Sheet For Brains!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Tomorrow morning the team behind the Sam Mendes-directed 24th ‘James Bond’ film reveals its title and cast via a livestream from the 007 Stage at Britain’s Pinewood Studios at 11 am GMT (3 am EST). The announcement will also be live-tweeted via the official handle @007. Alongside Daniel Craig, who returns in his 4th ‘Bond’ movie, reports suggest the cast includes Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz who will play the iconic ‘Bond’ villain ‘Blofeld’. Principal photography starts next Monday.

★ Even though she said she wasn’t interested at one point, Kathy Griffin will in fact replace the late Joan Rivers as host on E! channel’s dishy fashion critique program “Fashion Police”. Griffin admits she has some ‘big shoes’ to fill, but has decided the show is a good fit for her. Brad Goreski, of the Bravo show “It’s a Brad Brad World”, is also joining the cast. A new season of the series is expected to begin on January 12th.

★ And actor Christian Bale has lashed out at Hollywood’s ‘whining’ stars, saying it’s time for his peers to stop complaining about paparazzi. The former movie ‘Batman’ tells “WSJ Magazine’s” December/January issue that he’s tired of hearing stars like George Clooney moaning about life in the spotlight. Quote: “Come on, guys, just shut up. Just get on with it and live your lives and stop whining about it.” His remarks could come back to bite him … in Hollywood, NOBODY picks on Clooney.

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …
• 70% of us say we’re often disappointed by the gifts we receive during the holidays.
• 50% of men go to a hardware store (or building center) … every weekend.
• 35% of us dress casually at work … every day.
• 30% of us have no clue how to re-fill the windshield washer fluid in a car.
• 24% of cellphone owners say the room in which they use their phone most is … the bathroom.
• 2% of us claim we change the bed sheets … every day.

R.I.P. SPIDER-MAN:
He took his secret to the grave. An obituary in the “Minneapolis StarTribune” says that 35-year-old Aaron Joseph Purmort has died from a “radioactive spider bite that led to years of crime-fighting and a years-long battle with a nefarious criminal named Cancer, who has plagued our society for far too long.” It goes on to say that civilians would know Purmort as ‘Spider-Man’ and thank him for his many years of service protecting our city. The obit claims that his surviving son Ralph “will grow up to avenge his father’s untimely death.” Spidey’s funeral is being held today. (An obit with humor … ever seen one before?)

BS BUZZWORDS:
New cutting-edge vocab …
• ‘Firstable’ – Initially; to start with. This comes from a mishearing of the phrase ‘first of all’. (“Firstable go to the bathroom before you get in the car, kids.”)
• ‘Happiness Curve’ – The U-shaped curve obtained by graphing individual happiness levels over time, which typically drop until midlife, level off for a time, and then rise. (For most, the biggest ‘downslope’ occurs from ages 35-to-50.)
• ‘Omega Block’ – An atmospheric phenomenon that forces cold air that normally sits over the North Pole further south. (Is it just us or are we seeing a lot of different terminology in the last couple of years to describe what we used to call ‘freaking cold!’?)
• ‘Vortex-Proof’ – Able to withstand extreme cold, particularly the frigid conditions created by the polar vortex weather phenomenon. (Right, ‘polar vortex’ … freaking cold!)

IS A CRUISE VACATION RIGHT FOR YOU?
A few questions to ask yourself before you book it …
✓ Are you a hands-on or hands-off vacation planner? On a cruise almost everything is planned for you. If you enjoy creating your own detailed vacation itinerary, a cruise may not be for you.
✓ Do you like meeting other travelers? On a cruise you better, because you’ll be rubbing shoulders with hundreds of others on deck and at the various dining and entertainment venues.
✓ Are you a picky eater? Cruise ships have really improved onboard cuisine of late, luring noted chefs. But even so, food options can be limited, especially if you adhere to a strict diet.
✓ How do you like to experience a destination? Cruise ships usually stop in many ports of call, but only for a short period of time. And you’ll have to adhere to the cruise ship’s schedule.
✓ Are you worried about health & safety? Despite a bad rap for flu outbreaks and other illnesses, the percentage of cruise passengers affected is actually tiny. Still, if the idea of a cruise leaves you feeling trapped or anxious rather than relaxed, it’s likely not a good idea.
✓ Do you get seasick? Opt for a bigger cruise ship. Avoid itineraries that involve numerous consecutive days at sea. And remember: Most people who suffer from motion sickness tend to find their sea legs after a day or two. (So it’s only 48 hours of agony.)

WE WILL ROCK YOU:
San Jose Sharks fans now can feel the bone-crunching action in the hockey arena … from the comfort of their couch at home. In a first for the NHL, a system dubbed ‘4-D Sports’ transmits a special signal from San Jose’s SAP Center to a gizmo under a fan’s couch, letting them ‘feel’ the action every time a player crashes into the boards. The remote vibration is made possible by sensors on the boards surrounding the ice rink which send a signal to a computer. The idea is to create an increasingly realistic virtual experience. But it’s an open question how many fans will sign up for the service, which costs $300, or whether it will go the way of other gimmicks such as 3-D TV. (For further realism, have your kid charge you $20 for a beer from your fridge.)
