There’s a Difference Between Sheet and Crapola!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
TONIGHT the scheduled 35-city national tour for “Canadian Idol” winner Melissa O’Neil with runner-up Rex Goudie kicks-off at the Capitol Centre in North Bay ON . . . 20-year-old 2005 ACanadian Idol@ contestant Elena Juatco, who finished 6th, will be ACanadian Idol’s@ new roving reporter as the show’s new season hits the road to scout talent beginning SATURDAY at West Edmonton Mall . . . SUNDAY at the “BAFTA Awards” (British Academy of Film & Television Arts) in London, “The Constant Gardener” leads nominations with a total of 10 . . . A California appeals court has overturned Michael Jackson’s claim that his former wife/baby carrier Debbie Rowe has relinquished her parental rights (that’ll hold a lot of sway in Bahrain or wherever the hell he’s hiding out these days) . . . Former Olympic medal-winning pairs skater Lloyd Eisler has started a romance with his “Skating With Celebrities” co-star Kristy Swanson, apparently pulling a ‘K-Fed’ – dumping his pregnant wife while she was 8-months pregnant . . . All “American Idol 5″ contestants have a contract banning them from signing with any talent agency, and also from recording, songwriting, acting, modeling and/or merchandising for 3 months after the final winner is announced (you might call it the ‘William Hung Rule’) . . . Legendary French movie star Brigitte Bardot has delivered a 200,000-signature petition calling on the Canadian government to abolish the annual seal hunt . . . “The West Wing” has filmed a funeral for VP candidate ‘Leo McGarry’, who was played by late actor John Spencer until he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest last DECEMBER (the episode airs in APRIL) . . . The new “Us Weekly” claims the hot ‘n heavy relationship between Jessica Simpson & Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine began before she officially split from Nick Lachey . . . Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie are reportedly looking to buy a home in France to add to their real estate in the US & UK, because celebrities are able to lead relatively paparazzi-free lives there (yeah, just ask Princess Di) . . . Ratings for NBC-TV’s coverage of “Winter Olympics” may be down from the Salt Lake City Games 4 years ago, but they’ve still been strong enough to put the network in 1st place in overall numbers for the first time in nearly 2 years (despite being whipped by “American Idol” … and “Grey’s Anatomy” … and “Desperate Housewives” … and “House” – wait a sec, who the heck is watching, anyway?).

HURTIN’ MAD:
A new University of Missouri-Columbia study suggests angry people are more likely to suffer injuries serious enough to require emergency medical care. Workplace injuries, in particular,  are more likely to occur as the result of anger. The research also suggests the risk is higher for men than for women. (For proof, just watch for flying clubs at any golf course.)
– “USA Today”

HARD TO BELIEVE:
A 42-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter have each had babies 90 minutes apart, assisted by the same nurses in the same delivery room at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah. (Does Hallmark make ‘Happy Mother’s Day, Grandma’ cards?)

FEATHER FEST:
Remember ‘flash mobbing’, the supposed ‘big fad’ of 2003 that turned out not to be? Well, it seems it’s not dead yet. THIS WEEK roughly 1,000 people drawn by Internet postings and word-of-mouth converged near San Francisco CA’s Ferry Building for a half-hour – pillow fight. A member of a mysterious group called the ‘Pillow Fight Club’ says the event was a meme  (pronounced ‘meem’) – a thought that goes out and becomes part of consciousness. Alrighty then.
– “San Francisco Chronicle”

MENTORS MORE MEANINGFUL:
A new study suggests that women benefit more from role-models than men. University of Waterloo psychology professor Dr Penelope Lockwood thinks that may be because role models are important to women to provide an antidote to stereotypes that might threaten their career performance. She says having a female role model with a similar career path can boost a woman’s self-esteem. (The reason Pam Anderson is popular?)

TOADYING UP DOWN UNDER:
Forget ‘bird flu’, what’s scaring the heck out of many Aussies is a plague of – toads. The Toxic Cane Toad was first introduced to Australia from South America in 1935 in an attempt to wipe out cane beetles, a pest that was destroying sugar crops. But now the toads are turning into an eco-nightmare, killing many indigenous animals like snakes, lizards, water birds, even crocodiles & dingos. The toads secrete poison carried in sacs behind the head which is lethal to potential predators within minutes of being ingested. What’s worrying environmentalists is that the species is evolving into a larger (5-lb), leggier, and faster-moving form that is now hopping rapidly across the continent. (Is anyone working on a movie script yet?)
