BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
***[UPDATE]*** ★ King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, Buckingham Palace has announced. It is not prostate cancer, but was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate. The type of cancer has not been revealed, but the palace said the King began “regular treatments” on Monday. The King “remains wholly positive about his treatment”. He will postpone his public engagements, but “looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible”, the palace said.

★ Justin Timberlake is reportedly thinking of doing a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in the wake of his feud with his ex Britney Spears. He was accused of mocking Spears last week at his birthday concert, when he said he had no one to apologize to, before launching into his hit ‘Cry Me a River’, which is said to be about her. Now, a source says he wants to use a chat with Winfrey, to publicly address the fallout of his fresh spat with Spears. Last year Spears claimed in her book that she had an abortion while they were dating, because he “didn’t want to be a father”.

★ Get set for “Bridgerton” Season 3. More than a year after the 2nd season of the hit historical fiction-romance series debuted, the show is set to return in May, and Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the next chapter. The upcoming season will jump ahead to the 4th book in Julia Quinn’s series, “Romancing Mister Bridgerton” focusing on the budding romance between ‘Penelope’ and ‘Colin’. The sneak peek clip teases plenty of chemistry between the pair, with Penelope telling Colin, “Your eyes… a most remarkable shade of blue. And yet somehow they shine even brighter when you are kind.” LINK: http://tinyurl.com/4vxxjnb9

★ Jeremy Renner is all good with the idea of making a return to the MCU at ‘Hawkeye’. Reflecting on his accident over a year after he sustained 30 broken bones after being run over by a snowplow, Renner said he is able to do “probably 90% of all the things” he needs to be doing, and is willing to do whatever it takes to get stronger. When asked specifically about reprising his role as Hawkeye, Renner said: “I’m always game. I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready.”

★ “Saltburn” and “Euphoria” star Jacob Elordi is being accused of assaulting a reporter known for his social media stunts. The actor is said to have been involved in an altercation outside a hotel in Sydney, Australia, after he returned to his homeland for the AACTA Awards on Feb. 10. Elordi was reportedly approached by the host who “frustrated” with questions. Police say a 32-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a 26-year-old man, who “did not sustain any injuries.” The investigation is ongoing.

★ “Saturday Night Live” has announced that Shane Gillis, the comedian who, moments after being hired, was fired from the show, will host the Feb. 24 episode. In 2019, Gillis was one of 3 new additions announced for SNL‘s 45th season. But within hours, Twitter was flooded with questionable clips from Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast — which Gillis co-hosted — in which he used a racist slur to describe people living in New York City’s Chinatown. He was then fired. 21 Savage will be musical guest on Feb. 24.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift – Even the Japanese Embassy in Washington is rooting for her to make it to Vegas in time to see Travis Kelce play in the Super Bowl. On social media, it wrote: “If she departs Tokyo in the evening after her concert, she should comfortably arrive in Las Vegas before the Super Bowl begins.” One problem: The 4 airports in the area have a total of 475 plane parking spots – and they’re all reserved.
• Demi Lovato – is catching some heat for performing her hit ‘Heart Attack’ Thursday at the America Heart Association’s cardiovascular disease event. A TikTok recapping the “Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection” concert has over 2 million views, and thousands of comments from fans criticizing the song choice. One person wrote it “feels like something that would’ve happened on Parks & Rec”. LINK: http://tinyurl.com/3j2mh7rs
• Boygenius – may have just called it quits. Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker made the announcement during 2 “secret” acoustic shows in LA late last week. Although they haven’t confirmed anything on social media, they said to their audience: “This is our last show, and we’re feeling it.” LINK: http://tinyurl.com/3v4cv2j7
• Goo Goo Dolls – have dropped the new single ‘Beautiful Lie’. Vocalist/guitarist John Rzeznik calls it “a departure” from their most recent album, 2022’s “Chaos In Bloom. Quote: “It’s a simple song, very chill. It felt fresh to me.” They are spending much of this month touring Australia with Matchbox 20. LINK: http://tinyurl.com/2r3n5hjm
• AC/DC – Their ‘Back in Black’ video has officially topped a billion views on YouTube. The clip, which was uploaded to YouTube in 2012, is the group’s second song to reach the milestone. ‘Thunderstruck’ hit one billion views in 2021.
• Lainey Wilson – Friday, she made a stop in LA to testify before Congress. She spoke during a House Subcommittee meeting about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence. Wilson was the target of a falsified campaign in 2023, which used her likeness in ads for weight loss gummies.
• Kenny Chesney – has dropped the new song ‘Just to Say We Did’. His new album “BORN” arrives March 29. Its lead single ‘Take Her Home’ is currently approaching the top 20. LINK: http://tinyurl.com/3suptena
• Luke Bryan – Tickets go on sale Friday for his newly-announced “Mind of a Country Boy Tour”. Chayce Beckham and Tenille Arts will open the first show in April, but a total of 15 newcomers and established artists will open for him across the tour, lasting through Sept. 14. SHOOTING THE BULL
AN HONEST LEAP DAY’S WORK FOR AN HONEST LEAP DAY’S PAY:
It’s a leap year, so you may be wondering: With Feb. 29 falling on a regular workday (a Thursday), does that mean I’m going to be making a little more money this year? Or am I working for free that day? The answer, like so many other things, is this: It depends. The leap year is good news for you if you’re paid hourly. By working on Feb. 29, you should be paid for the extra day this month, meaning if you’re paid for all actual hours worked, you’ll come out ahead. Salaried employees who are paid on a weekly or bi-weekly basis should also be paid for the extra day. However, some salaried employees are paid monthly or semi-monthly – once on the 15th and once on the last day. They might be out of luck, according to experts, unless their employment contract specifically says otherwise. And further rubbing salt in the wound is this: Salaried employees who make minimum wage could actually make less than minimum wage over the course of the year if they have to work on the leap day.
(Ouch. Plus, it’s another day that I have to pay to park!)
(…but on the plus side, I’ll have an extra day before I miss another car payment!)

A BETTER “BEST BEFORE”:
How would you like to know how long those bananas or strawberries are going to last – BEFORE you buy them? A new device is being used in some British supermarkets that scans fruit and detects the molecular level of freshness, then makes a precise calculation on how many days that piece of fruit has until it no longer can be enjoyed. How in the heck does it do that? By penetrating a strawberry, or avocado, or other fruit with light, algorithms detect the levels of water, sugars, and other compounds. Once an expiration date is determined, suppliers and retailers can make judgment calls about the best use for it. The company is called OneThird, a reference to the fact that one-third of food produced by humans tends to be wasted. It is currently capable of determining the shelf life of strawberries, tomatoes, avocados, and blueberries, and a coming update will allow it to analyze grapes, bananas, mangoes, and raspberries. And while at this point, the machine is only available to supermarket staff, as well as at distribution centers, we can hope that one day, the consumer is granted access to them as well.
(It’ll be tough with bananas. For 4 days, it’ll say “Ready tomorrow”, and then suddenly it’ll say: “Yesterday”!)
(You’ll notice they don’t have one of these for something like papaya — because they’re always unfit for human consumption!!)

SUPER BOWL POLL:
It may not come as a surprise to hear this, especially if you’re not much of a football fan, but according to a new survey, the best part of the Super Bowl is NOT the actual game. In fact, almost 2 in 5 people plan to watch 20 minutes or less of the actual game this Sunday. The poll of 2,000 Americans who watch the Super Bowl found that 40% look forward to attending or hosting a party for the big game, but barely spend any time in front of the TV. So, what are they going to be doing? 29% said they spend more time in front of the snacks and food than anywhere else. When asked what’s the best part of the whole occasion, 55% said the half-time show. That was followed, in order, by the commercials (45%), and drinks (40%). And by the way, 9% admit they are unlikely to know which teams are playing before they turn it on this Sunday.
(Well, it’s Taylor Swift, right?)
(I always go in planning to watch the whole thing, but then I tend to get distracted. By food. By drinks. By conversation. Then by sleep!)

SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN WAYS TO MAKE YOURSELF MORE ATTRACTIVE:
Hey, Valentine’s Day is coming…
☞ Wear red: Think passion, roses, heat, and…sex. For this very reason, science has shown that wearing red is one way how to look more attractive. (Yet, for some reason, no one seems to appreciate my red dress shoes…)
☞ Speak in a higher-pitched voice for women, lower for men: Feminine qualities such as a higher voice have been shown to increase men’s sexual attraction to women. The opposite holds true for women, who evolutionarily seek out male mates who are larger in size — and probably have a deeper voice.
☞ Have a sense of humor: Studies have found that both women and men list a sense of humor as a highly desirable trait in a potential romantic partner. (You’d HAVE to have a sense of humor to date (***Afternoon guy***).
☞ Don’t play hard to get: A recent study found that people are more likely to rate others as attractive if they can easily understand the emotions they’re displaying.
☞ Be kind: Go figure! It’s simple. Good people often seem more attractive. (Unless she likes the “bad-boy” type. Then – well, good luck to her!)
☞ Smile more: Alas, this only works if you’re female, according to a University of British Columbia study.
☞ Get a dog: Researchers from France found that women are 3 times more likely to give their number to a dude with a dog, as one without.
☞ Groom yourself: Well, duh. Experts say a large part of physical attraction is centered on the more changeable aspects of our self-presentation.” (Shampoo. It’s your friend!)
☞ Stop stressing: Just like how smiling can make you more attractive, showing signs of stress, like bags under your eyes or dull skin, makes you less attractive.
☞ Grow a beard (Guys, of course!): Biologically, heterosexuals look for typically male or female traits in the opposite sex—the most glaring of which for women is men’s facial hair.
☞ Don’t wear too much makeup: A UK study found that women think men like a lot more makeup than they actually do. Another study also showed that faces with natural makeup were seen favorably — but faces with more dramatic makeup were seen as less trustworthy.
☞ Hang out with friends: People appear more attractive when they’re in a group. This is because we tend to “average out” faces in a group, making less attractive members more so. (And this is why I cannot work out alone!)

DID YOU KNOW?
How would you like to have your favorite song all set to play any time that you need it? What’s known as a “Spotify tattoo” has made that possible. On Spotify, every piece of content has a series of unique sound bars known as a Spotify code, meant for sharing the content, using the camera function on Spotify’s app. Some people are having the code tattooed on their arm or another body part and, when scanned, the song immediately plays. Usually. A Wall Street Journal report says it works best when the tattoo has been done well, and especially when it’s fresh. LINK: http://tinyurl.com/5h9tzmz5
