Monthly Planning Calendar in Today’s BS!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
“Us Weekly” reports that Hollywood stars Rachel McAdams & Michael Sheen have split after a 3-year relationship that began on the set of  Woody Allen’s “Midnight In Paris” (McAdams may have hinted at the reason last year when she admitted they’d racked up ‘a lot of air miles’ to see one another) . . . Actress Michelle Williams & actor Jason Segel have also reportedly busted up after barely a year of dating (they decided they’re not bi-coastal after all) . . . Britain’s Prince Harry has been snapped spending time with kids during his current charity tour in Africa (instructions from the palace: Keep your clothes ON!) . . . A rep for actress Jennifer Aniston is refuting reports that she’s a ‘diva’ who refuses to eat lunch with her co-workers on the set of her as-yet-untitled new film (it’s cute how people are assuming she eats lunch) . . . And has-been actress Carrie Fisher has been discharged from hospital after suffering a ‘bipolar episode’ aboard a Holland America cruise ship last week when she was reportedly slurring words during her performance, then refused to halt the show when her pet dog relieved himself onstage (these Caribbean cruises are looking more inviting all the time!).

TODAY’S SHOW BIZ SKED:
• “American Idol” (FOX/CTV) – 10 more female singers perform.
• “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC/CityTV) – Ziggy Marley (“Ziggy Marley in Concert”).
• “Last Call With Carson Daly” (NBC) – Ceremony (“Zoo”).
• “Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS/NTV/Omni1) – José James (“No Beginning No End”).
• “Live With Kelly & Michael” (syndicated/CTV) – OneRepublic (“Native”, out March 26th).
• “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC/CTV2) – Shooter Jennings (“The Other Life”, out March 12th).

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Timberlake – He’s confirmed that he’s is working with Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford to create music for the upcoming Coen Bros film “Inside Llewyn Davis”. JT appears in the film, along with Mumford’s wife, actress Carey Mulligan.
• Kanye West – There’s said to be a ‘Kanye-zine’ in the pipeline. Submissions for fiction, non-fiction, and poetry that respond ‘playfully’ to the ‘concept of Kanye’ are being accepted.
• Michael Jackson – Cirque du Soleil will be premiering a new Jackson-themed show this Summer to be called “Michael Jackson ONE”. Previews start at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on May 23rd.
• Pearl Jam – Guitarist Mike McCready tells “Rolling Stone” the band will release a new album by the end of 2013. In a new interview, McCready says the rockers are still working on demos and plan to be recording soon.
• Tenacious D – Tonight Jack Black and Kyle Gass begin a stripped-down acoustic tour in Atlantic City NJ. The 9-city trek wraps up March 12th in Myrtle Beach SC.
• Tim McGraw – He’s nabbed his 33rd #1 single this week as”One Of Those Nights” has landed top spot on the ‘Billboard Country Songs’ chart.
• Tupac Shakur – His legacy will continue to be heard, according to his mother Afeni Shakur, the head of his estate. She says she’s committed to ‘fulfilling the duty’ of developing incomplete pieces and unfinished ideas using ‘the blueprints’ he left behind. He died at age 25 in 1996.
• U2 – Bono says he is a ‘nerd’ and an ‘insufferable jumped-up Jesus’ as he tells a TED conference that extreme poverty could be eliminated by 2030.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:
A BS selection of movies in the making …
• “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ – In this 2014 sequel, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return as ‘Peter Parker’ and ‘Gwen Stacy’. Actor Paul Giamatti is in talks to portray comic book villain ‘The Rhino’, a dream role for him as he’s previously admitted to being a big fan of the invincible character. Jamie Foxx has already signed on to portray ‘Electro’.
• “Annie” – Filmmaker Will Gluck (“Friends With Benefits”) is in talks to direct this Will Smith and Jay-Z-produced modern-day remake of the classic musical. Smith’s daughter Willow Smith, for whom the film was being developed as a starring vehicle, will no longer be playing the lead. As she approaches her teen years, she’s simply grown too old for the role.
• “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” – Production on this sequel is now underway at director Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas. The cast includes returning stars Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, and Rosario Dawson from the 2005 film, plus newcomers Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, and Eva Green. The film opens this October.
• “Terminator 5” – Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed he’s back for another instalment but to what extent is unclear. Part of the vagueness may be due to the lack of a script. A team of writers worked on it for a year-and-a-half but could not pull it off. Schwarzenegger says a new script should be finished this year, allowing the film to go into pre-production.
• “X-Men: Days of Future Past” – We already know that Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, and Hugh Jackman will be returning to play Professor X, Magneto, and Wolverine in this prequel set 3 decades before the first “X-Men”. Also returning will be Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore. Original director Bryan Singer is helming the project, which is due in July 2014.

HAPPY SECRET:
Want to feel happier? Compliment a stranger. Have you ever had someone walk up to you and tell you that you had a fantastic pair of shoes or an adorable child? Remember how great it made you feel? Telling the woman walking toward you that she has a wonderful hairdo will make her feel terrific, and that feel-good buzz will rub off on you as well. (On the other hand, telling her she has really, really attractive feet will just serve to creep her out.)
– “Ladies’ Home Journal”

DINING COMPANION APP:
Smartphones are turning into people’s favorite dining partners. Almost half of those surveyed in a recent poll, 49%, consider their phone a key part of the dining experience. Here are the top 2 reasons we pull it out: Taking photos, and updating our Facebook status. (A phone also makes for a cheap date.)
– Lab42 Market Research

HIGH-HEEL ECONOMY:
Does it seem like more and more women are teetering along on ridiculously high high-heeled shoes? Blame the economy. Historically, there is a connection between heel size and the state of the economy: The height of women’s shoes has been shown to increase during periods of crisis. During hard economic times women turn to a more flamboyant fashion as a means of fantasy and escape. (That’s why in Spain, high-heels now average 27 inches.)
– “Psychology Today”

DECIPHERING THE BUZZ:
A British bee expert has developed a system that eavesdrops on hives and analyzes the sound of their buzzing to monitor the colony’s health. Dr Huw Evans of Newcastle has analyzed the audio signatures of colonies in different states and found that a humming frequency of 250 hertz, for instance, indicates a swarm is imminent. Once the hum is recorded and analyzed, data can be fed back to the keeper on a tablet computer. (A buzz alternating between 313 and 489 hertz indicates your neighbor is using his weed-whacker.)
– “BBC Focus”

DID YOU KNOW?
• The so-called ‘Dead Sea of China’ is a saltwater swimming pool located in Sichuan province. The pool covers an area of 30,000 square meters and accommodates up to 10,000 swimmers at once.
– TTP
• In China, crowded public swimming pools are called ‘boiling dumplings’.

• “International Floral Design Day”, focusing on the art of flower arranging, both as a profession and as a hobby.

• “Public Sleeping Day”, saluting the luxurious treat of catching 20 winks on a subway, park bench, commuter train, on the beach, or … on-the-job.

• “Rare Disease Day”, established in 2008 as an annual observance on the last day of February to raise awareness for rare diseases and improve access to treatment. A disease is defined as ‘rare’ in Europe when it affects less than 1-in-2000; and in the USA if it affects fewer than 200,000 in total.

• “Tooth Fairy Day”, honoring the devious dental donor who leaves money under kids’ pillows for lost teeth. No one knows the origin for sure but there was a fairytale In 18th-century France about a ‘tooth mouse’ who hides under pillows. • “World Spay Day”, an annual campaign of Humane Society International to raise awareness that spaying/neutering saves the lives of animal offspring who might otherwise be put down in a shelter or killed on the street.
