Ah, the Sweet Smell of BS!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ This year’s inductees into the National Film Registry include a record number of female directors and filmmakers of color as well as a new crop of movies ranging from a silent short film thriller, classic musicals and an acclaimed Batman film. “The Dark Knight,” “Suspense,” musicals “Grease” and “The Blues Brothers” along with Sidney Poitier’s Oscar-winning performance in “Lilies of the Field” are among the 25 movies tapped for preservation this year. Others selected this year include “Shrek”, “The Hurt Locker” and “A Clockwork Orange”.

★ Henry Cavill reportedly injured himself while filming “The Witcher” recently, causing production on the show to halt temporarily. He was filming stunts on “an assault course” when he injured his leg. Doctors have reportedly told him to rest, so shooting is on hold. So far, Netflix, Cavill and other creative minds behind the show have not confirmed the news of this hiccup in the filming schedule. Netflix has often touted Cavill’s dedication to the role, particularly when it comes to stunts and swordplay, which he does himself as often as possible.

★ HBO has officially announced the casting for three main characters for its “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon”, but insiders are saying that there is one more actor in talks for the show. Reports are that Danny Sapani may take the role of ‘Lord Corlys Valaryon’ a.k.a. “the Sea Snake.” If so, he would be the first Black actor to take such a central role in the franchise. Sapani is best-known to many for his roles in ‘Black Panther”, “Penny Dreadfyl” and “Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi”.

★ George Clooney is always game to talk about his multiple ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ wins. In a recent interview, Clooney brought up his coveted title and said, “I’m lobbying for a third one, no one’s ever won three.” The father of two, who was awarded the honor in both 1997 and 2006, jokingly says he’s been helping other SMA winners with their own campaigns.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift – celebrated her 31st birthday on Sunday by releasing a new remix of her latest single, ‘Willow’. She posted the link to the song with the words: “Not to be all ‘iTs mY BiRtHdAY & I jUsT wAnNa DaNcE’ but… it is and I do. So here’s the willow dancing witch version, remixed by Elvira, a bad ass female producer I really respect.”
• Jay-Z — His high-end cannabis brand, Monogram, launched its first products in California with line of craft, indoor-grown cannabis flower and joints. He says, in the cannabis industry, “skilled craftmanship is often overlooked. I created Monogram to give cannabis the respect it deserves by showcasing the tremendous hard work, time and care that go into crafting a superior smoke . . .We’re just getting started.”
• Shakira – says Jane Fonda influenced the video for her new song with the The Black Eyed Peas, ‘Girl Like Me’. She said that the song has that “vintage quality” to it, so “From the beginning I thought: Jane Fonda. Those ’80s workout videos had a really cool aesthetic I wanted to import into this video.”
• Eddie Van Halen — now has a final resting place… the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Malibu. His body has been cremated, and according to his wishes, his son Wolfgang will scatter the ashes off the coast of his hometown.
• Neil Young – His “After The Gold Rush” album is getting a 50th anniversary reissue. It will include different artwork plus the two versions of the song ‘Wonderin’’added to the end of the album after a 30 second pause.
• AC/DC — Angus Young says the 1975 tune ‘Love Song’ is the “most regrettable AC/DC song” of all-time. About the track, found on the group’s debut album, he said: “I didn’t know if we were trying to parody love songs of the time”, because music on the radio at the time was “very soft”.
• Brett Young – has released a rendering of ‘Silver Bells for the holiday season. He says the song is not only one of his favorites, but “Also, it just makes me happy when it comes on and that’s what Christmas is all about.” LINK:  https://youtu.be/fY46a1Vqg6s
• Willie Nelson – The 87-year-old will release “That’s Life,” his tribute to Frank Sinatra, on Feb. 26. It was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood where Sinatra, the first artist to record there, created a string of albums from 1956-61.
• Charley Pride – Some industry professionals are speculating that he caught COVID-19 as a result of his appearance at the CMAs, where he was presented with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. The ceremony took place Nov. 11 in person, though socially distant. In response, CMAs and representatives of Pride issued a statement detailing the protocols put in place for the show, and pointed out that he tested negative multiple times after returning home.

NEW YEAR’S EVOLUTION:
It seems that because of the state of the world in 2020, many of us will be changing up our New Year’s resolutions. In a survey of 2,000 people, 71% said that they will concentrate on learning life skills or setting practical goals in 2021, rather than more traditional resolutions such as going to the gym or losing weight. Some of the top-planned resolutions for next year are saving money (62%) and learning a new skill (50%). Over half of us (54%) plan to better budget in 2021 and 49% hope to pay down debt. 68% say they want to move away from “traditional” resolutions and focus more on experiences – like spending more time with family (53%) and traveling more (49%).
(Yeah, I plan to travel more next year. More than from my living room to my kitchen, and once a week to the grocery store, like this year!)
(And me? I just hope to eat at a buffet somewhere!)
(You’d almost think that ‘staying healthy’ would show up there somewhere…)

HOOP DREAMS:
Is home-court (or home-field, or home-ice) advantage really a thing? You bet it is, according to a new study from the Oregon Health & Science University. They analyzed the effect of travel-related sleep issues and sports performance from the 22 NBA teams inside the NBA bubble over the summer, and found that home-court advantage is actually a factor in the outcome of games. It was determined that travel-related sleep issues (such as jetlag) can really throw off a visiting player’s performance. The researchers found that teams that didn’t need to travel because of the league bubble demonstrated improved shooting accuracy and better rebounds compared to before the pandemic. The average NBA player flies up to 50,000 miles per season, often traversing time zones or leaving for the next destination as soon as a game ends.
(Plus there’s the issue of teammates snoring on the plane…)
(So, you’re telling me that home-court advantage has nothing to do with “the wave”?)
(No wonder traveling is against the rules!)

NOVEL IDEA:
A Canadian family posted an ad asking for someone to infect them with the COVID-19 virus in hopes that they will be able to build their “natural immunity”. The posting appeared on a Revelstoke, British Columbia message board, appealing to anyone who had tested positive for the virus. It read, in part: “We are a healthy family and we would like to safely expose ourselves to the virus, to help build our natural immunity. We can house you for a night or however long it takes, and will provide all of your meals.” It went on to state they were unsuccessful in transmission with their first COVID-19 guest. They assumed they would have to use saliva directly, though they preferred not to. The ad has since been removed from the site.
(But not before it went viral!)
(Wow, you know you’re a loser when you can’t even get the coronavirus!)
(Maybe they should just go to a party at the White House . . .)

LESS STRESS AT X-MAS:
Here are some ways to cut down on stress and enjoy yourself more, according to The Feng Shui Diva, Robin Bentley:
➠ Tap into your happy childhood:  Go through your childhood photos, a time when you were really excited about the holidays. Put some on display for all to see. (Um…because I’d really want someone to do that to me?)
➠ Watch the clutter:  Obstacles in your home can create obstacles in your life, so don’t create them with your decorations. If you have to step over it, duck under it, or squeeze by, its going to add more stress to your holiday. A good cleaning and de-cluttering before you decorate is a good idea. (Great. One more thing for the ‘to-do’ list…)
➠ Chuck the negative stuff:  Everything inside your home has a memory or meaning attached to it. If that memory isn’t positive, why keep it? Get rid of all the negatives and surround yourself with positives. (Which takes me back to those ugly childhood photos…)
➠ Anger:  The more stressed we are, the easier it is to become angry. But, it’s impossible to be angry when your muscles are relaxed. If the holidays start getting to you, take an adult “time out” and go limp like a rag doll by relaxing your body without tensing one single muscle. (“Now you kids behave while Mommy takes her ‘relaxing’ medicine…”)
➠ Get a good night’s dark: Melatonin is the hormone that controls our mood and sleep, and it is produced at night, in the dark. Light makes the body think its daytime. You will be in a more positive mindset if you sleep in the dark. That means no light, no TV, no streetlight coming through the bedroom window. (Although your neighbor might not appreciate it when you stomp through his nativity scene to unplug the ‘Star of David’!!)

DID YOU KNOW?
While the first few years of a marriage are rife with conflicts, it eventually gets better, according to a study by psychology researchers at UC Berkeley. Over time, humor—friendly teasing, jokes, and silliness—becomes more prevalent, and bickering and criticisms decline. Men were found to demonstrate less anger, and women less contempt. The researchers’ conclusions contradict an existing theory that positive emotions fade over time in a long relationship, according to the authors.

✓ Christmas Day boasts the fewest relationship breakups – and the most engagements.
