A Bull in Hand Is A Sheetload of Fun!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ An Atlanta-based casting company has dropped “Tulsa King” in the wake of allegations that Sylvester Stallone and a director disparaged some background actors who were working on the Paramount+ drama. Rose Locke Casting was hired to find actors for the second season of the Taylor Sheridan series. But apparently the working conditions soon became fodder on a private Facebook page for background actors. Stallone and an unnamed director were accused of calling some of the extras “ugly,” “tub of lard” and “fat guy with cane.” A source close to the show said they are looking into the matter.

★ Prosecutors intend to argue that Alec Baldwin “had absolutely no control over his emotions” on the set of “Rust,” and that he “shamelessly lied” and repeatedly changed his story after accidentally shooting the film’s cinematographer. Baldwin is due to go on trial in July on a charge of involuntary manslaughter for firing a prop gun and killing Halyna Hutchins. In a filing just made public, the prosecutor laid out the allegations against Baldwin in new detail, arguing that he would scream and curse at himself and others on set, sometimes for no reason, and that his behavior contributed to safety failures.

★ A federal judge has shot down a copyright lawsuit brought by the heirs to the author of a 1983 magazine article that inspired the original “Top Gun” movie, rejecting their claim that Paramount Pictures should have renegotiated the licensing agreement before making its sequel. The plaintiffs are the heirs of Ehud Yonay, who wrote an article titled “Top Guns” for California Magazine, only to see it made into a blockbuster film 3 years later, where he was credited. The judge ruled that nothing in the sequel is materially similar to the now 40-plus-year-old magazine article.

★ Robert Downey Jr. isn’t closing the door on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though ‘Iron Man’ met his demise in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”, that hasn’t stopped rumors from circulating that Downey might return. Speaking to Esquire, Downey was asked if he would ever return to the MCU now that he is an Academy Award winner. And he didn’t hesitate, saying: “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA.” But Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, said in December that Downey’s Iron Man will not return because it would ruin his perfect exit in Endgame, and “we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

★ The first installment of Kevin Costner’s Western epic “Horizon, an American Saga” is set to premiere out of competition at Cannes Film Festival. Costner directed the 4-part project, which he also stars in with Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Jena Malone. The “Yellowstone” actor will be on the Croisette to present the film on May 19. “Horizon” will be released in theaters in 2 parts, with the first installment arriving June 28, and the second on Aug. 16.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Billie Eilish — After teasing new music with mysterious billboards, she has announced her 3rd album is on the way. But there’s a twist — she’s not releasing any singles ahead of time. “Hit Me Hard and Soft” drops on May 17. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2zhr85f4
• Pharrell Williams – celebrated his 51st birthday Friday by surprise-dropping his new album “Black Yacht Rock Vol. 1.” It contains collabs with Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys…and get this: It’s not on streaming services, but is available on the album’s official website for free! LINK: https://blackyachtrock.com/
• Missy Elliott — is hitting the road as a headliner for the first time. She and supporting acts Ciara and Busta Rhymes posted a reel to their Instagrams showing all 3 walking out of a space ship. After Busta says they took a wrong turn, Missy reveals her “Out of This World: The Missy Elliott Experience Tour.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/47ttaa7j
• Foreigner – will not be completely done at the conclusion of its current farewell tour. Bassist Jeff Pilson said in an interview that the group will be doing “some shows” in 2025. In addition, the group recorded a new live album last week. No word on a release date for that.
• Bruce Springsteen – “Shameless” star Jeremy Allen White will play him in the upcoming film “Deliver Me From Nowhere”, chronicling the making of the Boss’ stark 1982 album ‘Nebraska’. It’ll be written and directed by Scott Cooper. Shooting will begin this fall.
• Carly Pearce – says her new single ‘My Place’ was inspired by a heartbreaking dream she had (quote) “long before the relationship I was in ended, but I knew that it would.” The song will appear on her new album “hummingbird”, out June 14. The first single, featuring Chris Stapleton, ‘We Don’t Fight Anymore’, is climbing the charts now. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4e2898dy
• Miranda Lambert – has announced a short tour for this summer. Joining headlining sets at Stagecoach, Rock the Country, Calgary Stampede and Under the Big Sky, plus a 3-night stand at Whitewater Amphitheater in Texas, she added 6 US shows in July, Aug., and Sept. Tickets go on sale Friday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ymbfntxy
• Chris Janson – sold his entire classic car collection. Why? His family was joined for Thanksgiving by an 18-year-old who’d dealt with homelessness and other obstacles, but turned out to be “happier…than anyone at the table”, showing them that the material things in life don’t matter. Over the following weeks, Janson sold his garage of cars and all but one of his watches, and gave the money to charity. A family hunting and skiing trip came first.
SHOOTING THE BULL
THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL:
Are you someone who feels music inside of you? Well, it turns out that some songs really can strike a chord in our bodies. Japanese researchers decided to investigate the ways in which musical notes can elicit specific bodily sensations and emotions. They asked 527 volunteers to map where they “felt” music while listening to 8 tunes. Each song had a mix of chord progressions, with varying degrees of uncertainty and surprise. Participants were also asked about how the music made them feel emotionally. Here’s what the researchers found:
• Songs that were more surprising were felt in the heart, while predictable music was felt in the stomach.
• Sensations in the heart were strongly linked to musical appreciation and feelings of pleasure, which led to a decline in feelings of awkwardness and anxiety.
• Sensations in the stomach – brought on by predictable chord progressions – brought on feelings of calm, satisfaction and nostalgia.
The head of the study said the research shows that music is not just something we listen to with our ears, but “an experience felt throughout the entire body, particularly in the brain, heart and abdomen.” He hopes the research can lead to the use of music for stress relief and enhancing mental health.
(Please note: When it comes to Nicki Minaj, you can skip that part about listening with the brain!)
(…of course, AC/DC long ago perfected the art of making music feel like a good, swift kick in the…you know whats…!)

SCIENTISTS SAY:
➢ Adhering to the Keto Diet improves severe mental illness. A new pilot study from Stanford Medicine researchers found that a keto diet not only restores metabolic health in patients taking medication, it also improves their psychiatric conditions. Those living with conditions like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder are often given antipsychotic medications. While these drugs can help save lives by regulating brain chemistry, they may also contribute to problems such as insulin resistance and obesity. But those who were also put on Keto reported improvements in their energy, sleep, mood and quality of life, making them feel “healthier and more hopeful”, the study author said.
➢ CBD doesn’t help people dealing with chronic pain, according to a new study – and it may be harmful. A team from the University of Bath in the UK went so far as to call CBD products marketed for treating chronic pain “a waste of money.” CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a natural chemical compound in the cannabis plant. But this one is non-psychoactive, meaning it doesn’t contribute to marijuana’s trademark “high” feeling. In their study, the researchers found that CBD products may contain other chemicals which may be harmful (including leading to liver toxicity) — and illegal in some jurisdictions. (The stuff doesn’t help with pain – AND it doesn’t even get you high? They must be getting it from the same guy that I do!)

MARATHON MAN:
Just over a year ago, a 27-year-old British man who goes by the nickname, the “Hardest Geezer,” began jogging from the southernmost point of Africa – trying to become becoming the first person ever to run the entire length of the continent. And on Sunday, he finished! Russ Cook reached Tunisia, the northernmost point of Africa, and was cheered on by the fans he picked up while posting about his 9,941-mile (16,000km) journey on social media. In 352 days, he ran the equivalent of 376 marathons across 16 countries — and only went missing in the jungle of the Democratic Republic of the Congo once. He used his run to raise over £600,000 (US$760,000) for 2 charities. His comment after taking a dip in the ocean: “It was good. I’m a bit tired.”
(And when a future job interviewer asks about the gap in his resume – he’ll have one hell of a story!)
(…and this is what happens when she tells you: “Don’t come back until you’re ready to apologize!”)

INCREDIBLY POPULAR THINGS THAT ARE ACTUALLY REALLY, REALLY BAD:
A Reddit user asked: “What is the best case of ‘Just because it’s popular doesn’t mean that it’s good?'” Here are some of the best answers…
✗ “Cable TV. They should be paying us to watch commercials, not us paying them.” (Wait ‘til he finds out that streaming services are doing the same thing…)
✗ “Those damn Stanley cups. I got my wife one when they first became popular, and our generic ones keep ice [colder for] FAR longer.”
✗ “I never understood Twitter [now ‘X’]. The threads and replies are odd to follow. It should just un-collapse like Reddit. I never understood why people love it so much.”
✗ “Starbucks. Burnt beans and crap chemical-filled snacks.” (That’s why people need to load their drinks up with sugar and foam and cream and pumpkin whatnot!)
✗ “Headlights so bright that the owner is the only one on the road who can see anything.”
✗ “The hate for Taylor Swift. It’s super trendy to hate on her, but the gal goes up on stage and actually sings and plays…She writes her own songs……She also single-handedly got young people to register to vote.”
✗ “Sequels, prequels, reboots, reimaginings, etc. Just stop.”
✗ “The Fast and the Furious series. The series had a few great movies early on…but they have gotten progressively ridiculous since then. (Did you actually think the early ones weren’t ridiculous?)
✗ (***Caution – language***) “The answer is 100% TikTok. I don’t get the appeal for it. From what limited I’ve seen of it, it seems like a bunch of shite.”

DID YOU KNOW?
In 1978, at age 22 and in his first year of teaching, science teacher Pat Moriarty gave his 9th grade students a list of solar eclipses and told them to circle the one in 2024, expected to pass over their hometown near Rochester NY. He promised they’d watch it together, as he did for students for the next 16 years. Monday, about 100 of his former students reunited on his lawn and completed their 46-year-old homework assignment.
