BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ James Corden and Stephen Colbert are going back to work in the studio. The two talk show hosts have been fronting their programs from home due to the pandemic, but they are now reportedly heading back to more traditional shooting format, albeit without a studio audience. Corden previously taped “The Late Late Show” at the CBS Studios lot in West Hollywood, while Colbert’s “Late Show” was produced at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City. At this point, it’s still unclear where they will be recording the new episodes.

★ “Big Brother 22” — the second All-Stars season — kicked off last week. Of course, it wouldn’t be Big Brother without a bit of drama, and as it turns out, the drama this season goes back to some pre-gaming that may have happened before the game even started. While there do not appear to be any rules against pre-gaming, fans are not pleased to hear that alliances may have been formed before the season even began. These rumors have already drawn plenty of ire from both fans and former contestants, with some saying that pre-gaming ruins the integrity of the game.

★ Serena Williams is working to make going back to school safer for children. As parents worry about sending kids back to school in the midst of a pandemic, Williams shared a video announcement, and wrote: “I’m teaming up with @bellacanvas, the National School Board Association and @scholasticinc to donate 4.25 million masks to underserved schools and provide educational materials about masks to 54 million students and all 115,00 schools in the United States.”

★ James Wan will produce a new “Knight Rider” movie. Wan is set to help develop a new adaptation of the classic 1980s television series, which starred David Hasselhoff as crime fighter ‘Michael Knight’. Plot and casting details for the movie are being kept under wraps for the time being, but it is reported to be a present-day take on the story that will maintain elements of the original series. (A self-driving car that talks to you — not very revolutionary in 2020!)

• Madonna – announced in an Instagram video that she is working on a screenplay with Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody. Her caption: “When you’re stuck in a house with multiple injuries what do you do? Write a screenplay with Diablo Cody about…?” Some fans suspect that the two are writing a Madonna biopic.

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL:
The phrase “OK Boomer” is thought of — and rightly so – as an insult to an older generation. But according to the author of a new book, it’s a more-than appropriate reaction by millennials for the ways in which the baby boomer generation has created many of the problems for which the younger generation is now blamed. Millennial journalist Jill Filipovic, author of “OK Boomer, Let’s Talk: How My Generation Got Left Behind” writes that her generation is only now “starting to grasp the degree to which we have gotten screwed.” She says that Boomers, now well into their 60s and 70s, retain significant control over politics, and they aren’t likely to loosen their grip any time soon, meaning Millennials are not enjoying their fair share of political influence. She also says that while many of today’s young adults leave post-secondary education with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, when the average boomer was the same age, their educational debt amounted to just $2,300 in today’s dollars. She also points out that Boomers were the last generation to enter a job market offering living-wage blue-collar work.
(Ummm…sorry not sorry?)
(She brings up some good points. It’s too bad that Millennials don’t read books!)
(And as usual, everyone forgets about Generation X!)

NEW NEW CORONAVIRUS INFO:
New research shows that 20-50% of people may have an immune system that recognizes the new coronavirus despite never having encountered it before. It seems that some of us are lucky enough to harbor “immunity assassins”, called T cells, which lurked in our bloodstreams even before the pandemic began. These are most likely the result of previous exposure to other, related coronaviruses, including some which cause the common cold. Marion Pepper, an immunologist at the University of Washington, says: If you have a population of T cells that are armed and ready to protect you, you could control the infection better than someone who doesn’t have those cross-reactive cells.” These T cells might help to explain why some people who catch the virus become very sick, while others only experience relatively mild symptoms.
(If my body is anything like my brain, it would recognize the virus, but not have a clue who it is!)
(And the rest of us have bodies that refuse to recognize the virus at all – just like my non-mask-wearing neighbor!)

ACCIDENTAL INVENTIONS:
⇒ Microwave oven: Percy Spencer was experimenting with radar devices when a candy bar in his pocket started melting. Utilizing this new knowledge, he patented the microwave.
⇒ Potato chips: They were invented when an annoying customer kept asking a restaurant to make his French fries thinner and crispier. George Crum, the chef, sliced them wafer-thin as a joke, but the guy loved them, and the potato chip was born.
⇒ Play-Doh: It was originally marketed as a wall cleaner that didn’t work so well. Luckily, kids started using it to make little sculptures, and before long, the fledgling company was making waves as a children’s toy.
⇒ Post-its: Spencer Silver discovered a ‘low tack’ adhesive in 1968 for which he found no use. Art Fry was frustrated with not having sticky notes for his church books. Combining their heads, they launched post-its in 1980. Fridges have never looked the same.
⇒ Slinky: Naval engineer Richard Jones was experimenting with tension springs for battle ships when one of them dropped to the floor. It kept flopping around, as Slinkies do. Jones got rich and kids everywhere now enjoy stairs a lot more.
⇒ Safety glass: A chemist was working in his lab when a glass flask fell to the floor but didn’t shatter. This was because the inside was lined with plastic cellulose nitrate. He patented it and it is now used in all cars as well as gas masks and more.

STUDY SAYS:
☞ A workout can’t benefit you like it should if you eat too much sugar. That’s according to a study by Boston’s Joslin Diabetes Center. Researchers there found that elevated blood sugar levels can impair muscle signaling and ultimately sabotage workouts. While it has been accepted for decades that hyperglycemia (an excess of glucose in the bloodstream) is related to poor aerobic fitness, and many health concerns, the recent report detailed the exact association between consuming lots of sugar and gleaning poorer rewards from exercise. (***Quietly dumps bottle of sugar water into the change-room shower…***)
☞ Mosquitoes from areas with dense human populations and dry climates are more likely to feast on humans. That’s according to a team of Princeton researchers. Their study concluded that mosquitoes from areas with a rainy season followed by a long, hot, dry season are more likely to congregate near (and therefore bite more) human beings. This is because mosquitos need water to nest their eggs, and humans are the only animals that have figured out a way to bring a reliable, consistent water source to areas that turn arid for months at a time. (I’m pretty sure mosquitos are even more likely to bite in areas with tents, firepits and coolers…)
☞ A study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that as salaries increase, so do hours of sleep per night. According to the study, the further away someone is from the poverty line, the more they sleep. Of the nearly 140,000 US adults surveyed, only 55% of those living below the poverty threshold reported getting a full seven to eight hours of rest each night. Meanwhile, 66.6% of adults making 400 percent above the poverty threshold reported regularly getting a full night’s sleep. (Mo’ money – fewer problems?)

DID YOU KNOW?
“SpongeBob SquarePants” was originally called “Spongeboy”. But that name was already copyrighted by a mop company, so creator Stephen Hillenburg had to come up with another name. Eventually, he decided to use “SpongeBob”, and “SquarePants” popped into his head as a last name.

TODAY’S SLICE OF BS:
➠ A 96-year-old man sunk a ‘hole-in-one’ at a Colorado golf course last week. (He spent 10 minutes playing the hole, and 2 hours yelling at some kids to get off the lawn!)
➠ Steven Spielberg’s remake of “West Side Story” is set to be released December 18th. (Remember, it’s a remake. Not a reboot. A “remake” is making the same thing over. A “reboot” is making the same thing over, but calling it a different name.)
➠ Kylie Jenner turned 23 yesterday. (We had to tell you because Kylie and her family didn’t mention anything about it on social media.)
➠ More and more porn stars have begun Tweeting. (Good! If there’s one thing we love about porn stars, it’s their clever, witty banter.)
➠ A man who lost his penis to a horrific blood infection has become the first man in the world to have a new one scientifically re-grown onto his arm. (The medical term is: “Biceptual”)
