BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Prince Philip will no longer be getting behind the wheel. Three weeks after his Jan. 17 car crash, Buckingham Palace has announced that the 97-year-old has “voluntarily” decided to give up his driver’s license. A statement released on Saturday says, “After careful consideration, The Duke of Edinburgh has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving licence.”  The news that Philip would be surrendering his license came two weeks after he sent an apology letter to a woman who suffered a broken wrist from the crash.
(Wasn’t it his childhood friend Winston Churchill who said, “We shall never surrender…?”)

★ A statue of David Beckham will be unveiled outside LA Galaxy’s stadium in March. The retired soccer star played for the team for six years after joining them in 2007, and his efforts will be recognized with the construction of a statue at Dignity Health Sports Park. It will be officially unveiled on March 2, when the Galaxy will host their first game of the new MLS season.

★ Les Moonves, who was fired by CBS over claims of sexual misconduct, has created three new companies under the banner “Moon Rise.” The filing indicates the entities will provide services for film and TV production, plus streaming services and distribution. Under the former CEO’s separation agreement in September, CBS is required to pay for an office for Moonves, so it is presumably footing the bill for Moon Rise’s Los Angeles headquarters. This comes while Moonves is still in a legal dispute over a $120 million severance he says he is owed, but CBS has said it will not pay.

★ Another long-term star of “The Walking Dead” will be leaving the show. “Variety” is reporting that Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne, has signed a deal that will see her finish out the current ninth season and appear in some episodes of season 10 before she exits the series. The show recently saw the departure of Gurira’s character’s love interest Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ariana Grande — has “promised” to write an album about Buzz Aldrin. She replied to the former astronaut on Twitter after he asked if she would write a song about him, telling the 89-year-old that she would be happy to dedicate a whole album to him.  The exchange occurred after NASA noticed that her new song ‘NASA’ was trending.
• Mac Miller – New legal docs state that a “portion” of his estate is worth more than $4.48 million. That is the sum of various checking, savings and money market accounts … as well as 200 shares of Facebook stock worth more than $32k. He died in September.
• Katy Perry – was among those who celebrated Dolly Parton as she was honored as MusiCares’ Person of the Year. Perry joined with Kacey Musgraves for a sassy rendition of ‘Here You Come Again’. The Friday event at the Los Angeles Convention Center also featured Pink’s version of ‘Jolene’ and Parton’s goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, joining Mark Ronson and Shawn Mendes for ‘Islands in the Stream’.
• Guns N’ Roses – have been vague about whether or not they will record new material, but guitarist Richard Fortus has confirmed that they have plans to go into the studio, possibly as soon as next month.  He says when Slash’s current tour ends, “We’re gonna get some more recording done and hopefully get an album out soon. And then we’ll get back to touring.”
• Lindsey Buckingham – The former Fleetwood Mac guitarist/singer suffered vocal-cord damage during emergency open-heart surgery last week. He is recovering at home. His wife Kristen said in a statement that “While it is unclear if the damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.”
• Dan + Shay – Dan Smyers said backstage at Grammys rehearsals that the pair are “huge Travis Scott fans”, and he is the performer that they were most excited to see.
• Blake Shelton — has shared the latest trailer for his upcoming film “UglyDolls”. The new trailer also features his “The Voice” rival Kelly Clarkson, who also has a role in the movie.  It will be released in theaters May 3.

SICKER QUICKER:
You have definitely heard the old saying: “Beer before wine, you’ll be fine; wine before beer, sick for a year.” Well, a new study has found that the order of beverages has no effect on the severity of a hangover.  Researchers from Witten/Herdecke University in Germany carried out tests on 90 students, giving them beer and wine in different orders. The next day, they were asked to rate the severity of their hangover symptoms, such as fatigue, dizziness, thirst and nausea. The findings show that the order of the drinks consumed had no significant effect on hangover intensity.  Instead, the study’s authors said the strongest predictors for the severity of the next day’s hangover were the participants’ perception of how drunk they were the night before and whether or not they vomited.
(And whether they “diluted” things with a pizza at 3AM…)
(How on earth were they able to find 90 university students willing to participate in a study like that?)
(I’d be much more concerned about the immediate effects of mixing my drinks like that…)

(DON’T) LET THEM EAT PASTE:
Many children are using so much toothpaste when they brush that it’s unhealthy, according to the Centers for Disease Prevention.  Although the American Dental Association recommends that kids between 3-6 years of age should use no more than a pea-size dollop of toothpaste, a CDC study found that nearly 40 per cent of children in that age group use more.  Children younger than 3 should use only a smear the size of a grain of rice. Brushing with too much toothpaste can actually damage enamel, because children could swallow too much fluoride while their teeth are developing.  That can cause white marks and discoloration of teeth.
(The easy answer here is to tell kids that toothpaste is a vegetable…)
(And how much toothpaste do they suggest for someone trying to hide “cigar-smell” from their wife?  Asking for a friend…)
(That couldn’t have anything to do with the commercials that show people using so much toothpaste that you can’t see the bristles, could it?)

SPEND VALENTINE’S DAY LIKE A MULTIMILLIONAIRE FOR $30 OR LESS:
Cost-effective ideas inspired by celebrity gestures of holidays past . . .
Instead of Kanye West’s wall of rosesHe has a history of buying walls of roses for Kim, which can cost $2,395 — $100,000. You can buy an artificial succulent for $9.99 from IKEA. You can even add a sweet note like, “You make life succ(k) less”. (Because what would really suck is having to figure out what to do with a literal wall of dying roses).
➢ Instead of Cardi B’s custom Rolls Royce:  She bought her husband Offset a brand-new custom Rolls Royce, worth 450,000 — $600,000.  You could plan a scenic drive while listening to a romantic playlist.  (After the drive, watch “2 Fast 2 Furious”!)
➢ Instead of John Legend’s giant cheese wheel:  That’s what he bought his wife Chrissy Teigen for Christmas in 2015. That’s around $2,500 worth of cheese. You could make a fancy cheese board at home for with Trader Joe’s Unexpected Cheddar for $3.99.  (That’s a little more along the lines of what I “expected” to pay…)
➢ Instead of Angelina Jolie’s olive tree:  She reportedly gave Brad Pitt a 200-year-old olive tree for Valentine’s Day in 2010. It cost $18,500.  Rather than giving your Valentine the responsibility of keeping an olive tree alive, just make him or her an olive martini.  (After two, he’ll never know the difference!)
➢ Instead of Katy Perry’s lilac Bentley:  In 2010, she bought Russell Brand a $341,000 lilac Bentley for Valentine’s Day. A store-brand alternative is to upgrade your regular ride-share. Grab an UberXL to dinner for about $20, depending on distance.
➢ Instead of Tom Cruise’s Gulfstream jet:  In 2005, he reportedly bought Katie Holmes a $20 million Gulfstream jet. You know what’s a good gift? Canceled plans. Tell your Valentine you need to wake up early for brunch.  When they wake up, say “Just kidding! We’re drinking mimosas in our PJs all day.” (Did you just feel a cold draft?)
➢ Justin Beiber’s one-day rental of the Staples Center:  In 2011, he rented it for about $110,000 so he and Selena Gomez could watch “Titanic”.  Yes, that sounds like something a teenager with too much money would do. Instead, do something your teenage-self would’ve enjoyed:  Get drinks and go to the romance section of a book store, and enjoy tipsily giggling at the back cover of soft-core books. (Plus, no-one has to put up with Bieber all day!)
(Is it just me, or does it seem like most of those extravagant gifts caused a breakup?)

The El Paso Zoo is offering jilted lovers the chance to name a cockroach after an ex, then have it fed it to a meerkat live on camera.  The “Quit Bugging Me” event, which will live-stream on Facebook and the zoo’s website on Feb. 14, is being called “The perfect Valentine’s Day gift” by the zoo.
