BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

★ Kristen Wiig received a star-studded reception when she hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the 5th time, allowing her to join the elite “Five-Timers Club.” After welcoming the SNL band, the “Bridesmaids” star said: “As a former cast member, it is very special being a 5-timer.” She was interrupted by Paul Rudd who asked if he could be part of the sketch where she gets her jacket. Wiig explained that they weren’t actually doing that, but then Paula Pell chimed in, saying she used to be a writer, and that the 5-timers club isn’t actually a big deal, and Lorne Michaels gives out the commemorative jackets “out to everybody like free maxi pads.” Proving her point, Matt Damon appeared, wearing a jacket. Although he has only hosted twice, he said Michaels told him that his first time was so good, it counted for 3, and the second counted for 2. At that point, Wiig needed to ask Michaels directly. As the camera panned to him, he was flanked by Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Martin Short and Jon Hamm — none of whom have hosted 5 times…but all wearing jackets. In the end, next week’s host Ryan Gosling appeared on stage in a 5-timers jacket, before finally giving Wiig her own.

★ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” easily held on to #1 at the box office. Industry estimates have the film earning just under $32 million domestically in its second weekend, following its $80 million opening weekend. Elsewhere, a pair of newcomers showed mixed results: “Monkey Man” came in second with an estimated $10.1 million, and “First Omen,” a prequel to the classic 1976 horror film, opened to an estimated $8.4 million.

★ Cole Brings Plenty, the actor who played ‘Pete Plenty Clouds’ on the “Yellowstone” spinoff series “1923”, has been found dead in Kansas days. He was 27. Police say his body was found in a wooded area late on Friday morning, after reports of an unoccupied vehicle. Brings Plenty was a media student at Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas. He had been missing since March 31, and was a suspect in a domestic violence case. The investigation is ongoing.

★ It’s the end of an era at “Wheel of Fortune”. Pat Sajak recorded his final shows as host of the iconic game show on Friday, on the Sony Studios lot in Culver City, California. The final episode will air on June 7, when Sajak will end his legendary run as host after 41 seasons. But he won’t be totally gone, at least for now. The 77-year-old will serve as a consultant for 3 years, as the show transitions with its new host, Ryan Seacrest.

SHOOTING THE BULL

FLIPPIN’ COINS:
This could change how we all come to a conclusion on 50-50 propositions…not to mention how football games are started. University of Amsterdam have found that when flipping a coin, the chances of heads or tails coming up are not exactly 50-50. The team analyzed the results of 350,757 coin flips using 46 currencies, and found that coins had a 50.8% chance of landing on the same side they started from. In their conclusion, the researchers pointed out: “If you bet a dollar on the outcome of a coin toss, and repeat the bet 1,000 times, knowing the starting position of the coin toss would earn you 19 dollars on average, which is better than the casino advantage for 6-deck blackjack against an optimal-strategy player.”
(350,757 coin flips? How did they decide to analyze that specific number of coin flips? Or did they leave it to…you know?)
(Never mind 50-50 propositions, this could change how I make all my important life decisions!)

APOC-ECLIPSE NOW:
Millions of people in North America will have the chance to witness a rare total solar eclipse today. It occurs during the brief period when the moon totally covers the sun, with a show of streamers and magnetic loops dancing around the sun. For those watching from within the moon’s path of totality, the sun’s rays will be completely blocked, plunging the surrounding landscape into darkness for a short time. Darkness will last, at most 4 minutes 28 seconds over northern Mexico. As the shadow moves eastward, it will pick up speed. Experts warn the eclipse excitement could create dangerous and busy traffic conditions as people pack into the narrow band with the best view. Canada’s Niagara Falls region, which was tagged by National Geographic as the “most picturesque” place to view the eclipse, has declared a state of emergency as it prepares to host over one million visitors for the event. The next total solar eclipse in North America will be in 2044. And remember, to avoid eye damage, proper gear is essential. Glasses with special dark lenses certified for solar viewing are the simplest option. Similar filters are also available for cameras and smartphones.
(So, you’re saying that using my binoculars is a bad idea?)
(Why is it that they can tell us about an eclipse happening in 20 years, but they can’t predict the weather correctly for next Tuesday?)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ On an island off the coast of a Scotland, a local grocer’s boo-boo turned into a national charity event. Dan Dafydd wanted 80 chocolate Easter eggs to sell in his shop on one of the Orkney Islands, but accidentally ordered 80 CASES, for the total island population of 500. Wondering what he was going to do with all those Easter eggs, he decided to raffle off groups of 100, with proceeds going to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, which rescues dozens of people and vessels every year. The international media picked up on it, and it proved to be such a big hit that, in the ultimate irony, Dafydd had to order more chocolate eggs, because he ran out. What’s more, manufacturer Nestlé contacted Mr. Dafydd with the proposal that they would match any donations received up to £10,000, with the aim of raising £20,000 (US$25,300).
➢ Can you imagine the joy of seeing your beloved pet dog that went missing 7 months ago? In March, dog dad Mehrad Houman miraculously received word that Mishka had been found. What was puzzling, though, is how Mishka the dog ended up 2,300 miles (3,700km) away from her home in San Diego. Last month, a resident of Harper Woods, Michigan called police about a stray dog. Luckily, Mishka was microchipped and a local shelter identified her owners. Even luckier, Houman and his family happened to be visiting Minneapolis for Easter at the time, so he made 10-hour drive to pick up his beloved pet. The shelter that helped with the reunion posted a video on Facebook showing the dog’s tail-wagging reunion with family. The strangest part? Someone taught Mishka to sit while she was away. GUILTY PLEASURE FOODS THAT ARE HEALTHIER THAN YOU THOUGHT:
It’s Monday…treat yourself a little…
❑ Cheese and butter: Provide healthy fats and boost immune system. Also good for gut health and overall well-being. Cheese also contains vitamin B12 and phosphorus.
❑ Eggs: An excellent source of protein, and packed with nutrients like choline, biotin, and vitamin A.
❑ Potatoes: They are high in flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acids — which all help protect against cardiovascular disease and cancer. (Not the way I eat ‘em!)
❑ Whole milk: It is rich in nutrients and has been linked to lowering the risk of obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
❑ Fatty fish: Not only provides all the healthy fats you need, it also is a source of protein, and monounsaturated and omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for heart health, brain function, and overall well-being.
❑ Nuts: Packed with fats, fiber, and other vitamins essential for the body. Also, good for the heart, and can help control blood sugar levels and weight management.
❑ Chocolate: In its purest form, it is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants — compounds that supply blood flow to the heart and reduce inflammation. It has also been shown to aid brain function and boost immunity. (Uh…For the record, are 11 Easter Creme Eggs considered “chocolate in its purest form”?)
❑ Coffee: Consume it in moderation, but it is rich in antioxidants that help reduce the risk of several diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, and Type 2 diabetes. (…and in many situations, murder!)
(But try as I might, I just can’t seem to find “potato chips” on this list. They MUST be good for something!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The Minnesota Twins’ AAA affiliate is standing firm on its decision to name its live pig mascot “OzemPig” – even after a number of fans squealed in protest. The St. Paul Saints, known for their tomfoolery, traditionally employ young pigs to help out with delivering game balls to umpires. The team hosts an annual contest to come up with a silly name for each animal. Past winners include ‘Ham Solo’ and ‘Notorious P.I.G.’ This year’s winner, Ozempig, beat out candidates like ‘Porky Blinders’ and ‘Sloppenheimer’, but some felt that the reference to the popular weight-loss drug was a form of fat-shaming.
