BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Chadwick Boseman says there’s more excitement surrounding ‘Black Panther’ than there was with the release of the Malcolm X biopic. Boseman says he remembers the “excitement people had seeing ‘Malcolm X’. And this is greater, because it includes other people, too. Everybody comes to see the Marvel movie.” Black Panther features a predominantly black cast, which also includes the likes of Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan, and it has already broken box-office records for a February opening weekend.

★ Hilaria Baldwin says her romance with husband Alec Baldwin is ”no fairy tale”. Hilaria – who is currently pregnant with her fourth child – took to Instagram on Sunday to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the day she and Alec met, and while she gushed over their ”wonderful” five years of marriage, she admitted their life together isn’t always easy. She then joked that the key to their lasting marriage was her husband’s ability to know when his wife is right.

★ Josh Duhamel knows Fergie sings “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” but he also knew she could definitely use a pick-me-up after her national anthem debacle — and Josh delivered.  Fergie’s ex showed up at her house Monday with a bouquet of roses and their 4-year-old son, Axl … pretty much just what the doctor ordered. The uproar over her NBA All-Star Game ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ was so intense that Fergie issued an apology, saying that she loves her country and “honestly tried my best”.

★ You don’t have to read the IMDb description to figure out what ‘Creed II’, the sequel to the Rocky spinoff, is about. All you need to do is look at the movie poster that Rocky Balboa himself, Sylvester Stallone, shared on Instagram. It’s about Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), Apollo Creed’s son, getting ready to fight the son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). The fight heads to theaters Nov. 21.
(If they can get the kids of the band ‘Survivor’ to do the soundtrack, we’ll have ourselves a movie!)

★ Charlize Theron served as honorary starter for The Daytona 500 on Sunday to kick off the NASCAR season. Apparently she thoroughly enjoyed her appearance, because afterward, she posted a pic on Instagram and Twitter, with the caption: “Had such a blast at the Daytona 500! Thanks for having me as your Honorary Starter — hope my flag waving did you proud! At least I didn’t drop it.”

★ Kate Middleton was fighting the clock when she put on her green gown for the BAFTA Awards — instead of black — and her pregnancy made a switch near impossible. Royals expert Katie Nicholl says the Duchess of Cambridge was in a “no-win situation” Sunday with her wardrobe choice. She was criticized for going against the suggested Time’s Up all-black dress code, but Nicholl says Kate’s dress was likely pre-ordered months ago and custom-made with her pregnancy in mind. The dress would have been chosen well before the Time’s Up’s buzz began in late 2017, and would preclude a last-minute wardrobe change.

• Beyoncé – The wedding planner trying to block her attempts to trademark the name ‘Blue Ivy Carter’ allegedly tried to sell Beyoncé the rights to the name for $10 million. Beyonce is currently locked in a legal battle to trademark the name of her and Jay-Z’s eldest child, but Veronica Morals, who owns a wedding planning business called ‘Blue Ivy’, has opposed the filing.
• Fergie – has responded to critics of her poorly received performance of the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star Game, admitting it didn’t quite go as planned. In a statement, she said: “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best”.
• Adam Levine – is a dad again. His wife, Behato Prinsloo gave birth to a girl named Gio Grace Levine. They also have a 16 month-old daughter, Dusty Rose.
• Hedley – will soldier on, despite having been dropped by their management team and blacklisted by scores of radio stations in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations. In a statement, the band said it won’t be cancelling the 23 shows it has booked through March 23 because “the easy thing to do would be to cancel the tour and hide.”
• Smashing Pumpkins – Two days after announcing their reunion tour, they recreated the cover of their 1993 album Siamese Dream with the two original models. In the photo, which the band shared on Instagram, models Ali Laenger and LySandra Roberts wear fairy wings as they joyfully embrace each other, just they did on the original album cover as young children.
• Metallica – are streaming a February 10 performance of the “Master Of Puppets” instrumental, ‘Orion’, from a show in Turin, Italy as a tribute to their late bassist Cliff Burton, who would have been 56 on Feb. 10.
• Foreigner – will release an orchestral live album/DVD April 27. ‘Foreigner with the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Chorus’ features some of their biggest hits and fan favorites recorded live in Switzerland last year with the orchestra and the composing/arranging team of Dave Eggar & Chuck Palmer.
• Randy Bachman – his next album will be a tribute to George Harrison. ‘By George – By Bachman’ will feature mostly Harrison-written songs with different tempos and arrangements, or as Bachman calls it, “new grooves”. It comes out March 2.
• Brett Eldredge – says that before a show, he likes to ‘chill’ with his dog or dance to dumb songs with his band. According to him, the dog is good for relaxing his mind, and dancing to feel “fun and goofy” is good for his performance.
• Kelsea Ballerini – has scored her fourth #1 single with ‘Legends’. Her previous #1s are ‘Love Me Like You Mean It’, ‘Dibs’ and ‘Peter Pan’.

JUST A SECOND:
According to a study, bronze medalists may actually be happier than those who come in second place, if you can believe it. Based on facial expressions in the seconds after the end of a competition, bronze medalists were shown to be visibly happier than those who won the silver. Psychologists say that’s because of expectations. Silver medalists are likely to be somewhat disappointed because they are focusing on the thought that ‘I almost’ won gold, while bronze medalists are more likely to think that they could have gone without a medal at all, so they are more likely to be thinking, “At least” I won a medal.
(Makes sense…like Dale Earnhardt said, “Second place is just the first place loser.”)
(Now, then, how happy is the guy who came in fourth?)

PUTTING THE ‘FUN’ IN FUNERAL:
Some funeral homes are trying to do away with their reputations as a sad and sombre place…by offering party rooms where mourners can raise a drink and toast the life of a loved one…possibly even raise a few drinks. In fact, some American funeral home owners are now describing what they do as equal part funeral director and event planner, allowing mourners the freedom to host ‘open-house’ style funerals, some with access to things like outdoor patios and kitchen facilities. And yes, at least one funeral home in Idaho has applied for a liquor license.
(If they’re renting out their facilities for events, I’m guessing this is the wrong place to bring old Uncle Larry for his 90th birthday!)
(I’ve got news for them…we Irish have been doing it up like this for hundreds of years!)

THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS:
Here is the newest spin on the traditional classroom trip: More and more these days, schools are electing to keep their students in the classroom, and offer up a chance to visit an educational destination via virtual reality. VR class trips offer the opportunity for students to experience the sights and sounds of a destination, without having to deal with the time, expense, and possible danger involved in physically traveling there. Plus, with VR, students have the chance to ‘travel’ to places that they would never get to go on a physical class trip, such as into the deep-sea, into space, or up-front and personal during a surgical procedure.
(Plus, teachers don’t have to worry about chasing down all those signed permission slips!)
(And they don’t have to worry about rain!)
(And we used to be thrilled when the teacher wheeled a film projector into the room!)

THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER PUT ON YOUR CREDIT CARD:
✗ Taxes: Some countries, including the U.S., charge a merchant processing fee of anywhere of up to 2 percent and, if you use third-party filing software, you’ll pay even more. And why would you want to pay hefty interest charges on taxes? Instead get a short-term personal loan or ask the government agency for a payment plan. (Oh, they don’t have to worry about me paying my taxes…uh, with my credit card, I mean!)
✗ College tuition: Don’t ever pay for education with credit, because the interest on student loans is nearly always lower. Plus, large charges such as tuition fees will up your credit utilization ratio, which can result in a ding to your credit score. And colleges and universities often add a processing fee of up to 3 percent for card payments. (Get a student loan, so you have something to do with all your spare money for the next 20 years, just like the rest of us!)
✗ Mortgage installments: Most home-loan lenders won’t let you pay your mortgage by credit card but there are plenty of third parties who will gladly help with that — for a huge fee, of course. (If you need to use plastic to make your payment, it’s time to sell anyway…)
✗ Big-ticket items you can’t really afford: If you can’t pay it off in full by the end of the month, don’t put it on plastic. (If I only bought things I can afford, I’d never buy ANYTHING!)
✗ Stocks and other investments: It’s not only difficult to buy investments such as stocks with credit cards, it’s also a bad idea because there are such high risks involved. (Some people have no sense of adventure!)
(Also, from experience: Never bring your credit card to the bar the night your team wins the big game!)
