Sheeters Always Prosper!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Surprise! Johnny Galecki is married — and has a daughter. Galecki, best known for his role in “The Big Bang Theory”, revealed in a new interview that he secretly wed a woman named Morgan and they welcomed a daughter together. The 48-year-old did not share when he tied the knot — or when his latest bundle of joy, whose name is Oona Evelena, arrived. The actor’s Architectural Digest profile, published Wednesday, notes that Morgan “was expecting a child at the time of the photo shoot” at their Nashville home and gave birth “soon after.” Galecki also has a son, Avery, with his ex-girlfriend Alaina Meyer.

★ Margot Robbie officially has a follow-up project to her record-breaking role in “Barbie”. She and Colin Farrell are tapped to star in “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” from Farrell’s “After Yang” director Kogonada. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is described as “an imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them.” Farrell is coming off of his Oscar-nominated turn in “The Banshees of Inisherin”.
-TheWrap
★ If the Academy doesn’t act soon, the 2024 Oscars ceremony will be lacking in some serious Kenergy. “Barbie” star Ryan Gosling says he has yet to be tapped to perform his character Ken’s celebrated anthem “I’m Just Ken” — which is nominated for Best Original Song — at the show next month. In an interview, Gosling said he hasn’t been asked, possibly because it’s “too much of a risk” to have him do it. Although he’s not sure how it “would work”, Gosling said he’s definitely “open to it.”

★ Kevin Costner made headlines last year due to his standoff with the producers of “Yellowstone”, which resulted in his departure from the show before it wrapped. But a new report states that Costner wants back in for the show’s upcoming final episodes — but the show may not want him back. According to Puck News, Costner’s reps are trying to negotiate for him to return to wrap his character, but Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is happy with the way he’s written the end of the show without Costner’s participation. Filming on the final episodes is set to begin in a few months, so there’s a very narrow window for any potential agreement.

★ Have you ever wished Hallmark Channel‘s Christmas movies would go just a teensy bit further? Well, sorry, but a rated R (or even PG-13) film is likely never going to happen. When asked during the Television Critics Association press tour whether it would lean into more grown-up romance stories, like what Lifetime aired this past holiday season, the question was met with a resounding “no.” Hallmark Media’s EVP of programming Lisa Hamilton Daly responded: “In a Christmas movie? No. “Our movies are very much leading up to that final kiss. It’s all built up to that.” Lifetime aired its first-ever Christmas movie sex scene with “A Cowboy Christmas Romance”, which premiered in December.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Usher – says he has “anxiety” about his Super Bowl halftime show, but he’s not nervous. And interestingly, he claims he’ll be given 2 minutes more of stage time than the usual 13-minutes. Quote: “It’s…a huge strategic thing that happened between me and my agency.”
• Justin Timberlake – has nabbed his highest Billboard Hot 100 debut in 6 years as his new single ‘Selfish’ makes its debut at #19. It is also at #17 on the Pop Airplay chart, and #33 on the all-format Radio Songs chart.
• Jon Bon Jovi – claims he has written a song for his daughter that will be THE “wedding song for next 100 years”. The song, which will be on his group’s next album, was written for Stephanie Rose Bongiovi’s wedding day, but even she hasn’t heard it yet. It’s called ‘Kiss the Bride’.
• Prince – A stage adaptation of “Purple Rain” will have its world premiere in his hometown of Minneapolis MN. Producer Orin Wolf says it’ll be staged at Hennepin Theatre Trust’s historic State Theatre beginning in Spring 2025.
• AC/DC — is about to rock, again. The group posted its iconic lightning bolt, and a countdown soundtracked to a snippet of 1990’s ‘Are You Ready’ on its social media accounts. All will be revealed on Monday, but insiders are predicting the group’s first tour since 2016. LINK: http://tinyurl.com/28xr7yzh
• Gwen Stefani – will be performing at the Super Bowl TikTok Tailgate, the NFL’s pregame livestream on Sunday. Fans can tune in @NFL on TikTok for hours of live programming leading up to the game, including her performance, portions of which will be televised in the CBS Pregame Show. She and Blake Shelton will also release their latest collab ‘Purple Irises’ today.
• Jelly Roll – plans to complete his first-ever 5K run this May. But, as he said, maybe “run” isn’t the right word. Quote: I’m definitely going to get the 3.1 miles done — probably a brisk power walk.” LINK: http://tinyurl.com/4nbu5z5d
• Chayce Beckham – posted that he hasn’t been on social media lately, “and honestly it’s been the most refreshing thing to kind of put this stuff in my back pocket and not think about it.” He broke his silence on X to tell fans that he has a new album coming soon, and a “huge tour to announce, so I’ll be back on here posting regularly soon.” LINK: http://tinyurl.com/mxspnbxs
• Luke Combs – 2 days after he joined Tracy Chapman to perform ‘Fast Car’ at the Grammys, he played a private acoustic show for 450 people at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. He introduced the song this way: “Singing with Tracy was incredible. I did my best. Now you’ve heard Tracy do it, which is way better. But now you get to hear me do it.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

NEW MOVIES THIS WEEK:

(Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Jenna Davis) Tomatometer: 52%
• “Turning Red” (PG, Animation, Comedy): Mei Lee is a confident, dorky 13-year-old, torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. TRASH-TALKING CASH:
The old saying is “Money can’t buy happiness”, and as it turns out, it might be absolutely correct. A team of researchers in Spain conducted a study on numerous indigenous peoples and local communities worldwide who lead fulfilling lives, despite the fact that they possess minimal financial resources. Here’s an idea of what they found: Many societies with low incomes still experience levels of life satisfaction that rival those in affluent nations. This, of course, flies in the face of our western concept of connecting wealth and happiness. Results show that in societies where monetary transactions are infrequent, contentment may originate from factors other than financial wealth. In fact, in their study of 19 communities, 64% had ZERO cash income – yet the people reported an average life satisfaction of 6.8 out of 10. This is comparable to the happiness scores reported in the wealthy Scandinavian countries. The researchers say the results suggest that rather than money, the value of social and cultural factors are important in achieving life satisfaction.
(Well NOW what am I supposed to daydream about?)
(Here’s what makes ME happy: #1: It’s Friday. And #2: The dozen and a half chicken wings I’m going to be throwing down my gullet on Super Bowl Sunday!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ When planning their wedding, this pair definitely took a gamble. Instead of showing their appreciation to their guests with the usual stuff, like personalized treats or wine glasses — Lake Tahoe couple Matt and Jessica Grime leaned into their shared love for the San Francisco 49ers. They purchased 180 $2 sports bets for the NFL team to win the 2024 Super Bowl, and gave one to each of their guests, along with a note, which read in part: “You bet on us, so we placed a bet for you. We hope you get as lucky as us!” Little did they know at the time of their September 2023 wedding that the 49ers would make it all the way to the big game. The bets had odds of +850 when they were purchased, so if the 49ers win, each guest will win about $19. (Great story – until you realize they spent TWO dollars on each wedding guest!)
➢ A ramen bar in Houston is struggling to stay afloat — so the owner decided to start an OnlyFans account to help with finances. In an Instagram post, Christopher Huang wrote that he has started an OnlyFans account for Ninja Ramen, and invited customers to: “Send me pictures of you eating our hot noods (N-O-O-D-S), and I’ll post them (with your consent, of course).” Yes, the account is real, and yes, Huang is serious — but OnlyFans is just part of a larger plan. He wants to do even more events and collaborations — “cool and weird things” – aimed at saving his business. As he put it: “I don’t know how to ask for help in an elegant manner.” (You know the problem with having a ramen restaurant? If the customers start making more money, they eat less ramen. And if they start making less money, they also eat less ramen!)

THE BEST SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOWS EVER:
The Super Bowl Halftime Show is the biggest night in popular music (bigger than the Grammys!), and here are the best-ever, according to a survey of 10 expert websites…
1. Prince (2007): His explosive coda of ‘Purple Rain’ (in the rain) had the stadium full of testosterone-pumped football fanatics waving their arms and howling in falsetto.
2. Michael Jackson (1993): The performance that changed Super Bowl halftime shows forever. His spectacular entrance used body doubles to create the illusion of teleporting around the stadium, before the King of Pop himself jumped from the center of the stage.
3. Beyoncé (2013): She was so good, it caused a stadium power outage! Watched by 104 million people, it became the most tweeted-about moment in Twitter history with 268,000 tweets per minute.
4. Katy Perry (2015): Not only did Perry put on one of the most magnificently fun halftime shows, she was joined by Missy Elliott for 3 songs, plus Lenny Kravitz…and the Dancing Sharks!
5. U2 (2002): They had the difficult job of putting on a show to a world still reeling from the 9/11 attacks just 5 months prior. During their iconic show, a scrolling backdrop featured the names of all of the victims and Bono finished by opening his jacket to reveal the stars and stripes in its lining.

DID YOU KNOW?
Would a Saturday Super Bowl work better for you? Tradition dictates that the game is played on a Sunday, but if it were played on a Saturday, you could recuperate before work, after all the food and beverages that you consumed. A 2022 survey of over 2,000 NFL fans found 48% would like to see the big game moved to Saturday. That would definitely help out the 14% of Americans who call out “sick” the next day. (Can’t we just make Monday a holiday?)

BS CHRONOMETER 02.09.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Chocolate Day”, started by the Confectioners Association to promote what is almost every woman’s (and many a man’s) weakness. Some say chocolate from the New World (mostly Mexico) was introduced to Europe on this date in 1550.
• “Toothache Day” in honor of the feast day of St. Apollonia, patron saint of dentists, and those suffering from toothaches. (It doesn’t help that it’s Chocolate Day!)
• “Read in the Bathtub Day”, an excuse to luxuriate in a steamy tub with a great novel. (NOT on your Kindle… zap!)
• “Bagels & Lox Day”, a food holiday celebrating the deli favorite that involves topping a fresh-baked bagel with salmon fillet that has been cured.
• “Develop Alternative Vices Day”, a day to change your habits and improve yourself. (They say 1 in 7 of your friends has a gambling addiction. My money’s on Larry!)
• “Cut the Cord Day”, memorializing Sling TV, the first streaming service to deliver live television, which debuted on February 9, 2015. (And it’s still out there, with 2.1 million subscribers!)
• “Pizza Day” (Or, as our boss calls it, “Please Don’t Unionize Day”!), saluting what is likely the world’s favorite pie. A few facts …
– The first pizza was sold in Naples, Italy in 1738.
– Over 5 billion pizzas are sold each year.
– More pizzas are sold on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year.
– About 17% of all restaurants are pizzerias, or at least serve pizza.
– On average, Americans consume over 23 lbs. (10.5kg) of pizza per year. That’s about 46 slices.

SATURDAY-
• “Chinese New Year”, also called Lunar New Year, an annual festival in China and Chinese communities around the world that begins with the new moon and culminates with the Lantern Festival. This is the beginning of the ‘Year of the Dragon’. LINK: https://chinesenewyear.net/
• “Flannel Day”, a day for people to wear their best lumberjack-esque attire and enjoy a piece of clothing made to keep them warm during a long winter. (So put on your Canadian uniform!)
• “Teddy Day”, We’ve been playing with them since childhood. This reflects our nurturing personality and is a symbol of affection. The teddy bear is named after President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt.
• “Umbrella Day”, honoring the famous invention designed to protect against rain or sunlight. “Parasol” usually refers to an item designed to protect from the sun; “Umbrella” refers to one more suited to protect from rain. (But some of us use ‘umbrella’ for both…sort of an ‘umbrella’ term!)
• “Home Warranty Day”, to educate home builders, real estate professionals and homeowners about insurance-backed structural warranties and home warranty service agreements, and how they can protect when the unexpected happens. (I don’t have a warranty on my A/C, but it’d be a lot cooler if I did!)
• “Global Movie Day”, a day for film fans to celebrate their favorite movies and engage with Academy members and filmmakers across social media. LINK: https://www.oscars.org/news/global-movie-day
• “Plimsoll Day”, honoring Samuel Plimsoll, a member of English Parliament back in the day who championed sailors’ safety. The “Plimsoll line”, or waterline on a ship where the hull meets the water surface, is named after him.
• “International Cribbage Day”. Cribbage is one of the oldest regularly played card games. It was created by Sir John Suckling in the early 17th century, and is derived from the Old English game “nod”.

SUNDAY-
• “Super Chicken Wing Day”. Yes, there is a “National Chicken Wing Day” in July, but they just couldn’t let the Super Bowl happen without its perfect accompaniment! The National Chicken Council anticipates that almost 1.5 billion wings will be consumed across the US today, enough for every person in the country to have 4. http://www.nationalchickenwingday.com/
• “Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day”, an annual reminder that everyone screws up now and then. It’s a day to be optimistic, think positive, look on the bright side, and find something good in whatever happens. (Also, a good day to argue whether the correct term is ‘spilled’ or ‘spilt’)
• “Get Out Your Guitar Day”, today, pull your axe out of the attic, dust it off and, if you’re lucky, find someone who can tune it.
• “Inventors Day”, honoring the birth date of prolific inventor Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931), who single-handedly patented 1,200 inventions.
• “Satisfied Staying Single Day”, for those who choose to live independently and are quite happy doing so, thank-you very much. (Imagine being single on Valentine’s Day. Ha! The joke’s on you, I don’t have to imagine!)
• “Shut-in Visitation Day”, encouraging us to brighten the day for someone who is unable to get out and about.
