BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett says she is retiring from acting in the near future. The actor-producer said in an interview with the UK’s Radio Times that she isn’t sure calling herself an “actress” is quite accurate, quote: “Because I’m giving up… My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting. [There are] a lot of things I want to do with my life.” The Australian star spoke ahead of BBC’s Radio 4 airing of Blanchett’s first radio play, an adaptation of Wallace Shawn’s “The Fever”. She recently wrapped up work on “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother”, set for release this year, also starring Adam Driver.

★ Health officials found extensive evidence of rats on Gene Hackman’s New Mexico property during a hantavirus risk assessment after the star’s wife was killed by the rodent-linked disease in February. An environmental assessment of the property revealed rodent feces in 3 garages, two casitas (smaller detached buildings such as guest houses) and 3 sheds. An additional live rodent, a dead rodent, and an entire nest were found in the garages. Arakawa died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare disease humans can catch from contact with rodents, rodent feces, saliva and urine.

★ Jack Black has waded into the “chicken jockey” discourse. At a screening of “A Minecraft Movie” over the weekend, he surprised fans by showing up to the theater and issuing a tongue-in-cheek warning against the viral trend that involves shouting at the screen and throwing popcorn in response to an Easter egg in the film. Before revealing himself to the theatergoers, Black shouted: “For today’s presentation of A Minecraft Movie, please no throwing popped corn, and also no lapis lazuli… and absolutely no chicken jockeys!” For good measure, Black then showed off his Minecraft character’s signature pickaxe, proclaiming, “Oh yeah — ‘I am Steve.’ Are you ready to rock?”

★ NBC‘s “Night Court” has set up a colliding of the “Big Bang” Universe, as Simon Helberg of “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon’s” Raegan Revord are set to guest star in the Season 3 finale airing May 6. Night Court star and exec producer Melissa Rauch played Helberg’s wife on the CBS smash The Big Bang Theory. Although Helberg’s role is under wraps, his character is set for a game-changing cameo that could shake things up for Rauch’s ‘Abby’. Revord will play ‘Shelby’, a teen runaway inclined to marry her soulmate, in an homage to the Michael J. Fox episode from the original series.
-Deadline
★ Seven years after “Duck Dynasty” ended, we now know when the Robertson family is coming back. A&E’s “Duck Dynasty: The Revival” will premiere on the network May 28. The revival, which was announced in January and has already been renewed for another season, will follow both the original Robertson family and their new additions. Fans can expect appearances by original series favorites including Uncle Si and Miss Kay, plus Willie and Korie’s now-adult kids – as well as their new grandchildren.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Doja Cat – is still teasing new music. Over the weekend, she posted 30 seconds of the new tune ‘Jealous Type’. That title was also one of 16 songs to appear on a possible track list Doja Cat shared on X Sunday morning. But for those asking when a new album will drop, she said: “Don’t ask me”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mt6ea323
• Billie Eilish – revealed in a new British Vogue cover story that she “absolutely hated” her first name when she was growing up. Quote: “’I thought Billie was a boy’s name.’ That’s all I ever heard every day of my life.” Now? “There’s no other name in the universe that could be my name besides Billie. I love my name so, so, so much. It really is the only possible choice for who I am.”
• Spin Doctors — Frontman Chris Barron said he was high on weed during the entirety of the band’s most successful years. He told Rolling Stone: I was baked outta my mind high 24/7, man. I was high from the age of, like, 14 to 30.” He finally stopped when his daughter was born, and being a single parent, he reasoned that she could be taken away from him.
• Stevie Nicks – In addition to her 4 scheduled stadium shows with Billy Joel in New Jersey, California and Michigan, she has added 9 new arena shows. Those start Aug. 12 in Boston and run through Oct. 15 in Oklahoma City. Tickets go on sale Friday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n8t652k
• Pink Floyd – Their visionary 1972 concert film “Pink Floyd At Pompeii – MCMLXXII,” from director Adrian Maben, will return to theaters this spring in remastered form, with a physical release set for May 2 in a variety of formats. The film has been digitally remastered in 4K from the original 35mm footage, with enhanced audio newly mixed by Steven Wilson. LINK: https://youtu.be/hDoK1Hbk0SI
• Post Malone – His next album will be a country album, just like 2024’s “F-1 Trillion”. He told Billboard that he has already “made probably 35 songs” for the project, and now, “It’s just a matter of which one’s rock, and which one’s sock.”
• Eric Church – came through on his promise. He was there as the new housing development Blue Haven officially broke ground Friday in Newland NC. It is part of the area’s relief efforts following Hurricane Helene in Sept. Church and his wife, through their nonprofit Chief Cares, had committed to helping cover housing costs for up to 3 years, with families also given the option to purchase their homes later.
• Carrie Underwood – got teary-eyed toward the end of the final performance of her 3-year Las Vegas residency “Reflection at Resorts World Theatre”. As the last song played, and she was being drenched by a waterfall onstage, she said to the crowd: “Thank you very much for coming out tonight.” She then wiped away some tears (and water!) and let herself have an ugly cry. SHOOTING THE BULL
EASTER ALT:
With egg prices the way they are in some places, people are taking creative liberties with their Easter preparations. One popular alternative is to decorate marshmallows. And for less than $2, Jet-Puffed is selling their home-decorating kit, which includes a bag of jumbo marshmallows (which are conveniently egg-sized), plus 6 colors of dye, miniature tongs for dipping, and decorating pens. A press release says the “Dip and Decorate Dozen” kit is a “festive, mess-free twist on egg decorating”. Jet-Puffed says the kit was created in response to soaring egg prices forcing parents to “search for creative and budget-friendly alternatives to keep the time-honored tradition alive without breaking the bank.” The kits are available exclusively on the Walmart website. (Not only is decorating marshmallows a brilliant idea, they make it whole lot easier to eat your mistakes, too!)

SNAP IT AND SCRAP IT:
It’s wonderful that spring is finally here – except for one thing: Spring cleaning. But here’s something that might help you clear some of that clutter that’s been hanging around your place for years. A recent study found that taking photographs of those sentimental items that are so hard to let go of makes it easier for people to donate them – and get rid of them once and for all. Researchers at Pennsylvania State University found that not only are people are more likely to be OK with giving up items they have photographs of, they also discovered that there is a difference between donating and selling clutter. When people are selling their stuff, taking photos doesn’t have the same impact as when they are donating. Why? Not sure, but they might study that in the future. In the meantime, get busy snapping pics of your ‘treasures’, and then donate them to a worthy organization, so someone else can use them.
(Great – now my phone’s a museum of emotional baggage!)
***Caution*** (Just don’t tell any one that you spent all weekend taking pictures of your junk!)

SPACE FACILITIES:
It a crappy job, but for someone, it could be worth millions. NASA is officially tired of space poop just floating around out there, so they’re offering $3 million to anyone who can (ahem!) crack the code on turning astronaut waste – that would include feces, urine and vomit — into something more useful than…well, what it currently is. Enter the LunaRecycle Challenge, NASA’s public call for tech-savvy (and possibly very brave) people to come up with a way to recycle all the bodily leftovers astronauts produce on the moon and during deep space missions. Why? Because there are already 96 bags of human waste laying on the moon from the Apollo days, and NASA would rather not add more to the lunar landfill. The end-goal is to create a high-tech system that transforms all that yuck into something useful and sustainable — that won’t make future moon bases smell like a porta-potty in July. They’re now sifting through the first wave of proposals and, eventually, the top idea will snag the $3 million prize.
(Ummm…Houston, we have a poo problem?)
(I actually first saw this story last week, but I’ve been “sitting on it” for a while!)

THAT’S NORMAL HERE?
A Reddit user recently asked: “What’s something ‘normal’ in your country that would confuse the rest of the world?” Here are some of the most interesting answers…
Japan: “Young children walking in the city and taking public transport alone. Trusting strangers not to steal your valuable stuff when left unattended.”
UK: “Milk and beer are sold in pints, but no other liquids. Driving distances are in miles, but running distances are in kilometers.”
South Africa: “We call traffic lights ‘robots.’ And when the robots aren’t working, random hawkers (street vendors), people who are homeless, and bystanders will jump in to direct traffic, and we just…go along with it.”
Finland: “Probably that we put our babies outside to nap, even when it’s cold.”
Australia: “Saying ‘yeah, nah’ and ‘nah, yeah.’ This subtle language wizardry is second nature to Aussies: ‘Yeah, nah’ = no. ‘Nah, yeah’ = yes. It’s a code.”
USA: “1) Displayed prices don’t include sales tax. 2) Tipping servers in restaurants is expected and almost required.”
Canada: “A bag of milk.”
New Zealand: “Shoes are entirely optional outside of the house.”
Philippines: “We point direction using our pout, or lips.”
Colombia: “Cheese on hot chocolate.”
(What’s your addition to the list? Or better yet, what’s normal in your FAMILY that would raise eyebrows among others?

DID YOU KNOW?
Babies should NOT be put in a dark, quiet room for a nap, but rather in a light room with background noise, such as a washing machine. That’s according to Professor Helen Ball, a scientific adviser for the charity The Lullaby Trust, who has carried out sleep research with more than 5,000 parents and babies. She claims that long daytime naps are like “mini night times” that can disrupt babies’ sleep when it is actually time to sleep for the night. Ball believes parents should let babies and toddlers snooze naturally in a light room, with background noise, so they wake up themselves if they have had enough sleep. (Funny, then, that a light room with background noise never wakes the cat when it has had enough sleep – or me!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day”, an annual event begun as a promotion for a pajama-maker, that’s evolved into another fun excuse for office hijinks. (Many of us have been wearing our PJs while working for years now…)
• “Eggs Benedict Day”, a day to enjoy heart-attack-on-a-plate – poached eggs, topped with back bacon, served on toasted English muffins, and slathered in Hollandaise sauce … made of even more egg-yolks and butter. (Because we’re “Hollandaise” together!)
• “Banana Day”, celebrating…well, you know. The banana is the most popular fruit in the world. The average person eats about 100 each year. And why not? They are the cheapest fruit, and are high in fiber and potassium, which can help with high blood pressure, ulcers, calcium loss, and some cancers. (You had me at cheap!)
• “Healthcare Decisions Day”, to inspire and educate the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning.
• “Save the Elephant Day”, to raise awareness of threats to their future in both Africa and Asia, ranging from poachers and traffickers to loss of habitat. At current rates, ivory poaching could make the African elephant extinct within decades, according to “TIME”.
• “World Voice Day”, initiated in 1999 as a celebration of voice as a tool of communication. Events include concerts, symposia, and open houses at voice clinics, TV shows, and radio programs. (Which celeb has the greatest voice…aside from Morgan Freeman?)
• “Day of the Mushroom”, celebrating edible mushrooms, which can be eaten plain, be stuffed, or used in salads, soups, and sauces. (And pizzas!)
• “Librarian Day”, honoring Dewey Decimal devotees everywhere … but not too loudly. Shhh!
• “Stress Awareness Day”. Stress can be defined as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. It is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives. (So, today, do something about it!)
• “World Semicolon Day”, to celebrate those who chose not to end their lives — because their stories are not over yet. Why the semicolon? When authors use semicolons, it shows that a sentence is not yet ended…and the story is not yet over. Suicide survivors mark the day by sharing their stories, to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.
