Sheeters Always Prosper!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Aaron Taylor-Johnson is in no mood to make friends in the new trailer for “Kraven the Hunter”. The first new footage from the upcoming film in over a year sees Taylor-Johnson’s ‘Kraven’ kicking butt and taking names in various gruesome ways, including stabbing his adversaries in the neck, catching them in bear traps and pushing them through windows. As Johnny Cash’s ‘The Man Comes Around’ plays, Kraven transforms from your average hitman into the fur-wearing baddie fans of “Spider-Man” know him to be. Hitting theaters Dec. 13, the film, directed by J.C. Chandor, also stars Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, and Russell Crowe. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdec22xz

★ “Full House” fans are in for a treat! Some of the stars of the beloved sitcom will be reuniting at 90’s Con Florida. The annual celebration of 1990s pop culture nostalgia is headed to Daytona Beach, next month, and the reunion will include on-screen siblings Candace Cameron Bure and Jodie Sweetin — who starred as ‘D.J. Tanner’ and ‘Stephanie Tanner’ respectively — as well as ‘Kimmy Gibbler’ herself, Andrea Barber. The panel will also feature Dave Coulier, who played ‘Joey’. The stars — who also appeared together in the Netflix revival series “Fuller House” — are the latest addition to the stacked line-up for the fan event. Previously announced participants include castmembers of “90210” and “Charmed”, “7th Heaven”, and “Melrose Place”.

★ The whole gang is returning to “Dancing with the Stars” for season 33! People reports that Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro will resume their duties as co-hosts for the upcoming 33rd season of the competitive dance show. In addition, judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough will return to their seats on the judging panel. ABC will announce this season’s celebrity dancers at a later date. Dancing with the Stars season 33 will premiere Tuesday, Sept. 17.

★ George Clooney is mad at Quentin Tarantino after the director claimed the actor was “not a movie star.” In a GQ interview, Clooney is quoted as saying: “Quentin said some (stuff) about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him”. He went on to explain that Tarantino claimed in an interview that Clooney is “not a movie star”, because he hasn’t been in a hit “since the millennium.” The “Ocean’s Eleven” star elaborated, saying: “That’s kind of my whole…career.” Clooney starred alongside Tarantino in the 1996 vampire thriller “From Dusk ‘Till Dawn”, but said now, he doesn’t mind giving Tarantino (ahem) ‘crap’ – because “He gave me (crap).”

★ It’s almost time for “The Golden Bachelorette,” and ABC has unveiled the 24 senior men that will be dating Joan Vassos. Vassos, who was introduced while dating Gerry Turner on “The Golden Bachelor” last fall, will get another chance at love after her husband of 32 years passed away. Bachelor Nation will be happy to see that Kelsey Anderson’s father, Mark, is in the mix after the widower won over fans’ hearts during Joey Graziadei’s season of “The Bachelor” earlier this year. He’s among the 24 men in their late 50s and 60s who will court Vassos, who is 61. The Golden Bachelorette premieres Sept. 18.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Rihanna — Take this with a grain of salt, but a UK tabloid cites an “insider” as saying that her long-awaited new album is on its way, and a 2025 tour is being planned. The informer claims that over the years “so many songs have been recorded with loads of different people, including Alesso and Diplo.” Her last LP of new music came out in 2016.
• Ed Sheeran – This week, he surprised shoppers by pulling up to a supermarket near London in his very own food truck. It was a stunt to promote his line of hot sauces, Tingly Ted’s. Fans lined up to get memorabilia signed — in hot sauce.
• *NSYNC – Their 2000 hit ‘Bye Bye Bye’ is back in the top 10. This week, it moved up to #8 from #16 on the Billboard Global Excl. US) chart, fueled by its inclusion in the blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine”. The song is currently #45 on the Hot 100, which includes US data.
• ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic appears on The Linda Lindas new release ‘Yo Me Estreso’. Yankovic plays accordion on the tune, and appears in the circus-themed music video from the Los Angeles indie/alternative band. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/27sfh7z9
• Men at Work — is headed back out on the road this fall. The Aussie band, led by frontman Colin Hay, is will kick off a fall US tour in Dallas, with stops in New Orleans, Charleston, Ft. Lauderdale, Raleigh, Denver and more, before wrapping Nov. 3 in Del Mar CA. Hay has been touring as a member of Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band since 2018.
• Eurythmics — A movie about Dave Stewart is headed to the big screen. Shekhar Kapur has been hired to direct “Ebony McQueen”, based on Stewart’s 2022 semi-autobiographical album of the same name. It follows Stewart’s teen years in North East England in the 1960s/early 1970s, when he discovered music after hurting his knee playing soccer. Stewart will contribute music to the film.
• Carrie Underwood – On Sunday, she performed during worship service at Rolling Hills Community Church in Franklin TN. She and the worship team sang the contemporary Christian group Bethel Worship’s ‘The Goodness of God’. The song, featuring Jenn Johnson, reached #15 on Billboard‘s Hot Christian Songs chart in 2020. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/326hfyrv
• Oliver Anthony – It has been a year since the ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ became a sensation, and Anthony, who started out driving to gigs in a rented white van, posted this week on Facebook that his tour is almost over. Quote: “I’ve done it without a label. I’ve done it without sponsors. I never have to work again for the rest of my life.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y78mrhk5
• Faith Hill – recently deactivated her social media, leading to fan speculation that a big announcement is coming. Her last non-Christmas album of new music was released in 2005. But it’s also worth pointing out that her “Breathe” album , which includes ‘The Way You Love Me’, ‘Let’s Make Love’, and the title cut, turns 25 this fall, and she might be getting set to announce an anniversary edition or a special tour.

SHOOTING THE BULL

BAD NEWS IF “YO MAMMA SO UGLY”:
I don’t think this is even fair. A study has found that ugly people die younger. University of Texas at Austin researchers found that the least attractive men among us live, on average, nearly a year less than those who are considered better-looking – and for women, the difference is nearly 2 years. The scientists behind the findings said that chances are, this is a result of these…um…not-so-fortunate-in-the-looks-department people spending a lifetime being discriminated against due to their appearance. Research has shown that less attractive people tend to earn less money, and are promoted less.
(On the plus side, at least they don’t have to worry as much about saving for retirement!)
(I don’t want to rush to conclusions, but there must be some trauma involved. I mean, how could there not be some permanent damage from falling from the ugly tree and hitting every branch on the way down!)

NEW FOOD NEWS:
❑ It’s like the holy grail of the dairy department: melt-resistant, healthy ice cream. The secret: banana plant waste. The Columbian developers say that their new concoction will not only last longer before turning to a puddle or slowly dripping down your arm on a hot day, it is also creamier than traditional ice cream, and potentially even healthier. Last year, Japanese scientists developed the melt-resistant ice cream using polyphenol compounds from strawberries, but this new compound, developed using fibers from banana plants, has been found to improve the creaminess and texture of low-fat ice cream as well. They believe their discovery could potentially replace fats used on other conventional products too.  (Just when you thought there one food that couldn’t be improved upon…)
❑ It just might be the best of both worlds. Oreo and Coca-Cola have announced 2 new collaborations. Beginning Sept. 9, these will show up on store shelves: an Oreo-inspired Coca-Cola soda and a Coke-inspired Oreo cookie. That’s right: The iconic brands teamed up to create the perfect snacking duo using one another’s flavors. The Coca-Cola Oreo Zero Sugar is said to taste like the OG Coke, but with the sweet addition of flavors inspired by Oreos. And Oreo Coca-Cola Sandwich cookies will have both the classic ‘cookies and cream’ flavor mixed with sweet Coke. Packages will come with a classic chocolate cookie—infused with Coca-Cola syrup—and a red-colored golden cookie sandwiched with traditional white-colored creme. (The only thing I can think of that would be better is if Oreo teamed up with its God-given natural partner: Milk!)

LIFE’S A JOURNEY – AND SO WAS THIS:
A man who describes himself as a “public transportation enthusiast” has completed his bucket-list journey – traveling from Mexico to Canada via buses and trains – with one big catch: he refused to use any Greyhound buses or Amtrak trains to make the trip. Canadian William Hui set out on his trip on June 24, starting at his home in Vancouver BC. Over the course of 9 days, the 40-year-old relied on public buses and trains to make the trip along the Pacific coast to Tijuana, Mexico. His other rule: Keep walking between bus stops to a minimum. He says his longest walk was about 15 minutes, including border crossings. He spent just $200 on bus tickets, and said the trip was worth every penny. Hui spent a lot of time enjoying the scenery during his adventure, but admits he is thankful for free Wi-Fi.
(I’m willing to bet he hopped on a plane for the return trip. Wait. Nope. By the sounds of this guy, he just decided to catch the next bus home!)
(What would make a guy want to do something like this? Except maybe the fact that he has a travel expense account at work?)

CLEVER USES FOR AIRTAGS:
By now, everyone knows that AirTags are pretty handy for tracking down your luggage when it is misplaced by the airline, but here are some other practical uses that you may not have thought of. (But remember: never, ever track someone without their consent. That would be illegal.)
→ Key & Wallet Tracking: If you’ve ever had to replace these things, you’ll agree that slipping an AirTag in your wallet or attaching one to a key ring could save you’re a world of inconvenience. (And worry!)
→ Pet Tracking: It’s pretty easy to fit one on a pet collar – and you can also buy pet collars that specifically fit AirTags. Not just to help find a missing pet, but it might also be fun to find out where your cat takes off to every day!
→ Bike & Scooter Security: Face it: These things are thief-magnets. Slip on an AirTag for valuable peace of mind. (It also might help you find it in your cluttered garage!)
→ Remote Control Finder: Not just the remote that always goes missing, how about that game controller, headphones, or any other device? Just tape an AirTag to it. (If I ever need to find a game controller, I just look in my teenager’s hand!)
→ Child Safety: Depending on your child’s age, an AirTag might be a good way to keep track of them, by sewing one into a coat or attaching it to a book bag.
→ Senior Safety: If Grandpa refuse to carry a phone, maybe ask if he’d be OK with carrying around an AirTag on a keychain.
→ Workplace Tool & Equipment Tracker: Often, toolboxes go (ahem!) “missing” from job sites. Throw an AirTag in your toolbox or attach one to important equipment. (And the next day, we’ll see who just won the “I got fired” lottery!)
(One more: Teens in cars. Because if you own the vehicle, you weren’t tracking the kid, you were tracking the car. You’re welcome!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Eating well and exercising may be as effective for treating depression as going to therapy, say researchers. A study conducted at Deakin University in Australia found that a healthy diet and regular exercise seem to do be just as effective as traditional psychotherapy in treating depression. They say the finding could help those who struggle with the idea of seeking mental health help, or may not be able to afford regular therapy sessions. (Sounds great – except for the part about having to eat healthy and exercise!)

BS CHRONOMETER 08.15.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Acadian Day” (in Canada), celebrating the French who settled areas of Canada now called Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island in the early 17th century. Many Acadians were later banished by the British to Louisiana, where the name was contracted to ‘Cajun’.
• “Lemon Meringue Pie Day”. Traditionally, it has 3 components: shortcrust pastry, lemon custard filling, and a meringue topping, and there is no top crust. (OK, I’m in! Two, please.) LINK:  http://tinyurl.com/3osh9j9
• “Relaxation Day”, a day to think about, and encourage new forms of relaxation. Meditation? Yoga? Beer?
• “Back to School Prep Day”, to celebrate the beginning of a new school year. While no doubt you’ve been loving summertime, this is your reminder to begin back-to-school prep, including stocking up on supplies, and setting out an area to do homework. (I’m pretty sure this occasion has absolutely nothing to do with “Relaxation Day”!)
• “I Love Cowboys and Cowgirls Day”, saluting all cowpokes everywhere, whether they roam the range or ride the rodeo, pardner.
• “Failures Day”, to encourage the celebration of mistakes. But if you fail on purpose, it is a failure or a success? (***A great listener question: “What was your funniest failure?”***)
• “Check the Chip Day”, a reminder to pet owners to check and update their pets’ microchip registration information.
• “Best Friends Day”, a day for doing something fun with your best friend, such as going to the movies, going shopping, going to a park or restaurant, playing a game, or just hanging out. (A friend will buy you lunch. A best friend will eat your lunch!)

I try – but always end up having a drooly nap whenever I watch golf on TV. These ideas might help…
• Filling the bunkers with quicksand.
• Replacing Tiger Woods with a real tiger.
• Exploding golf balls!
• Having a minister, a priest and a rabbi play … that always turns out to be funny.
• Adding a giant yellow arrow graphic so there’s something to look at when the camera pans all over the sky looking for the ball.
• All participants are required to hire the same costume designer that John Daly uses.
