAYS TO RELIEVE STRESS:
This is “Stress Awareness Day”, and with that in mind, we present (from the mouths of experts) these methods of alleviating stress, which can wreak havoc on both your mental and physical health…
1. Be Active: This is at the top of most experts’ lists, and it can involve anything from yoga to a formal workout to simply taking walks to get into nature. Whatever your choice, carving out time for physical activity benefits both your mind and body. (Does running around all day avoiding work count?)
2. Meditation & Deep Breathing Exercises: These go hand in hand, as many forms of meditation require that a person focus on their breathing. Research confirms the calming effects of meditation and deep breathing exercises. (You expect me to do 2 things at once? Stressful!)
3. Connect With Others: Keeping to yourself can be detrimental to your health. It’s best to connect with others, whether to get your thoughts into the open or just to vent. Having a support structure of friends and family is one of the easiest ways to alleviate stress. (On the other hand, have you ever met MY family?)
4. Healthy Diet: Healthy food is the answer to many of life’s ailments. With the prevalence of fast food, maintaining a healthy diet isn’t easy. But it’s true: what a person eats affects both the mind and body. (You are what you eat. Funny, though, I don’t remember eating a big disappointment…!)
5. Laugh More Often: Tons of research has shown that laughing benefits your health. Even if you’re not able to laugh with family or friends, you can always throw on that funny flick that gets you every time…and laugh the stress away. (Or do what I do…tell someone how much money I make!)
(What’s your sure-fire stress-buster?)

DID YOU KNOW?
A Louisiana woman who has set the Guinness world record for the largest afro 3 times in the last 13 years says she keeps breaking the mark to exhibit the beauty of natural hair. 47-year-old Aevin Dugas began growing her trademark afro hairdo in 1999. Its circumference in 2010 measured 4ft 4in (132cm), which gave her the Guinness world record for largest afro for the first time. Last September, Guinness verified her current mark, a circumference of 5ft 5in (165cm). LINK: https://tinyurl.com/48xvd5tz

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day” (in the US), celebrated the day after income taxes are due. The presumption is that people were working late the night before to finish their taxes, and by not getting out of their PJs, they are able to sleep a bit later.
• “Stress Awareness Day”, also celebrated the day after taxes are due in the US. Today, we focus on this leading health problem and raise awareness about its causes and cures. (***See “Top 5 Easy Ways To Relieve Stress”, above***) LINK: https://www.holidayinsights.com/other/stressawareness.htm
• “Amaretto Day”, Amaretto in Italian means “a little bitter” and is made from bitter almonds or apricot kernels, or both. The nuts are infused in pure alcohol or brandy, resulting in a strong almond flavor.
• “Garlic Day”, saluting the ‘stinking rose’ that has been cultivated as long as history has been recorded. It’s said that if you rub a clove of garlic on your partner’s feet at night, you’ll taste it on their breath the next morning. (Why you’d actually want to do this, I’m not sure…)
• “Hanging Out Day”, an initiative of Project Laundry List, promoting energy conservation by using a clothesline instead of an electric dryer. (And while you’re at it, hang those garlic-y feet outside for a while, willya?) LINK: http://www.laundrylist.org
• “Bicycle Day”, commemorating the date that Dr. Albert Hofmann first tripped on LSD and bicycled home from his lab in Basel, Switzerland in 1943. During his ride, he experienced the psychedelic effects of LSD, the first acid trip in history. (A bicycle ‘trip’?)
• “Humorous Day”, a day to find the humor in any situation that happens to be thrown your way, and to remember to see the bright side and to recognize that most things are really not as important as they may at first seem. (My wife and I share the same sense of humor. We have to, because she doesn’t have one of her own…)
