Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

★ Jason Momoa is about to get very pixelated. The “Aquaman” and “Dune” star is in “final” negotiations to star in a live-action movie based on the popular video game “Minecraft”, according to reports. Minecraft, first launched in 2011, is a sandbox video game with a distinct blocky design in which players can explore and craft on a virtually endless terrain of open-world space. “Dune” producer Mary Parent and Roy Lee are set to direct the movie.

★ After bidding farewell to Daniel Craig’s ‘007’ last year in “No Time To Die”, the question remains: Who will be the next “James Bond”? Tom Hardy has consistently dominated the conversation, with the “Venom” star often named as the bookies’ favorite to play the next 007. However, it seems he has now been replaced by a fresher-faced candidate. According to one oddsmaker, “Bridgerton” star Regé-Jean Page is currently the favorite to play the next James Bond, with odds coming in at 9/4. Hardy is fourth, with odds of 8/1. Ahead of him are Henry Cavill and Aidan Turner, in 2nd and 3rd places.

★ Jennifer Grey is opening up about her infamous decision to get a nose job at the height of her career in the early ’90s, and how she felt she wasn’t a “natural match” for her “Dirty Dancing” co-star Patrick Swayze. The 62-year-old would go on to have 2 rhinoplasty surgeries after finding worldwide recognition in the 1987 box-office smash where she played ‘Baby’ — but her new look left her unrecognizable, causing her to, in her words, lose her identity and her career overnight. Promoting her new memoir, “Out of the Corner”, Grey also said that she and Swayze had “zero chemistry” together, “and the fact that we needed to be a natural match created a tension.”

★ The teaser trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Love and Thunder” has officially arrived, and it looks awesome. In the 4th Thor film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ll see the return of Chris Hemsworth’s hero as he appears to be on a journey of self-discovery. As Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine blasts in the background, he says: “I want to choose my own path.” Love and Thunder will see the return of fan favorite Natalie Portman as ‘Jane’, for the first time since “Thor: The Dark World”. Director Taika Waititi has said the movie, which is a direct sequel to “Thor: Ragnarok”, will use elements from the Mighty Thor comic book, in which Jane takes on the powers of the God of Thunder. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Kendrick Lamar — After five years, he’s finally back. The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper has announced he’ll drop the album “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” on May 13. At the bottom of his announcement, he wrote: “Appreciate Your Patience.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/547e65ka
• Taylor Swift – has had a millipede named after her. A team of Virginia Tech scientists chose to name the new species found in the Appalachian Mountains ‘Nannaria swiftae’ “to thank her for her music”. It is described as a “twisted-claw millipede”. (We’re sure she is overwhelmed…)
• Eminem – Snoop Dogg says 50 Cent’s special appearance at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show was thanks to Eminem. In an interview, Snoop said that Em told Jay-Z: “I can’t do it if I can’t bring 50 with me.” Eminem and 50 are long-time friends.
• 3rd Secret – The grunge supergroup has shared a live performance of their song ‘I Choose Me’ on YouTube. The band, comprised of legendary musicians including Krist Novoselic, Jennifer Johnson, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Jillian Raye, released their self-titled album last week. LINK: https://youtu.be/_6y2sWstXu4
• Liam Gallagher – The former Oasis frontman said that while there are a couple of ballads that made their way onto his solo album “C’Mon You Know (out May 27), it is a “mad” rock ‘n’ roll record overall. But he says he has lots of songs “a bit more chilled like Simon and Garfunkel” which could someday go towards an album of love songs.
• Headpins – The 80s Canadian rockers have announced new frontwoman Rosa Laricchiuta. The Montreal native has been lead vocalist for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra for the past 5 years. LINK: https://youtu.be/dOQDk2b_TD0
• Gabby Barrett — got her start as a third-place finalist on American Idol in 2018, and now she’ll return to the show as a mentor on the episode airing April 24. Other contestants who returned as mentors include: Jimmie Allen, Lauren Alaina and Chayce Beckham.
• Darius Rucker – has more than doubled the number of shows on his schedule for summer. His US & Canada tour begins June 6 with the 13th annual “Darius & Friends” benefit at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. From there, he has 22 more shows through Sept. 10, with openers including Elvie Shane, Tyler Booth, Larry Fleet, Tenille Townes, Caylee Hammack and Ryan Hurd and Jameson Rodgers.
• Ryan Griffin – May 6, he’ll drop the EP ‘Slow Down Sunrise’. Not only will it contain his hit ‘Salt, Lime & Tequila’, it will also feature an acoustic version of the song, plus 4 other tunes.

SHOOTING THE BULL

SMART-AZ:
All you hear about these days is that prices are up. Well, that and supply-chain issues. And climate change, but I digress. While prices for just about everything have increased across the board, there remains one notable exception: AriZona Iced Tea. The company’s 23-ounce core product, nicknamed “Big-AZ”, is still only 99 cents in the US, and it’s been that way for 30 years. Company founder Don Vultaggio recently said that he’ still “committed to that 99-cent price…Consumers don’t need another price increase from a guy like me.” Yes, his company is making less money per can, but he sells a billion cans per year in a crowded market where rival brands cost roughly twice the price.
(Yeah, but to take advantage of it, you have to drink iced tea!)
(Please take note, Mercedes-makers!)
(***Ask listeners to name other products that they’ve been pleasantly surprised to see the price has remained unchanged – or decreased***)

SCIENTISTS SAY:
➢ A 4-day school week results in poorer grades, according to research by a team at Oregon State University. They found that high schoolers participating in a 4-day school week performed worse on a series of standardized math tests than their peers sticking to a typical 5-day schedule. Interestingly, scores dropped even more among those attending non-rural schools, but it only seemed to impact math grades. Reading scores were generally unaffected. (We just want to know why high school kids don’t already know how to read!)
➢ We tend to shout during video calls when the video gets fuzzy because it’s the digital version of turning down the radio to see better when driving. Researchers from Radboud University in the Netherlands found that people do talk louder when their Zoom video calls get blurry, and they’re also likely to make more exaggerated gestures to compensate for the poor video quality. The team explains that using gestures is a natural human response to make sure you’re being heard. (Which also explains some of the gestures I’ve seen (***co-host***) make while driving!)

A FEW MORE WORDS ABOUT WORDLE:
In spite of the fact that a new survey discovered that 1 in 6 Wordle players like to complete their daily puzzle while sitting on the toilet, it remains a sensation. So, naturally, enterprising game mavens have concocted multiple spinoffs to cash in on its popularity. These offshoot brainteasers range from the gourmand-themed guessing game “Foodle” to the NFL-inspired Wordle spinoff “Weddle”. Here are some other recent imposters in the world of Wordle:
➠ Moviedle: The “Daily Guess That Movie” game is similar to Wordle, except players try to guess movie titles from 1-second movie clips. (Catchy name, huh?)
➠ Framed:  This one also challenges players to guess movie titles, but from screenshots instead of videos.
➠ Byrdle:  It satirizes Wordle’s often-obscure answers by accepting only Renaissance words, and other excruciating niche terminology.
➠ Nerdle:  For mathletes, players are challenged to find a daily sum by creating a logical equation of multiplication, subtraction, division and/or addition in 6 or less attempts.
➠ Worldle:  If global geography is your thing, this is for you. Guess the nation from the outline of its border.
➠ Lewdle:  Yup, it’s a profane puzzle that only accepts words so offensive they’d get you kicked out of George Carlin’s house.
(I’m working on a similar game, where you identify neighborhood dogs by what they’ve left behind on your lawn all winter. Is “Turdle” taken?)

DID YOU KNOW?
A Florida man has set the Guinness World Record for the ‘most cinema productions attended for the same film’, after watching “Spider-Man: No Way Home” 292 times IN THEATERS. Ramiro Alanis bought multiple tickets to the movie starting on opening night Dec. 16. To qualify for the record, he couldn’t participate in any other activity during the screening, or even leave for a bathroom break until the credits finished. He also had to provide a ticket stub and written statement from a theater employee proving he had obeyed the rules. While he doesn’t have an official count, Alanis estimates that he spent around $3,400 in movie tickets to set the record.

BS CHRONOMETER 04.20.22

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “420” or “Pot Smokers Day”, the unofficial holiday of potheads. A few facts, man:
☞ ‘Four-twenty’ became an emblematic number for dopers in the 1970s. It comes from 4:20 pm, the secret ‘burn time’ originated by a group of pot-smoking students at California’s San Rafael High School in 1971.
☞ Marijuana is by far the world’s most lucrative cash crop. It is also #1 based on value per square km, followed by coca (the plant used to make cocaine), and opium poppy. Non-drug related crops, like potatoes, vegetables, and wheat, fall far behind.
☞ More than 1 person every minute is arrested for marijuana possession in the US. (***See ‘Today’s Firsts’, below***)
• “Lima Bean Respect Day”, encouraging us to recognize the protein power offered by the tasteless, mealy morsel that most of us avoid at all costs. (You have to admit, Lima Bean Day has some pretty tough competition, with it also being 420 and all…)
• “Look-Alike Day”, for people who are constantly mistaken for rich and famous celebrities to have some recognition of their own. (So, what famous person do people say YOU look like?)
• “Volunteer Recognition Day”, honoring the legions of people who dedicate themselves to causes and helping others, thereby making both big and small differences in the lives of millions worldwide.
• “Cheddar Fries Day”, who can resist crispy, golden French fries topped with cheddar cheese? Add some chives, bacon or jalapenos, and you have a culinary delight that will satisfy even the most discerning taste buds (The perfect snack for “420”, or am I overdoing it just a bit?)
