★ U.K. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has demanded that Netflix label “The Crown” as fiction, in order to make it clear that certain events depicted in the show should not be taken as fact. In an interview he said: “It’s a beautifully produced work of fiction, so as with other TV productions, Netflix should be very clear at the beginning it is just that. Without this, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.” Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer said last week that he also believes a disclaimer is necessary.

★ Ryan Seacrest doesn’t spend much time in L.A. these days — he’s living in New York where he co-hosts “Live with Kelly and Ryan”, so he’s selling the Beverly Hills home he bought from Ellen DeGeneres — and plans to make a tidy profit. He has reportedly listed the estate for $85 million, after paying $39 million for it in 2012. He spent another $2 million on an adjacent property. Seacrest will still commute to L.A. to do “American Idol,” but apparently he doesn’t need the massive estate for those quick trips.

★ The “Saved By the Bell” reboot came under fire recently after the show included references to Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant. The show garnered so much criticism for the references that “Respect Selena Gomez” became a trending topic on Twitter on Saturday. In response, Peacock, NBCUniversal, and the show’s executive producers released a statement, saying: “We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.”

★ “Goonies never say die,” and the cast is still going strong 35 years later. The stars of the movie are getting together once again for a virtual reunion. The free event, featuring Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Martha Plimpton, Corey Feldman and more, will support “No Kid Hungry” and their efforts to help those in need during the pandemic. This will be the second time the cast of the 1985 classic has reunited this year. A number of them, along with Cyndi Lauper, who sang the theme song, appeared on the web series “Reunited With Josh Gad”. The latest Goonies reunion will take place this Saturday.

• Miley Cyrus — released her new album “Plastic Hearts” on Friday, featuring collaborations with Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett and Billy Idol. Jett can be heard on ‘Bad Karma’ while Idol turns up on the duet ‘Night Crawling’. ‘Midnight Sky’, featuring Nicks, was released last month.
• Megan Thee Stallion – denies stealing a dress design for her “Fashion Nova” collection. She released her eponymous line with the online retailer last month, raking in more than $1.2 million in 24 hours, but has been hit with allegations from a designer who accused her of directly copying one of her dresses.
• Snoop Dogg — has once again joined forces with food delivery company Just Eat, and his new Christmas song ‘Doggy Dogg Christmas’ will be featured in the company’s 2020 Christmas ad, which begins airing today.
• Van Halen — Canadian documentarian Sam Dunn says he would love to make the “definitive” documentary about the band. Quote: “Van Halen, for me, has always been a bit of a Holy Grail story, particularly the David Lee Roth years.” Dunn has directed films on Rush, ZZ top and Iron Maiden, among others.
• Elton John – told an interviewer that he owns “over 120,000 CDs and 15,000 pieces of vinyl”, all stored at his home so he can “access whatever I want, whenever I want.” What was his first album? A Doris Day record his mother bought him after he had a tooth pulled.
• Oasis — Liam Gallagher wants to end his feud with estranged brother Noel by taking part in the TV show “The Great British Bake Off”. He says: “Maybe we’ll just bake some bread and that, or a cake, or throw strawberries at each other. Have a cream fight. That kind of stuff.” The two have been at odds since Oasis split in 2009. (Well, actually, forever…)
• David Bowie – The film “Stardust” has angered some fans, but director Gabriel Range says much of it comes down to viewers unfairly comparing it to recent Queen and Elton John biopics. Quote: “I hope rather than being a sing-along, (“Stardust”) tells you something that you actually didn’t know … It is a quiet, intimate film about a young man setting out on a journey as a performer.”
• Vince Gill – understands how Eagles fans feel when they say the band isn’t the same without the late Glenn Frey. Quote: “I don’t sing like Glenn, and I don’t pretend to…It’s my favorite band, too. I don’t want to hear me sing ‘New Kid in Town,’ but the other option is not possible. So, I’m just trying to do my part to keep some great songs afloat.”
• Garth Brooks – There is no song #13 on his new “Fun” album, and it has nothing to do with superstition. While there are 14 songs on the album, track 13 is actually two seconds of nothing. Track 12 is ‘Where the Cross Don’t Burn’ featuring Charley Pride, and Brooks explained that he wanted a moment of silence after the song for listeners to absorb it.
IT TAKES MORE THAN GOOD FENCES TO MAKE GOOD NEIGHBORS:
The benefits of having good neighbors extend to even after you sell your house and move away, according to an analysis of property values. Property experts PriceYourJob.co.uk say that selling a house in an area with tidy and well-kept neighboring properties could add £20,000 (US $26,700) to the value of your home. In their investigation of the impact of good neighbors on property values, they surveyed homeowners to determine which curb appeal features people would be willing to pay a premium for. 75% of respondents said they’d be willing to pay extra for neighbors with a well-kept yard. A well-kept driveway was worth more money to 67%, while the rest of the top-five things that people were willing to pay more money for were: No overflowing trash bins (58%), Bins out of sight (56%), and no construction work (51%).

It’s what some would consider a dream job, and to others it might be the 9th circle of Hallmark Hell, but one company is offering to pay someone to watch seasonal films, AND they’ll throw in a year’s worth of streaming from seven different services. Reviews.org is looking for a “Chief Holiday Cheermeister”, whose job will be to watch 25 festive films of their choice in 25 days, and fill out a short survey afterwards. It is a paying gig, but not well-paying. The successful applicant will net $2,500 for their efforts, plus those free streaming subscriptions.

How about some good news? New research says hot chocolate makes you smarter, and a faster thinker. In a study of 18 men, researchers at the University of Birmingham found that drinking cocoa improved participants’ ability to quickly solve a series of complex mental tests. How so? The scientists chalk it up to the brain-boosting compound flavanol, which is found naturally in chocolate. They found that after drinking hot chocolate, participants’ blood oxygenation levels increased up to threefold, and that their test times and accuracy rates improved by about 11%. But before you go all-in on clearing out the hot chocolate section of your local supermarket in time for exams, note this: Flavanols are also extremely common in a wide range of fruit and vegetables.

The world’s deepest pool opened in Poland last month. “Deepspot” has a depth of 148 feet (45 metres) and a water volume equivalent to 27 times that of an average 25m public swimming pool. Deepspot, which took 2 years to build, is set up as a diving school, but is also open to the public, and includes an underwater tunnel, restaurants and hotel rooms overlooking the pool.
