BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Dog the Bounty Hunter’s stepdaughter got into an argument with her lover and punched him in the face, according to what he told police, who have charged her for domestic violence. Police in Honolulu received a call just before midnight on July 31 about an argument at a residence, and when they got there, the alleged victim told officers Cecily Barmore punched and bit him. She has confirmed there was an incident, but says it was an “altercation where a man struck me and said vile things about the memory of my dead mother.” She was placed under arrest for misdemeanor abuse of a household member.

★ ‘Tis the season… for Hallmark and Funko to team up and drop the holiday ornaments of your dreams. The iconic brands have collaborated to launch a collection of ornaments featuring popular characters from movies, TV shows, and comic books, like “Friends”, “The Office”, “Star Wars”, “Harry Potter”, “Spiderman”, ‘Batman”, and more. The Walmart-exclusives are designed to look like Funko’s collectible Pop! figurines and cost US $10 each. The majority have already sold out once since their launch, with the Friends characters being the first to go.

★ Ethan Hawke says he got off to a rocky start with Robin Williams when they worked together. “Dead Poet’s Society” was one of Hawke’s earliest screen roles, and proved to be the breakthrough that propelled him to a successful career. In a new interview, he recalled that he initially didn’t get along with star Robin Williams. Quote: “I thought Robin hated me. He had a habit of making a ton of jokes on set. At 18, I found that incredibly irritating. He wouldn’t stop and I wouldn’t laugh at anything he did.” Williams eventually became one of his earliest champions, and even put him in touch with his first agent.

★ Jason Momoa is doing his best to guard the oceans — not just in the “Aquaman” movies, but in real life too. In 2019, he founded a water company called Mananalu, which provides recyclable aluminum water bottles to replace single-use plastic ones. This summer, Mananalu landed a huge deal to distribute those bottles more widely than before. The company partnered with a food service company called Earth Angel, which provides food, water and refreshments to TV and film sets all over the world. That means that many of the biggest jobs in Hollywood will now run entirely on Momoa’s environmentally-friendly water bottles, which can be recycled or re-used many times over.

• Michael Jackson – His brother Tito says The Jacksons want to record a new tune featuring previously unheard work from Michael. Quote: “Anything that would work we would be willing to give a try and see what happens.”
• The Beatles – An expanded version of their final album “Let It Be” will be released October 15. The 1970 record has been newly mixed and will be released in a variety of formats to coincide with the premiere of Peter Jackson’s documentary “The Beatles: Get Back.” The Super Deluxe version includes 27 previously unreleased recordings, a 4-song EP and the never before released “Get Back” stereo LP.
• Iron Butterfly – Ron Bushey, the drummer famous for the 3-minute solo in their 1968 17-minute psychedelic classic ‘In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida’, died Sunday at 79. A cause of death was not disclosed. He was the member to appear on all 6 of the band’s albums, continuing to perform with the group for decades.
• kd Lang – says that back in the early days of her career, “a k.d. lang show was the original Tinder”. She came out in 1992 and has long championed gay rights causes. Her new remix album “makeover” gives a “dance twist” to her country sound.

Rhett says: “When I came back, the very first song I wrote was ‘Country Again’.”
SHOOTING THE BULL
TIPPING POINT:
Do you find yourself tipping service workers more since the beginning of the pandemic? Restaurateurs and industry experts say hospitality workers need higher tips to offset their losses during the pandemic and are asking customers to help out. With the dual challenges of a labor shortage and increasing food costs facing restaurants, one food columnist is suggesting a minimum tip of 18%, even for takeout. If your dining experience was good or outstanding, make it 20% or more. A June survey found that 20% of Canadian anticipated tipping more than they did prior to COVID-19, but 71% did not expect to change their tipping habits. The research found almost half of Canadians feel there is more pressure to give a decent tip since the pandemic.
(Well, I do, too NOW!)
(First, they tell me to tip, even for takeout. THEN they tell me to tip extra if my dining experience was good. How do I know it was good if I’m tipping before I eat?)
(How about you? Do you find yourself tipping more, considering how tough the pandemic has been on food service workers?)

IN THE HOUSE:
The audio-only chat app “Clubhouse” has announced it will launch a “spatial audio” feature to make voices sound as if they’re coming from different directions, helping conversations and virtual performances feel more life-like. The app jumpstarted the social audio trend last year and became known for chatrooms of thousands, including chief executives and celebrities. But now it faces increasing competition from tech giants like Facebook, Twitter and Spotify, which have all introduced their own audio chat features. Depending on how many speakers are in a Clubhouse room and other factors, the app’s new technology will assign users a ‘spatial positioning’, so the listener will hear the voices surround them in their headphones. Spatial technology makes it easier to detect when different users are speaking. For instance, in a comedy room, Clubhouse’s technology will detect the main speaker and place that person’s voice in the “front,” while the laughter of others could sound as if it is coming from the left and right sides.
(Unless I’m the one telling the jokes. Then they don’t need to worry about people laughing laughing…)
(If I wanted to hear a bunch of people arguing and talking over one another, I’d just stay at work!)
(They know my earbuds only work in one side, right?)

RISING SUN:
The key to re-igniting the romance in your life has been shining down all along. According to researchers from Tel Aviv University, exposure to ultraviolet radiation via sunlight increases romantic passion in humans. In a study, they exposed both men and women to UVB (ultraviolet radiation type B) in a controlled setting. Both genders exhibited increased romantic passion. And when participants were asked to avoid sunlight for 2 days, and then tan for 25 minutes, blood tests showed big upticks in hormones such as testosterone. Oh, one more thing: male subjects also experienced an increase in aggression.
(Awesome. I’ve got some chocolates and roses to return. Now I just need to get my wife to help me cut the grass, and we’ll have a wonderful date night!)
(I’ve seen those viral videos of ‘Karens’ in Florida. Trust me…the sun makes females more aggressive too!)
(So, they’re sure it’s the sunlight making guys horny…and not all those bikinis on the beach?)

SMALL CHANGES THAT CAN IMPROVE YOUR LIFE:
A small action daily is infinitely better and more impactful than a massive change you can’t sustain. Here are some micro habits that can improve many areas of your life. . .
➢ Start your day with at least one glass of water — hydrate before you grab a coffee. (I have a coffee before I do ANYTHING. Including drink coffee!)
➢ Have a few minutes of quiet time to think about and prepare for a good day ahead. Enjoy the sunrise before you check email and socials.
➢ Don’t make your morning workout a chore. Instead of an hour of exercise, try 5 minutes of plank, push ups, sit-ups or squats. (This one has MY vote!)
➢ Schedule short downtimes in between work throughout the day. For every hour of hard work, take a 5-minute break. (That’s when your boss will show up. I guarantee it!)
➢ Focus on small wins in the first half of the day. For every task you need to complete, break it into simple actions you can quickly get done.
➢ End your day with a tidy desk ready for tomorrow, so you don’t have to spend your morning getting ready for work.
➢ Invest at least 30 minutes each day doing a hobby you find relaxing. You can schedule it in the evenings or early mornings. (We hope you find washing dishes and doing laundry relaxing!)
➢ To make long-term goals work, break them into achievable daily goals. Focus on checking them off one day at a time.

DID YOU KNOW?
‘Type O’ blood was originally named ‘Type Zero’ blood, due to the lack of glycoproteins in the red blood cells. It was misread and is now called Type “O” blood. It is still often called ‘0’ (zero, or null) in other languages. (I guess you could call it a “typo”!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Eat Outside Day”, a great excuse to eat outside one more time before Summer comes to an end and we all get busy with Fall activities. (Did anyone book the ants?)
• “Love Litigating Lawyers Day”, Well, they DO love litigating… (You know the problem with making lawyer jokes? Lawyers don’t think they’re funny, and no one else thinks they’re jokes.)
• “Trail Mix Day”, celebrating the combination of nuts, seeds, dried fruits (bark, twigs, compost, etc.) . . . that takes about a gallon of water to wash down.
• “Matchmaker Day”, honoring those romantics (aka busybodies) whose dauntless pursuit of perfect matches for cupid’s arrow results in long-lasting love stories. Playing matchmaker requires a bit of social savvy, the ability to listen, and timing.
• “We Love Memoirs Day”, a memoir is different from an autobiography in that an autobiography may cover a person’s whole life, but a memoir has a narrower focus, covering a significant period in a person’s life. Some historically important memoirs include Henry David Thoreau’s “Walden”, and Anne Frank’s “The Diary of a Young Girl”.
• “Touch-A-Heart Tuesday”, take the opportunity to show your love toward others. Just like the old 60’s tune goes “Put a little love in your heart”. After all, love is eternal and a little bit of love goes a long way.
