Why Not Get Sheet-Faced Every Morning?
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
***UPDATE*** ★ Bob McGrath, an actor and recording artist who became a generational icon as one of the original human stars of “Sesame Street,” died Sunday at age 90. First appearing in the series pilot in 1969, McGrath played the friendly neighbor ‘Bob Johnson’, serving as a Sesame Street mainstay across 5 decades and 47 seasons of broadcast television. His final appearance came in 2017, but McGrath did not step away from his association with the series after that, continuing to make public appearances at events tied to the show.

★ Keke Palmer is going to be a mom! The 29-year-old actress announced she is expecting her first child with boyfriend Darius Jackson on “Saturday Night Live.” During her opening monologue, she said: “There’s some rumors going around. People have been in my comments saying ‘Keke’s having a baby, Keke’s pregnant,’ and I want to set the record straight — I am,” as she opened her blazer to reveal her baby bump. As the crowd cheered, the “Hustlers” star continued, “It is bad when people on the internet spread rumors about you y’all, but it’s even worse when they’re correct.” Although Palmer likes to keep her relationships out of the public eye, she has nonstop gushed about Jackson, whom she began to date in the summer of 2021.

★ Nick Cannon has been hospitalized. The TV personality confirmed the medical situation on Friday, revealing he has a bad case of pneumonia. “The Masked Singer” host shared a photo from his hospital bed, saying: “Okay, so I guess I’m not Superman…”, but it’s “nothing I can’t handle.” He did turn serious in his Insta post, writing “I promised myself I would never be back at this place again… But this is a great lesson to take care of YOU or YOU won’t be able to take care of everyone else.” The father who has welcomed 11 kids with 2 on the way, has battled the autoimmune disease lupus for 10 years. Cannon said he didn’t want prayers or well wishes…he just needs some much-needed rest and he’ll be back “stronger than ever.”

★ Britney Spears made the internet do another double take Friday night – and this time, she didn’t have to take her clothes off to do it. On the singer’s 41st birthday, she posted a tribute to her estranged sister Jamie Lynn Spears. Britney wrote: It’s my b-day but you’re my heart so I’m thinking about you.” Adding, “Congratulations on being so brave, inspiring, and showing guts and glory in your show!!!. You ain’t alone … I get it. My baby sister!!! I love you !!!” Britney’s Instagram post took the internet for a loop following the siblings’ longtime, very public feud. In January, Jamie Lynn received a cease-and-desist letter from Britney’s attorney ahead of her book tour for her memoir, “Things I Should Have Said.” Following a clapback from Jamie Lynn, Britney called her sister “scum” on social media, and said in a quickly-deleted post that she “should have slapped” her “selfish little brat” sister and mother, Lynne. ★ With less than 2 weeks to go until the release of “Avatar: The Way of Water,” the box office is sliding into another dry period, with Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” staying #1 despite diminishing returns, with the blockbuster earning an expected $15-16 million in its 4th weekend, and bringing it to the doorstep of $400 million domestic. The seasonal action comedy “Violent Night” is estimated to have met projections with an $11.8 million opening weekend. Starring David Harbour as a surly, beatdown-dealing ‘Santa Claus’, the R-rated film had a $20 million budget and could turn a modest profit.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson – Friday, the two singers and former “Voice” coaches released a live recording of their holiday duet ‘Santa, Can’t You Hear Me’, originally performed last year during Clarkson’s NBC Christmas special. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p868phc
• Taylor Swift – A group of fans are suing Ticketmaster over the fiasco surrounding her Nov. 15 “Eras” tour presale. They accuse the agency of not supplying “verified” fans access to presale codes, as promised, and of being “eager to allow” scalpers access to the presale, from which Ticketmaster would receive a resale commission, according to the suit.
• Fleetwood Mac – Their “Rumours” LP is the top rock album on Billboard’s list of the 200 best-selling records of the year in the US, at #30. That’s unless you refer to Machine Gun Kelly as “rock”, who placed 2 albums on the list. MGK aside, not a single rock album released this century made the top 100.
• Rolling Stones – The British Royal Mint has launched a set of limited-edition coins to celebrate 60 years of the band. They are the latest in the Mint’s “Music Legends” series, and are some of the final coins to bear an image of the late Queen Elizabeth II. £5 coins are retailing for £23.50.
• Guns N’ Roses — Axl Rose says he will no longer throw his microphone into the crowd at the end of concerts “in the interest of public safety” after a woman was struck, leaving her bloodied and bruised during the finale of a show in Australia. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yhhdhhbj
• Miranda Lambert – has announced her “Miranda Lambert: Velvet Rodeo The Las Vegas Residency” will now run through the end of 2023. 16 new shows have been added in July, November and December 2023. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
• Keith Urban — paid tribute to late Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie during a show in Gold Coast, Australia. He offered his spin on snippets of ‘Say You Love Me’, ‘Everywhere’ and ‘Songbird’, and later posted video to social media: https://tinyurl.com/2bdymfb8
• Morgan Wallen – His “One Night At A Time World Tour” kicks off March 15-24 with shows in New Zealand and Australia with HARDY, before returning stateside April 15 in Milwaukee. SHOOTING THE BULL
SPAM – NOW EVEN WORSE:
Apparently, they really took the line “Now, bring us some figgy pudding,” seriously. The makers of Spam have introduced Figgy Pudding — a festive twist on the original canned gelatinous pork product — just in time for the holidays. And the “limited-time purchase” is so popular, it has already sold out on Amazon, Walmart and the company’s website. Figgy pudding Spam adds “notes of cinnamon and nutmeg combined with fig and orange flavors,” to the original recipe. Hormel, the makers of Spam, has posted some recipes online for holiday skewers, a charcuterie board. . . and even pancakes containing the figgy pudding. Figgy pudding, a traditional British dish, is a steamed cake with raisins, currants, and brandy. The modern version does not include figs. Hormel has also created an animated video called “We Wish You a Figgy Christmas,” which includes the lyrics: “and a Spam-tastic New Year.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4xd69vje
(Are you thinking what I’m thinking? That they need to make a ‘spam filter’ that’ll help you avoid THIS?)
(I’m sorry, but I can’t see a day when I’d ever eat something with the word “figgy” in it!)

SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN:
If you ever feel nostalgic for the sound of an old phone modem connecting to the internet…or the beeps and boops of a fax machine, for that matter, then you should go here . . . now: A website has put together what it claims is “the world’s biggest collection of obsolete and disappearing sounds.” Cities and Memory, an online collaborative, features a collection of over 150 sounds that are increasingly rare, including things like sounds used in retro video games, recordings of old-fashioned transport, and lots of mechanical sounds from outdated hardware. Or how about the classic ringtone from a Nokia 5120 phone…or (ahem!) the sound of an old analogue radio being tuned? The founder says the project is “designed to draw attention to the world’s disappearing soundscapes, to highlight those sounds that are worth preserving because they form part of our collective cultural heritage — and to help us think about how to save those sounds before it’s too late.” And they’re asking for more. Submit at: http://citiesandmemory.com/obsolete-sounds/
(What disappearing sound would you like to contribute to this project?)
(What sound do you just not hear any more – aside from the sound of civil discourse?)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ Rolls-Royce and easyJet have set a new aviation milestone with the world’s first run of a modern jet engine on green hydrogen fuel. The ground test was conducted on an early concept demonstrator using green hydrogen that was created by wind and tidal power. It marks a major step towards proving that hydrogen could be a zero-carbon aviation fuel of the future. The partnership was inspired by the UN initiative ‘Race to Zero’, encouraging companies to try and reach zero emissions by 2050. As of now, most renewable or green aviation fuels have been made through vegetable oil, or other biological fuels. Hydrogen, however, is considered to be the only way to fully-decarbonize the aviation industry, which accounts for about 3.6% of global greenhouse gas emissions. (But will we still be allowed to hate rich people with private jets?)
➢ It took 5 years for the adoption of Jennifer Hubby’s son to go through, and just before the official paperwork was signed, he had something he wanted to share. During the November adoption hearing in Bernalillo NM, the judge asked if anyone wanted to address the court. Hubby’s son took her up on the offer, telling the judge, “I wanted to say that I love my mom so much and that she’s the best mom I ever had. I love her so much.” An already emotional Hubby, who began the adoption process at his birth, became choked up, and her son pulled her in for a hug. The judge’s response: “You know what, it’s important to tell people you love them…that’s what we’re supposed to be doing. That’s a good thing.” (I’m not crying – YOU’RE crying!)

HOW TO GET RID OF THAT GROGGY FEELING:
Do you always wake up with that groggy “morning after the night before plus it’s Monday” feeling? University of California scientists believe they found a foolproof 3-step formula to turn sluggishness into a refreshed morning feeling. The problem? It’s gonna be tough…
• Do strenuous exercise: Exercising helps you sleep well at night, which leads to superior alertness and higher mood levels throughout the next day.
• Get 7-9 hours of sleep: While that amount is ideal, getting just a little more than usual can help. Sufficient sleep helps clear the body of a chemical called adenosine, which makes us feel tired and builds up throughout the day.
• Eat a hi-carb, low-sugar breakfast: The scientists found breakfasts with a lot of sugar left test participants feeling groggy following a spike in blood sugar levels, but a breakfast rich in carbs was found to help increase alertness.
(Ah, well. Back to coffee and complaining!)
