BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ One of Whitney Houston‘s iconic costumes from her 1992 movie “Bodyguard” is on the market.  The singer’s “Queen of The Night” costume from the film is on auction at screenused.com.   That is the costume Houston wore during the live concert scene when she gets attacked in the film, as well as on the movie poster where Kevin Costner is seen carrying her.  The costume, which includes some modifications made by Whitney Houston herself, can be bid on through August 25, but you’d better be ready to throw down some serious cash …the starting bid is $10,000.

★ Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas celebrated their engagement on Saturday morning in front of their friends and family during a traditional roka ceremony. The couple is in Mumbai with their parents where they have been documenting the ceremony. Nick went to India earlier this summer to spend time with Priyanka in her native country. The duo’s relationship has been a whirlwind … they began dating in May and got engaged in July.

★ Scarlett Johansson is the top dog. According to Forbes, Johannson is currently the world’s highest-earning actress, with a whopping $40.5 million in earnings this year. Johansson’s new role in Marvel’s universe as Black Widow is largely responsible for her fat paychecks. And next year, the world gets to see the second part of “Avengers: Infinity War”, meaning that she’ll probably find herself in the top ten then as well. Angelina Jolie is in second place with $28 million, largely because of her upcoming movie “Maleficient II”, which started shooting in May.

★ Someday, Prince Charles will become King of England. But while you might assume he’ll go down in history as King Charles (or more specifically, King Charles III), that isn’t necessarily the case. Apparently, it’s common for potential monarchs to switch things up before hopping on the throne, and Charles could start going by a completely different name. Former Buckingham Palace press spokesperson Dickie Arbiter says that Charles could go by one of his middle names once he ascends the throne, which means we could have a King Philip, Arthur, or George.
-Cosmopolitan
★ Jim Carrey has been talking about his decision to leave Hollywood for the past few years and his decision to return in the upcoming comedy “Kidding”. Quote: “I just didn’t want to be in the business anymore. “I didn’t like what was happening, the corporations taking over and all that.” Carrey says he’s returning to Hollywood a changed man, saying that he is “not back in the same way. I don’t feel I’m little Jim trying to hang on to a place in the stratosphere anymore.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Nicki Minaj – says there was almost a collaboration with Drake on her “Queen” album, but they couldn’t get it done on time. She says: “Drake and I were working on something…about two days before I had to turn it in, he and I had been going back and forth. And then even up until, I would say, within 12 hours of having to turn in my album, we were going back and forth.”
• Camilla Cabello – is inviting 15 fans to party with her after the MTV Video Music Awards. Winners will be selected from fans using the Twitter hashtag #milasafterparty. She is up for 5 awards: artist of the year, song, video, best choreography and best pop for ‘Havana’.
• Michael Bublé – says he lives with ”no fear” after going through his son’s cancer battle. Bublé says that he thought he would never go back to music. “I was done. It just seemed completely unimportant compared to what was going on with Noah.” He says Noah has been ”perfect” since his cancer went into remission.
• Prince – 23 of his “highly-collectible” albums have been made available to stream and download for the first time. Prince’s estate has an agreement with Sony covering 35 of the his previously-released efforts which hadn’t been widely accessible through streaming platforms, and on Friday, they launched the first round of digital releases, covering Prince’s albums from 1995 to 2010.
• Jefferson Airplane – Co-founder Marty Balin is accusing a New York City hospital of destroying his musical career with a botched tracheotomy. A lawsuit against Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital says the singer/guitarist lost part of his tongue and has a paralyzed vocal cord because of the procedure done after he was hospitalized for emergency heart surgery in 2016.
• Mick Jagger – His daughter Georgia May Jagger’s ex-boyfriend, German rapper Norman Theuerkorn, claims he is writing a kiss-and-tell book about their relationship. Mick had apparently been worried about Georgia’s romance with the former con. An insider says: “He is always very protective of his children, particularly his daughters.”
• Korn – Frontman Jonathan Davis’ estranged wife Deven Davis has died. The 39-year-old former model’s cause of death has not been revealed, however, she reportedly suffered with sobriety and substance abuse throughout her life. In 2016, Jonathan filed for divorce from Deven and on Friday he filed for a domestic violence restraining order.
• Scotty McCreery – will hit the road this fall and winter for his headlining ‘Seasons Change Tour’. The 13-date trek, named after his 2018 album, will kick off Nov. 29 in Dallas and make additional stops in Chicago, Atlanta, Boston and more. Jimmie Allen and Heather Morgan will serve as opening acts.
• Miranda Lambert – Her reported boyfriend, Turnpike Troubadours frontman Evan Felker, has finalized his divorce from his wife, Staci Felker. This comes a month after Lambert and Felker, both 34, were photographed together for the first time after months of rumors and speculation about their relationship.

ANTIQUING:
An Ontario cottage-country city has approved the idea of a playground…for seniors. City of Kawartha Lakes council has given the go-ahead to seek funding for a “seniors play park” which would consist of up to seven ‘action stations’ designed to promote agility, mobility and stability, and would be accessible 24/7. The 1,500 square-foot facility would feature fall-resistant ground cover and good lighting. Currently, there are no Canadian Safety Association standards governing seniors play equipment, but broken bones are the most common injury, which rubber surfaces would help prevent. A proponent of the park says that one advantage of a senior’s play park over one for kids is that the older crowd “don’t engage in power exercises … and they don’t need to be told how to play.”
(At least until someone shouts “BINGO!”)
(It’ll be accessible 24/7, but it’ll never, ever be used when “Wheel of Fortune” is on!)

STOPPING FOR A LEAK:
Coffee shop chain Tim Hortons is finally admitting what their customers have been saying for years….their lids leak. And although the iconic company has toyed with the idea of new lids a few times in the past, this time, they say they are serious. Some locations are experimenting with new, more environmentally-friendly lids, which presumably also do not send scalding coffee toward your knuckles at the worst possible time, the way their current ones tend to. The new lids are also emblazoned with a maple leaf, signifying the Canadian origins of the company. The company says that the new lids have been rigorously tested by thousands of people, who climbed hundreds of stairs and drove plenty of kilometres with cups in hand to help design a cup cap that will cut down on the leaking. Tim’s current lid design is over 20 years old.
(All fine and dandy until you OPEN it!)
(I hope for their sake this thing doesn’t involve a straw!)
(Next on the agenda: A public information campaign to tell us whether the cups should go in the paper or plastic recycling!)

MAKES SCENTS:
You know the smell. After it rains…it just smells like…well, like it has been raining. But the question remains: What is that smell? Turns out it is a combination of things. Bacteria, plants and even lightning can all play a role in the pleasant smell we experience after a thunderstorm; that of clean air and wet earth. Known as “petrichor”, the scent has long been chased by scientists and, yes, even perfume makers. The warm, earthy fragrance we experience when rain hits dry ground is produced by bacteria. Rain is also thought to bring out the natural fragrances of many plants. Lightning? Thunderstorms have their role too, creating the clean, sharp scent of ozone. And the rain actually improves air quality, removing dust, aerosols, and other particulates. That also contributes to a nicer smelling world after a rainfall.
(It might also be psychological. We THINK is smells nice because it’s the weekend!)
(OK, now you wanna explain why my dog smells so BAD after it rains?)

THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T SKIMP ON:
➠ Contraception: Your coverage probably doesn’t pay for the Pill, but you can get most types of contraception free at clinics. Even if you have to pay for it yourself, it is still much cheaper than a baby. (And if you are still a certain age, your parents will probably spring for it!)
➠ Brakes and tires: You don’t need the most expensive tires, but you certainly don’t want the cheapest. Or used ones. And have your brakes checked regularly. New brake pads cost a lot less that an accident would. (And just like we talked about in point #1, once you get started, it’s not easy to stop!)
➠ Bed: You spend a third of your life on it. A sagging mattress will lead to back problems and that will cost you more than it would have to buy a decent mattress in the first place. (Nothing worse than calling into work because of a sore back, and not being able to spend the day in bed because that’s how it got sore in the first place!)
➠ Insurance: Don’t overkill here. But make sure you are suitably covered. (Actually if you are as co-ordinated as I am, DO overkill here!)
➠ A decent toothbrush: Proper regular brushing will save you a fortune at the dentist. And don’t wait until the bristles of the toothbrush have flattened out and frayed before replacing it.
➠ Fruit and vegetables: An apple a day keeps the doctor away…Fresh fruit and vegetables every day will lower your chances of picking up viral infections, and contributes to general health and longevity. (And apple a day will keep ANYBODY away if you throw it hard enough!)
➠ Regular exercise: Even nine minutes a day of brisk walking cuts your heart attack risk by 50 percent. Your body needs exercise. Make sure you get it wherever you can. (That’s why I pump my own gas…)
