BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ What caused the ‘Kimye’ breakup? Kanye West believes his controversial 2020 presidential run was the tipping point in his marriage to Kim Kardashian, according to a source. She filed for divorce on Friday after nearly 7 years of marriage. Their union originally hit crisis mode last summer, at the height of West’s erratic behavior. His public outbursts began in July, after he launched his bid for president of the US and divulged deeply personal details about his family and marriage on the campaign trail and on Twitter. The source told People that West has been “texting people” and “talking things through.”
★ This year’s Golden Globes is starting to look like date night. Celeb couples Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, and Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon will be among the presenters at this Sunday’s ceremony. The Globes, which is collaborating with Feeding America this year, will be bicoastal for the first time, with Tina Fey hosting from New York and Amy Poehler from Beverly Hills. Jane Fonda will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for outstanding contributions in entertainment. She’s won Golden Globes for her roles in “Klute,” “Julia” and “Coming Home.”

★ The battle for Larry King’s estate is on. The late broadcaster’s estranged wife, Shawn King, is contesting a secret will that leaves his estimated $2 million estate to his children — and a legal expert says she has a good shot at winning. She went to court to oppose her stepson Larry King Jr.’s emergency petition to become a special administrator of the estate. Earlier this month, Larry Jr. submitted a handwritten will from his father dated Oct. 17, 2019, that left his estate to his 5 children. Her lawyers say it may have been written under questionable circumstances. The former CNN host died in January after contracting sepsis.

★ Rachel McAdams has signed on to star in a film adaptation of the beloved Judy Blume novel “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret”. 12-year-old Abby Ryder Fortson, who starred as Scott Lang’s daughter in the Ant-Man movies, will play the title character in her first lead role. McAdams, who also stars in Marvel movies as ‘Dr. Christine Palmer’ in “Doctor Strange”, will play Margaret’s mother. Production is set to begin in April.

SHOOTING THE BULL
SAY BYE TO DRY EYES:
If you’ve been spending all day in front of a computer like many people during the pandemic, your eyes may be feeling the effects. But here’s some good news: a behavioral optometrist says that our vision should improve as our lives get back to ‘normal’, after the worst of the pandemic. Bhavin Shah, who also works as a myopia (near-sightedness) management consultant in London, UK, believes that many people have overworked their eyes, and they could use some recovery time. He has seen an increase in patients experiencing eyestrain, fatigue, and tired and blurry eyes, but says the simple acts of commuting to work and working in an office atmosphere allows for more breaks and natural eyes movements and focusing. This will allow our eyes to get the rest and recovery time they need, and from there, things should definitely start to “look up.”
(Great. So, my eyes are going to pop back into shape…can he do anything about this belly button flopping over the top of my pants?)
(And THIS, dear boss, is why my eyes always look red when we have a Zoom call! Honest…)
(In the meantime, I’m OK with it, because I’ve DEFINITELY seen enough of my family…)

FACE MASK FACT:
A potentially ground-breaking new study is suggesting that wearing face masks may actually lessen COVID-19 symptoms, should the wearer be unfortunate enough to catch the disease. Researchers from the National Institutes of Health in the US say the humidity generated inside a face mask helps combat respiratory diseases. Wearing a mask increases the levels of humidity in inhaled air. High humidity levels make it harder for viruses to spread in the lungs. It also causes the immune system to create special virus-fighting proteins called interferons.
(Yeah, I’m pretty sure that anything subjected to (co-host’s) breath all day is going to be drastically weakened!)
(Ummm…but aren’t these the same dudes who told us that if we wear a mask, we wouldn’t get COVID at all?)

GETTING INK BACK:
The friends and family of a deceased tattoo artist are trying to get his skin back. Before Chris Wenzel passed away in 2018, he asked that his ink-adorned skin be removed before he was buried, so his family could keep it as a memento. They kept the fragments at “Electric Underground”, the tattoo shop he founded in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After the shop went bankrupt last year, a property company seized what was inside the store – including Chris Wenzel’s tattoos. An online fundraiser has been started in an attempt to get the shop’s contents back. According to Wenzel’s niece, Nicole Ballantyne, some family members still refer to the collection of preserved skin as “Chris”.
(Did the guy never hear of a “selfie”?)
(I’ve heard of tattoo aftercare…but never quite like this!)

TALKIN’ TIKTOK:
Last week’s viral “Center of Gravity” challenge on TikTok is just the latest in a long line of crazy and sometimes dangerous “competitions” on the social media site. Here are some low-lights…with a serious warning: Please DO NOT try these at home…
⇒ DIY vampire fangs: Last Halloween saw holiday revelers supergluing costume vampire fangs to their teeth, using Suer Glue, nail glue and other adhesives, and, of course, struggling to remove them. Dentists advised against it, pointing out the fact that nail glue “is poisonous and won’t come off.”
⇒ Tooth filing: This challenge involved various knuckleheads attempting to fix their uneven smiles by using a nail file to sand their snack slicers down to size. Dentists didn’t like this one either, noting the “irreparable damage” it could do to teeth.
⇒ Face wax challenge: Covering a “patient’s” face — including their eyes — with gloopy green wax, and even using wax-dipped Q-Tips stuck in their noses to extract pesky nasal hairs. Then the “beautician” peels the beauty batter off the subject’s face in one piece like a slasher villain mask. Yup, the experts say it’s traumatic for the skin…especially around the eyes (and in the nose!).
⇒ Corn cob challenge: Enterprising TikTokkers tried to accelerate their corn consumption by eating a cob affixed to a spinning drill bit. Then rapper Jason Derulo chipped a tooth while performing the “challenge”.
⇒ Cereal challenge: Where a person pours milk and cereal into the open mouth of a person lying down and then eats breakfast from the human “bowl.” Sometimes, things got messy, but it also is a potential choking hazard for the volunteer “bowl”.
⇒ Pee your pants challenge: You got it…one guy did it, and quickly racked up almost 4 million views. Then hundreds of others copied his idea. (THAT’S not a challenge…that’s a Saturday night!)
⇒ (***CAUTION***) Erection cream pout plumper: Yes, this involves using the aforementioned “privates” product on the lips. While it does seem to be effective, more than a few influencers found it was not worth the burning sensation that came along with it. Doctors said it could cause sores, blisters…and possible heart problems. (Talk about a stiff upper lip!)
(Yes, humanity HAS hit TOK bottom…)
(Please! NO Gorilla Glue challenges!)

DID YOU KNOW?
It may not have been an asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. A new study suggests the object that hit the Earth 65 million years ago could have been a fragment of a comet, torn off as the comet travelled too close to the sun. Harvard University researchers determined that comets from the Oort Cloud — a theorized collection of icy comets orbiting the sun 3 light years away — that were sent too close to the sun by Jupiter’s gravitational pull could fracture and shower Earth with debris big enough to wipe out entire species. Why does this matter? The study also found if this is what killed off 75% of all life on Earth, there’s a higher likelihood that such a collision could happen again.
