Deja Moo!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ After 13 years of anticipation, James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” has finally been unveiled for members of the press following the movie’s world premiere in London. First reactions are overwhelmingly positive, with many journalists blown away once again by Cameron’s imagination and pristine visual effects. Fandango’s Erik Davis wrote: “Happy to say ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is phenomenal…Bigger, better & more emotional than ‘Avatar,’ the film is visually breathtaking, visceral and incredibly engrossing. The story, the spectacle, the spirituality, the beauty – this is moviemaking & storytelling at its absolute finest.” “Happy Sad Confused” host Josh Horowitz raved, “James Cameron once again shows filmmakers how it’s done…’Avatar: The Way of Water’ is how you do epic blockbuster-ing. Emotional, visceral and as big as movies get.” Avatar: The Way of Water opens in theaters Dec. 16.

★ The laughs will keep on coming. “The Daily Show” has released its lineup of A-list guest hosts who will take over once Trevor Noah departs after tonight’s show. The show will return to its 11pm timeslot on Comedy Central Jan. 17. Beginning on that date, Al Franken, Chelsea Handler, D. L. Hughley, Leslie Jones, John Leguizamo, Hasan Minhaj, Kal Penn, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes and Marlon Wayans will host, each for a week at a time. The network is still looking for someone to fill the spot permanently beginning in the fall of 2023.

★ ABC has announced the star-packed performance lineup for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve”. Ryan Seacrest will return to host the show, which will include performances from 4 venues, including Disneyland, for the first time. The Happiest Place on Earth will be home to several pre-taped performances. Ciara will host the show there and will perform, as will Fitz and the Tantrums, and Maddie & Tae, Shaggy and more. The LA Party concert will feature Wiz Khalifa, Finneas, Armani White, Betty Who, Dove Cameron, and Nicky Youre. Billy Porter will again host the Central Time Zone countdown from New Orleans. And Liza Koshy will return to co-host the Times Square segments with Seacrest. Jessie James Decker, who recently competed in Dancing With the Stars, will also be at Times Square.
-PopCulture
★ “The Office” star Mindy Kaling has said she thinks “so much” of the show is “inappropriate” now. Kaling explained on “Good Morning America” that it’d be a tough assignment to make a reboot of the beloved NBC sitcom, because “That show is so inappropriate now”. The writers who I’m still in touch with now, we always talk about how so much of that show we probably couldn’t make now”. When asked what her character, the pop-culture obsessed ‘Kelly Kapoor’, would be doing in a 2022 version of The Office, Kaling responded: “I think she would have quit Dunder-Mifflin to become an influencer, and then probably be canceled, almost immediately. Actually, most of the characters on that show would be canceled by now.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
(***Caution: ‘F-bombs’***) • Demi Lovato — It’s been just 4 months since she unveiled the album “Holy Fvck”, but she’s already working on new music. Lovato took to TikTok this week to post a clip in which she lip synchs to a clip that says “Here the (F) we go”, with the caption: “When [you’re] getting back in the studio”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2uwaat53
• Lady Gaga — The man who shot and wounded her dog walker while stealing her French bulldogs last year has been sentenced to 21 years in prison. James Jackson pleaded no contest to attempted murder, according to the LA County District Attorney’s Office.
• The Pogues — Shane MacGowan’s wife has given fans an update after he was rushed to hospital last week. The singer of the seasonal classic ‘Fairytale of New York’ is being “treated for an infection”, and “doctors are confident he will be OK.” The 64-year-old, who has used a wheelchair since he broke his pelvis in 2015, has been in and out of hospital in recent years.
• Fleetwood Mac – Some of the late Christine McVie’s items raked in big bucks at an event by Julien’s Auctions over the weekend. Two of her dresses were sold, including the vintage maxi number she wore for the “Rumours” album ($56,250). Some instruments, including 2 organs and an electric baby grand piano — brought in nearly $200,000.
• Tom Petty – Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench says he’s not interested in playing again with the group, because it just isn’t the same without Tom Petty. He says, however, that there is still music that could be released at some point. Quote: “We always recorded more than what we put out…fairly often, I would wonder why a song had been left off the record.”
• Mickey Guyton – has been named TIME’s first-ever “Breakthrough Artist of the Year”. It recognizes her as a country music change-maker, and an artist who represented the genre on some of the most visible stages. In 2022, she sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl, hosted PBS’ A Capitol Fourth Independence Day special, and became the first Black nominee for the Best Country Album Grammy.
• Eric Church – has released a sneak-peak of his new flagship bar-restaurant, Chief’s, a collab with entrepreneur Ben Weprin. The Church Choir will have the chance to have a ‘Drink in My Hand’ at the 6-story venue set to open at 200 Broadway in Nashville. He uploaded some digital renderings of the bar, which resembles an old-school honky-tonk, covered in photos representing chapters of his life. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2mckxx2k
• Morgan Wallen – Billboard’s 2022’s #1 country artist in the world has announced the addition of 14 shows across 13 cities in the US and Canada, with back-to-back nights in 10 stadiums. The tour kicks off March 15-24 with shows in New Zealand and Australia with HARDY, before returning stateside April 14 in Milwaukee. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n6bnpbz

SHOOTING THE BULL

THERE’S NOW ALSO AN APP FOR THIS:
You may have heard the saying that “Music soothes the savage beast”. Well, apparently it can do even more than that. A new music app supposedly acts as a personal “therapist” by creating customized playlists to help listeners care for their emotions…through music. The Emotion Equalization App takes stock of the user’s mood and energy through a questionnaire in the app, and uses that info to create a corresponding therapeutic playlist of consoling, relaxing or uplifting tunes. Scientists agree that music can change emotional states and distract us from negative thoughts and pain. It has also been shown to help improve memory, performance, and mood. Developer Man Hei Law, of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology said the app could be used by people who may not want to receive counseling or treatment. By taking listeners on an emotional roller-coaster ride, the app aims to leave them in a more positive and focused state than where they began.
(Can’t we just call it “Tech Support”?)
(OK, but some days, I’m gonna need a LOT of Kenny G music!)

HEALTHCARE COSTS:
In light of skyrocketing inflation, most people have made an effort to cut personal spending…whether it’s because they HAVE to, or just out of principle, as in: “You want me to pay HOW MUCH for THAT?” But what do you absolutely refuse to reduce your spending on? A new poll of 2,000 adults in the US found that no matter how tight things get, 44% wouldn’t cut spending on their health and wellness. In the OnePoll survey, 8 in 10 said, yes, they have cut down on their general spending within the last 6 months. Three-quarters said they have been affected by inflation. In what areas have people reduced spending? Shopping came in first, with 70% of respondents saying they’ve cut some corners there. That was followed by entertainment (59%) and food (58%). Half of those surveyed (49%) said they plan to spend MORE of their budget on their health and well-being in 2023.
(Good! That means I can get the expensive aspirin for New Year’s Day!)
(Yeah, yeah, yeah. In December we all have a lot of grand plans for the next year that we really have no intention of following through on…!)

SCIENTISTS SAY:
➠ Scientists say they have finally figured out why people get more colds during the winter months. In research the medical community is hailing as a breakthrough, a study published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that cold air weakens the body’s immune response — especially in the nose, which is one of the first sites of contact for respiratory viruses and an important part of the body’s immune response. The research found that reducing the temperature inside the nose by just 9° Fahrenheit (5.6°C) kills nearly 50% of the billions of virus and bacteria-fighting cells in the nostrils. (So, it’s got nothing to do with being stuck inside for 6 months with a bunch of contagious co-workers who keep sneezing in the general direction of my lunch?)
➠ If you ever get criticized for being an old bear before your first cup of morning coffee, just blame it on science. A new study from Thailand has shown that having a caffeinated drink in the morning has some serious brain benefits. Results published in Physiology and Behaviour showed that there was a reduction of alpha wave activity following a morning caffeine hit – a type of brain activity that is linked to drowsiness. Working memory also showed an improvement following consumption of a caffeinated drink. That’s essentially your short-term memory firing up with your first cuppa. And even more good news: That reduction of alpha waves is linked to an increase in cognitive function. (Awesome! I just sent an order of 100 coffees over to town hall!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The average couch has been a part of 311 arguments, 316 drink spills, and 286 episodes of makeup sex, according to a poll. On average, a sofa will stay in someone’s home for 8 years, being the location of 401 naps, and playing host to 8,500 hours of TV time. The study of 2,000 adults in the UK, commissioned by British furniture company Sofology, also found the typical couch suffers 65 scribbles from kids, and sees men sleeping on it a total of 269 times after a fight with their significant other or a drunken night out. The average couch will double as cinema seating 537 times over its lifetime — and will swallow the remote control 346 times. (And how often do we clean those things?)

BS CHRONOMETER 12.08.22

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Christmas Tree Day”, a good day to put yours up. Some go out and cut down a real tree, tie it to the roof of their car, and bring it home. Others drag a box out of the attic or basement, fluff up the branches of an artificial tree, and stick them into a post. (But at least there’s a much-lower chance of vermin escaping into your home that way…)
• “Brownie Day”, celebrating the chewy chocolate in a pan that you just can’t quit eating.
• “Pretend to Be a Time Traveler Day”, created in 2007 by the Koala Wallop online community. The basic premise is to pretend to be someone from the past or future who’s somehow ended up in the present. (No comments about my wardrobe, please…)
• “Take It In the Ear Day”, a day to learn how to accept criticism graciously. (What did ya THINK it was about?)
• “National Lard Day”, while traditionally viewed as unhealthy, lard can be used to incorporate healthy fats into a nutritional diet. Lard Day showcases how it can be used and how it is considered a better fat option than butter or grease. If you love lard (and don’t have anything better to do), share its benefits on social media, using #nationallardday
