BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara is reportedly in talks to join the judging panel of “America’s Got Talent” following the controversial departures of Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough. Vergara is said to have met with NBC bosses last week to discuss the potential gig, as well as a number of other proposed projects, including a possible Spanish-language series.

★ Margot Robbie once got so drunk at an awards show she thought she had died. She shared the story during her recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, recalling the first time she attended the Logie Awards in her native Australia at age 19. Robbie said: “I got so drunk I passed out in one of the toilet stalls. For a second in my drunken state, I was like, ‘Did I die? Is this purgatory? Am I in between heaven and hell right now? This is so weird.’” Eventually a member of the cleaning staff was able to convince her she wasn’t in the afterlife. (Although the next day, she wished she was!)

★ Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell released a koala into the wild to celebrate their engagement. The happy couple got engaged in July, and to mark the special occasion, they took a rescue koala from Australia Zoo – which is owned by Irwin’s family – and released it, so it can live freely. Speaking in a preview clip for the upcoming season finale of “Crikey! It’s the Irwins!”, Bindi said: ”The first time I met Chandler, he was a holding a koala. So, it only seemed right to celebrate our engagement by releasing a koala back into the wild.”

★ Get ready for a new “Jackass” movie. The crew’s first film since the death of Ryan Dunn is scheduled to premiere on March 5, 2021. At this point, no other details are available, but it is possible that franchise stars such as Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve “Steve-O” Glover, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Ehren McGhehey, Preston Lacy and Jason “Wee Man” Acuña may return. Jackass crashed into pop culture in the early 2000s with a controversial series on MTV. In 2002, the first film, “Jackass: The Movie”, debuted and was a big hit. It was followed by sequels in 2006 and 2010.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Drake and Future — have been cooking something up — from behind the counter of an Atlanta-area McDonald’s. The two were spotted on Friday night wearing fast-food uniforms during what appeared to be a video shoot. Earlier this year, the pair teased that a “secret project” was in the works.
• Halsey — was one of the many thrilled fans who turned up to pack Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium for the first My Chemical Romance concert in seven years on Friday night. After the show, she shared a video of herself belting out the words of the band’s song ‘Famous Last Words’.
• Don McLean – was the special musical guest at Alex Trebek’s annual holiday party in LA on Wed. Trebek told the audience: “I can officially take this off of my bucket list. This was a real treat for me.” The two hadn’t met before.
• Sex Pistols – former guitarist Steve Jones has returned to hosting his Los Angeles radio show, “Jonesy’s Jukebox” for the first time in months after enduring a “nightmare” recovery following a secret heart attack. The 64-year-old revealed he has been in and out of hospital since August, after initially fearing he was having a stroke.
• Lindsey Buckingham – has announced his first performance since emergency open-heart surgery in early 2019, which resulted in damage to his vocal cords. He’s been added to the line-up for the Beale Street Music Festival, May 1 to 3 in Memphis, TN.
• Tom Petty — An all-star group has released a cover of his song ‘For Real’. The new version, dubbed ‘For Real – For Tom’, features Willie Nelson, his sons Micah and Lukas (collaborators with Neil Young as part of Promise of the Real), Jakob Dylan (son of Bob), Dhani Harrison (son of George) and Amos Lee. Proceeds benefit the Midnight Mission, a homeless shelter in Los Angeles that Petty supported.
• Carrie Underwood – has given fans a sneak peek at some new fashionable and athletic pieces which will be available soon as part of her CALIA collection. In the snap, she can be seen checking out various fabrics, likely considering what styles to incorporate into her next batch of sports bras, leggings, and more.
• Keith Urban – sang a stripped-down version of Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ on Saturday with Amy Shark. He was performing at Sydney Coliseum Theatre in Sydney, Australia. Earlier this year, Urban sang a countrified version of Swift’s ‘You Need to Calm Down’ as part of his Human Jukebox session.

THEATER ROUNDUP:
➢ How would you like the chance to stream first-run movies from the comfort of your own home? Legally. With Red Carpet Entertainment, you can – but you’d better be rich. The idea for the startup, which has been called “the opposite of Netflix” was hatched by a pair of entertainment industry friends on a golf course. Although Red Carpet launched in October, the company is currently looking for 3,000 “rich” Americans who will put up $15,000 and pay up to $2,500 per movie to watch the latest theatrical releases in their homes. The company has deals with 10 major movie distributors, and with box-office sales slumping and projected to fall again next year, they say that moviemakers are happy to have a new source of revenue. Their most popular movie right now is “Ford v Ferrari,” starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon. No movie is priced below $500, and customers get to see a film twice in a 36-hour period.
(Why would the rich want to do this? Because they can!)
($2,500 per movie? At least you can bring your own snacks!)
➢ Going to the theater once a month might help you live longer. That’s what scientists at University College London are telling us. They tracked nearly 7,000 adults over the age of 50 for 12 years. Those who “engaged with the arts” every few months were 14% less likely to die by the end of the study. Visiting museums, theaters, art galleries more frequently – once a month – cut the risk by 31%. The scientists say that a regular trip to a theater or other place where you are exposed to artists’ works could improve mental health and encourage physical activity.
(Which kind of puts a damper on that first story, doesn’t it?)
(I don’t know how the test subjects made out, but I bet the scientists who had to track 7,000 adults over age 50 for 12 years nearly died of boredom!)
