BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Shane MacGowan, the frontman and founder of the Irish Celtic punk band The Pogues, died yesterday at age 65. In a statement, his family said he “died peacefully” at 3am with his wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, and other loved ones by his side. MacGowan is the songwriter behind the seasonal classic ‘Fairytale of New York’ and fronted The Pogues on and off from 1982 until the band split in 2014. He battled addiction and multiple health issues, sharing shared last year that he had been diagnosed with encephalitis, which the Mayo Clinic defines as inflammation of the brain.

★ The Kardashian/Jenner clan are definitely one of the most famous families in Hollywood, but according to Kim Kardashian, their success was a total fluke. On the season 4 finale of “The Kardashians,” which aired yesterday, the family gathered to celebrate Scott Disick’s 40th birthday. Kris Jenner noted that she’s known Disick for “most of [his] adult life.”, pointing out that he was “literally here episode 1” of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” Didick joked in response that he felt the show was “going nowhere”. To which Kimmy K reponded by saying: “Guys, we scammed the system. We did it! Whatever it is, we figured it out and did it!” But she hastened to point out that the family also “put in some hard work.”

★ Timothée Chalamet’s highly-anticipated “Charlie and the Charlie Factory” prequel musical “Wonka” has finally been unveiled to critics, and first reactions are that it is a “winning confection” and “an instant holiday classic.” Wonka, directed by “Paddington” filmmaker Paul King, casts Chalamet as a younger iteration of the famous chocolatier. The film is set years before Wonka opens his chocolate factory and follows the young man as he fights to open his first shop. Critic Courtney Howard wrote “Wonka” is “a winning confection, filled with perfect amounts of charm, whimsy & poignancy”, and called Chalamet “a charisma factory”. Gizmodo called Chalamet infinitely charming & a blast to watch,” but added: “The movie around him isn’t as good but it’s enjoyable.” Wonka opens Dec. 8.

★ Zack Snyder is hanging up his cape when it comes to superhero movies. The filmmaker behind “Watchmen”, “Man of Steel”, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, and “Justice League” said in a new interview that he no longer has “excitement” for the genre, though he noted that there are a few stories he’d consider tackling should his pal James Gunn — or Marvel — come calling. In the revamped DC world, Snyder said he’d be game for a “Dark Knight Returns” adaptation. On the Marvel side, Snyder said he’d consider directing a ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Elektra’ movie — specifically, an adaptation of “Elektra Lives Again” — “But that’s it”.

★ “Bob Hearts Abisola” will officially be coming to an end after its upcoming 5th season. Quote: “The only thing good…was the chorus, and [it] just was like, ‘Hold your breath and get through the verse.’” Later, the producer coaxed her into trying “a pitch machine.” That pitch machine was the Auto-Tune software that Believe pioneered, now standard practice for many stars.
• Pearl Jam — drummer Matt Cameron has confirmed their next album is completed. He said in a podcast appearance that the LP is “in the can, mastered, mixed, ready to go”, and he expects it to be released in 2024. The band used producer Andrew Watt, who also oversaw the latest Rolling Stones album, and has worked with Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Ozzy Osbourne.

MAC N’… NOTHING?
Kraft has a new style of its classic pasta in a box on the way…but you can’t honestly call it “Mac & Cheese”. For the first time ever, the household staple is going plant-based. The new version of the boxed favorite, which is labelled “Plant-based Mac & Cheese”, with a sub label reading: “Not Cheese”, contains a dairy-free alternative to its signature cheese. Also known as “Kraft NotMac&Cheese”, it will soon roll out on grocery store shelves in 2 flavors — original and white cheddar with shells — each priced at $3.49 per box. Oh, and by the way those flavors are actually labelled ‘cheese’ and ‘white cheddar’ “STYLE”, because…you know…no cheese!
(So they finally managed to take away the only natural thing in the whole box?)
(So you say to yourself: “OK, $3.49 is a lot to pay, but I guess I’m OK with it, because it’s vegan. Then you realize you also have to shell out for plant-based milk…and plant-based butter?)

CHECKING THINGS OUT:
When you stay in a budget or mid-level hotel, you might help yourself to the travel sized lotions or the coffee packets and think nothing of it – but did you ever wonder what people tend to take from the really fancy hotels? Wellness Heaven, a German spa and luxury hotel guide, surveyed over 1,300 hotel managers to determine what items are most commonly stolen by guests at 5-star hotels. It may come as no surprise that the clientele at these places enjoy being pampered, and that may be why towels and bathrobes came out on top as the most popular items to pilfer at top-flight hotels. Of course, guests also snuck out hangers, pillows, cosmetics, batteries and cutlery from their rooms, but it was found that guests at 5-star hotels also seem to like to bring the fancy coffee machine along with them when they check out. Shockingly, fancy hotels were also more likely to be the victims of an art heist, being about 4 times more likely to have a picture taken off a wall. Computer tablets are another commonly-stolen item, as are TVs and (get ready for it) mattresses. (Those are probably most often taken out in the middle of the night, FYI.) One hotelier in Italy even reported that a grand piano was stolen from the lobby…during the daytime…in plain sight.
(Judging by some of the piano-playing catastrophes I’ve witnesses in hotel nightclubs, those guys were doing everyone a favor!)
(So…me taking the leftover shampoo and a few pens…not so bad?)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ Sanitation workers in New Hampshire started digging through 20 tons of garbage to locate a woman’s lost wedding ring. Windham General Services Director Dennis Senibaldi said he heard from the distraught woman, who was able to help narrow the search by providing info, such as at what time her husband threw the trash out, what was in the bag, etc. He reviewed surveillance footage to try to pinpoint the location of the woman’s trash. And by the time the real search began, Senibaldi said: “I knew where exactly on the floor it was, but it’s still a lot of stuff to go through. His team had to dig through 12 feet of trash bags before finding the right one, but they managed to find the ring 2 hours after the search began. He personally called the woman to tell her to come pick it up – after he had cleaned it up for her. According to the sanitation manager: “She was heartbroken on Wednesday and more than ecstatic on Friday.” (Oh. So, you’re saying some women lose their wedding ring BY MISTAKE?)
➢ A couple in China were horrified to learn that they had been drinking toilet water for 6 months, after moving into their new apartment. The man, referred to as Mr. Tan by local media, and his unidentified girlfriend began experiencing strange health issues shortly after their move in May. When Tan realized he hadn’t paid a water bill in 6 months, but continued to receive water – he became suspicious. A plumber made the shocking discovery that an extra pipe that had gone unnoticed linked the toilet and tap water pipes – confirming that for 6 months, the couple had been using toilet water for drinking, bathing, and cooking. Tan is seeking monetary compensation from the rental firm. (His dog was quoted as saying: “I’m not sure what the problem is…”)

DID YOU KNOW?
A UK food truck owner has unveiled what must be one of the world’s most calorific burgers, with a bun made of 8 Krispy Kreme donuts. In addition to the donuts, the burger features 3 beef patties and 6 slices of cheese slathered in melted butter. Tom Warwick said of his heart-clogging concoction: “Everyone loves a donut burger but I wanted to go bigger and better.” He operates the food truck “Meat Castles” in Retford, Nottinghamshire. The burger contains 3,180 calories — the equivalent of 6 Big Macs — or more than the total number of calories an adult human should consume in a day. (More sugar, too, I’m guessing!)
