BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ John Krasinski’s at-home talk-show “Some Good News” is bringing some joy to healthcare workers. He surprised a group of doctors and nurses from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with a trip to Fenway Park and a Zoom-visit from former Red Sox star player David Ortiz on Sunday’s episode. The group had the baseball field all to themselves as the jumbotron played a video feed of famous Bostonians clapping for them, including Ortiz, Mayor Marty Walsh, Governor Charlie Baker, and several more Red Sox players.

★ The coronavirus pandemic may have pumped the brakes on a lot of movie productions, but James Gunn, the director of DC Comics’ upcoming “Suicide Squad” reboot and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, says his films will be unaffected. Gunn was taking fan questions on his Twitter account and said that the Aug. 6, 2021, release date for The Suicide Squad is not in jeopardy because shooting has wrapped and they had already “set up editing from our homes before quarantine.”

★ Kaley Cuoco has introduced two new additions to her family — piglets Leeroy and Wilbur. Cuoco says she was “forced” to take the leap and move in with her husband of more than a year, Karl Cook, due to the coronavirus pandemic. She took to Instagram to debut her new pets, writing: “I got the best quarantine surprise today! … My (heart) can barely handle it. Anything 4 legged is always welcome at our ranch!”

★ Katy Perry spoke directly to her fans on Sunday, going live on Facebook from her car while wearing an Easter Bunny costume minutes ahead of the new episode of “American Idol”. When asked how the current season would be completed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, she said: “I know that we’re going to get really creative and you’ll just have to be tuning into that creativity that we are probably going to create from our individual homes.” “It’s unclear when new American Idol episodes will be filmed.

• Miley Cyrus – is rumored to be making a rock album. An ‘insider’ told The Sun newspaper that she is poised to ditch her pop roots in order to adopt a dramatically new sound, with her divorce from Liam Hemsworth serving as a major influence. The new album will include a collaboration with Blink-182.
• Cardi B — has issued a rallying call to her 11 million followers on Twitter, saying that although she too is frustrated by the pandemic situation, it’s important to be disciplined. She wrote: “Target and Walmart are open and they are consider(ed) “essential” I love my high end clothes but target Tshirts and tights will do! Stop crying and stay home!”
• Pitbull — has released a song of hope amidst the coronavirus pandemic. In ‘I Believe That We Will Win’ he raps about his belief that ”we will face everything and rise”. He also wants fans to film themselves dancing for the music video, with “proceeds…going to various charities.”
• Pharrell – His 2013 hit ‘Happy’ has been names the most-played song of the 2010s on UK radio and TV. Adele’s ‘Rolling in The Deep’ came in at number two, and ‘Moves Like Jagger’ by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera is number three.
• REO Speedwagon – Four of their songs have appeared on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart after the group appeared in Netflix’s drama “Ozark”. ‘Keep on Loving You’ is at #10, ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’ clocks in at #13, ‘Time for Me to Fly’ is at No. 15, and ‘Take It on The Run’ at #16. The band’s 1988 compilation album “The Hits”, has entered Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart at #49.
• Ratt — have come “out of the cellar” (pardon the pun) for a new Geico commercial. In it, a couple discuss all of the good qualities of their new home, but the man admits: “We do have a rat problem.” The scene then cuts to Ratt performing the hit ‘Round and Round’ in different areas around the house. (Good thing they have Geico!)
• Brett Eldredge – On Monday, he tweeted: “Ok ok, I’ll spill the goods, the world premiere of my new single ‘Gabrielle’ is this Friday. I hope it brings you some happiness.” It will be his first new song since hitting #1 hit with ‘Love Someone’ in 2018.
• Old Dominion – Over the past few weeks, they have been posting unreleased songs on Instagram and explaining why they didn’t make the final cut. On Friday, the band posted a snippet of a heart-wrenching breakup ballad called ‘Goes Without Sayin’.
PROMISING THE MOON:
Here’s an interesting way to spend some of that spare time that your kids suddenly find at their disposal: NASA and the International Space Station National Lab have developed a range of programs and activities for children who are stuck at home these days – including a training program to become an astronaut. The free educational activities were created to help students from kindergarten through 12th grade explore subjects such as health, robotics, maths and life sciences. Kids can also join projects, like combing through images to search for new planets and can even help choose which plant astronauts will next grow in space. There are also training programs in hovercraft building and rocket launching.
(We checked it out. And they aren’t the first to tell me that my kid’s no rocket scientist!)
(Why not take the astronaut course? My kids are already confined to limited space – with limited toilet paper!)
(I hate to disappoint the conspiracy theorists, but there is no course on faking a moon landing!)

DON’T CLEAN YOUR GREENS:
Food Safety experts are advising against washing your produce in soapy water to guard against the novel coronavirus. Even though it’s true that soap is effective in preventing the spread of the virus, consuming soap can cause problems like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and other forms of gastrointestinal distress (if there are indeed others, I don’t want to know what they are!). Not only are those unpleasant, but they mimic some of the symptoms of COVID-19, and could send you to the hospital, placing undue stress on our already-overburdened health care workers and facilities. Washing produce with soap can also impact its flavor. Instead, the USFDA suggests simply rubbing your produce while rinsing with running water. For firm produce like melons, cucumbers, carrots and avocados, you can also use a clean scrubbing brush. And what temperature water should we use? Just like hand washing, many people rinse their produce with warm or hot water in hopes that it will kill the virus, but killing any virus or bacteria would require water so hot that it would actually cook or damage your produce and burn your hands, so cool water should be used.
(Oh, and now more than ever – don’t sample the apples while you’re still at the store!)
(I’ll continue to soak my lemon slices in alcohol, thank you!)
(Yeah, I’m just buying canned everything until this is over…)

ARMCHAIR PSYCHOLOGY:
With much of the world currently in “lockdown mode”, many of us are joking that our lives are so boring that we “haven’t noticed anything different” or “I’ve been training for this moment my whole life”. And it’s no surprise that psychology experts are saying that those with introverted personalities are probably having an easier time adjusting to social distancing than an extrovert might. But looking a little deeper, other aspects of our personalities may also shape our coping during isolation. See where you spot yourself in the remaining four traits in the Big Five personality model:
☞ Conscientiousness: Those who are more organized, less distractable and more adaptable will find it easier to set up and stick to a structured daily schedule, as many experts recommend. (I put pants on most days – is that structured enough for you?)
☞ Agreeableness: If you tend to be polite, compassionate and cooperative, you’ll be better equipped to negotiate life in quarantine with family members or housemates.
☞ Openness to experience: If you tend to be curious and imaginative, you will likely become absorbed in books, music and creative solutions to the humdrum of lockdown (which I’m sure my family will appreciate!)
☞ Neuroticism: If you are more susceptible to stress and negative emotions than most others, you are most at risk for anxiety and depression during these challenging times. (I’m so neurotic, that I’ve already diagnosed myself with conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness, introversion AND extroversion!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A pub in Northern Ireland is keeping spirits up for those living in lockdown by offering door-to-door Guinness delivery service. The Hatfield House has been delivering freshly-poured pints of Guinness to its Belfast customers who would otherwise have to go without the distinctive taste of a perfectly poured pint of the black stuff. Using a van outfitted with a portable tap system, mobile bar staff are careful to ensure it’s a contact-free service, with drinks poured on location into plastic glasses by workers wearing latex gloves, and the brew left on the doorstep for the customer. (A whole bunch of drunken porch pirates in that neighborhood…)

➠ A man was jailed last week for hitting a woman during a dispute where she accused him of clogging up all the toilets in the house. (He was just Flush-Turd, y’all…)
➠ Fact of the Day: Roughly 6 billion people on Earth own a phone, but only 4.5 billion have access to a working toilet. (“By working toilet”, I think they mean a NOKIA!)
