BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Guess who won ‘Model Of the Year’? Models.com has just announced the winners in an end-of-2015 ranking of top fashion models. Germany’s 5′-9″ Anna Ewers (featured on the “2015 Pirelli Calendar”) has won the top spot as the industry’s pick for best model. Gigi Hadid won the ‘Reader’s Choice Award’, just ahead of runner-up Kendall Jenner, both of them having participated in the “2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show”.

★ Netflix has picked up “Mindhunter”, a 2nd drama series from “House of Cards” creator David Fincher. It’s based on the 1996 book “Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit” by John Douglas & Mark Olshanker. Douglas spent decades developing criminal-profiling techniques for the FBI and teamed with writer Olshanker for the story of his 25-year career tracking down serial killers. Fincher is set to direct the TV drama as well as executive produce, alongside business partner Charlize Theron. It’s unclear at this point if the actress will also star in the series as no casting has yet been announced.

★ Actors Jeff Daniels and Michelle Williams are heading back to Broadway in a new production of the award-winning play “Blackbird”. Daniels is re-teaming with director Joe Mantello for the project, after they garnered critical acclaim for an Off-Broadway version in 2007. Williams will take on the female lead. The drama chronicles the tense reunion of a couple who come face-to-face 15 years after having an illicit sexual affair when she was underage. The new production premieres in February at NYC’s Belasco Theatre. A feature film adaptation, starring Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn, is also coming in 2016.

★ And “Pretty Little Liars” returns with the 2nd half of its 6th season after the new year, but how much longer will the hit ABC Family show go on? Despite the fact the network has made no formal announcement, series creator Marlene King says she would like for Season 7 to be the last. One reason may be that King has been working on a pilot for another show titled “Famous in Love”, which stars Bella Thorne. New episodes of “Pretty Little Liars” kick off with a 5-year time jump, resulting in a more mature point-of-view. Season 6B returns January 12th, the same day ABC Family takes the new name Freeform.

MOM’S AGE AFFECTS CHILD’S INTELLIGENCE:
Using information on 18,000 children gathered over an extended period of time, researchers at the London School of Economics say kids born to first-time moms in their 30s have better cognitive scores and ‘behavioral outcomes’ than first-born children with mothers in their 20s. That may be because first-time mothers in their 30s are more likely to be educated and in stable relationships; have higher incomes and healthier lifestyles. They are also more disposed to have planned their pregnancies and to seek prenatal care earlier. Children of 30s moms also outperform kids whose moms gave birth in their 40s. Those offspring are more often obese because their moms didn’t play with them as much. (These days more women are waiting until their 30s to have kids … and that seems a good thing.)

In Canada, it’s also the excuse for giant after-Christmas sales in stores.
