BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

★ Have Julia Fox and Kanye West broken up? If Fox’s Instagram account is anything to go by, then it seems so. The pair, who met and have been dating since New Year’s Eve, spent a whirlwind month going out for lavish dinners, shopping sprees and attending Paris Fashion Week, all of which was documented on Fox’s Instagram account. But things changed last week after West’s ex Kim Kardashian featured on the March cover of American Vogue. Following the release of the images, Kanye posted the picture of his ex-wife and 4 children with the caption: “God please bring our family back together.” After that move, Fox has since deleted all images of her and West and he appears to not be following Fox on Instagram. West spent much of the weekend posting various images, including a now-deleted post saying he doesn’t want Kardashian’s new boyfriend, Pete Davidson, to see his children.

★ Johnny Depp has armed himself with a major weapon in his epic legal battle against ex-wife Amber Heard. Prominent “Making A Murderer” attorney Kathleen Zellner, who has famously worked to overturn wrongful convictions, has joined Depp’s legal team. That comes after he lost his libel suit in London against a newspaper columnist who labeled him a “wife-beater.” In March, Depp was refused permission to appeal, but is still suing Heard in the US, over a newspaper article in which she described being a victim of domestic abuse.

★ Joe Exotic has begged his archenemy Carole Baskin to “leave me alone.” The infamous former zookeeper shot to fame alongside his rival in Netflix’s “Tiger King”, which ended with Exotic being found guilty of a murder-for-hire plot against the Big Cat Rescue founder, and violations of animal welfare law. Speaking in his first interview since being resentenced he said: “What would I say [to Carole]? I am in prison and she can’t leave me alone…Carole, go find another reason to live other than Joe Exotic. Because enough is enough!”

★ Goldin Auctions is hosting an online auction featuring a ton of vintage VHS tapes, and the star of the show is from a galaxy far, far away. An unopened VHS copy of “Star Wars: Episode IV” is expected to fetch $60,000. The first-edition copy of the movie includes a “Gray Tape-Head,” a “First Edition Stereo Only” red label, a “1984 Sleeve,” and “First Edition CBS/Fox Watermarks”. Also up for grabs — a sealed copy of the “Star Wars 10-Year Anniversary Original Trilogy Set”, which should go for $10-20,000. Bidding closes February 24.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Cardi B – Her debut album “Invasion of Privacy” has become the first album by a female rapper to spend 200 weeks on the Billboard 200. This week, the blockbuster collection is at #174 on the chart, almost 4 years after debuting at #1 upon its April, 2018 release.
• Harry Styles — has been spotted filming a music video on a giant bed outside Buckingham Palace. According to a source, Styles was spotted on the closed set wearing retro clothes reminiscent of John Lennon’s famous bed-in with Yoko Ono.
• Kid Cudi – called Kanye West a “dinosaur” after the rapper announced Cudi won’t be featured on “Donda 2”, due to his friendship with Pete Davidson. But Cudi insisted he had no intention of appearing on the album, replying: “Too bad I don’t wanna be on ur album u (expletive) dinosaur hahaha. everyone knows ive been the best thing about ur albums since i met u. Ima pray for you brother (sic).”
• Foreigner – Founding member of King Crimson Ian McDonald has died of cancer at 75. McDonald, who was a saxophonist but could also play keyboards, flute, vibraphone and guitar, played on Foreigner’s first 3 albums, and worked as a session musician, including on T. Rex’s ‘Get It On (Bang A Gong)’.
• The Sheepdogs – The Canadian retro-rockers Canadian have released the live album “Live At Lees”. The 11-song recording was recorded in November at Lee’s Palace, a 450-capacity venue in Toronto. The band’s UK tour kicks off on Feb 28.
• Kurt Cobain – The late Nirvana frontman’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain has confirmed her relationship with Riley Hawk, the son of pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk. She filed for divorce from Isaiah Silva in 2016 after 2 years of marriage, which led to a drama-filled battle over one of Kurt’s guitars, which eventually went to her ex. It was later auctioned off for $6 million.
• Lauren Alaina – cried during her induction into the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night. She kissed her award when Trisha Yearwood presented it to her, saying: “Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of this moment. Most little girls dreamed of their weddings. I dreamed of this. Hopefully, now I can have a wedding, too, and we’ll be set.”
• Luke Bryan – despite what he indicated prior to Saturday’s opening of his Vegas residency at Resorts World Theatre, his was definitely NOT a show devoid of special effects. He and his band played on an elaborate stage of more than a dozen shifting cube-shaped pillars, mind-blowing video work reflecting scenes from his 28 #1 songs, state-of-the-art lights and lasers, and a robotic flying bridge.
• Willie Nelson – has announced that he’ll release his new album “A Beautiful Time,” on April 29, his 89th birthday. The first single, ‘I’ll Love You Till the Day I Die’, written by Rodney Crowell and Chris Stapleton, is out now. The album will also include covers of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Tower of Song’ and The Beatles’ ‘With a Little Help from My Friends.’ LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdy9w62m

SHOOTING THE BULL

ENCHANTING ENGAGEMENTS:
Maybe you believe that a Valentine’s Day proposal would be the perfect way to get engaged. Maybe you think it’s the cheesiest. Maybe you GOT engaged on Valentine’s Day. Well, to each their own, but according to a survey, the most sure-fire path to the alter definitely involves a romantic, intimate dinner. The poll of 2,000 Americans sought to find which situations are the best and worst for getting engaged. Aside from that romantic dinner, people said that the best moments to propose are, in order, during the holidays, while on vacation, at a concert and at a wedding. The worst way to get engaged is definitely via text message, followed by, in order, during a phone call, at a fast-food joint, at their parents’ home, and during a sporting event.
(That explains why she said “no” when I texted, then called her at her parents’ place and asked her to marry me…from my job as a fry-cook at the arena!)
(Actually, I think the perfect way to get engaged would be on the way to her family’s private Caribbean island…aboard their private yacht!)
(***Ask listeners for their awesome…or not-so-awesome proposal stories***)

POTATO LEAKS:
➠ There are already a lot of dairy alternatives to choose from but the latest could be a game-changer because of how cheap and plentiful its main ingredient is. How about some potato milk? Potato milk is said to be “deliciously creamy” and great for homemade lattes and cappuccinos. Plus, the humble potato uses a lot less land and resources than other plants that are currently used for milk, which makes it more affordable. DUG, the world’s only commercially available potato milk brand, recently made its debut in the UK, but if you’d like to try making your own, there are dozens of recipes available online. (I know it doesn’t exactly SOUND delicious, but neither does “soy milk”!)
➠ The Idaho Potato Commission celebrated Valentine’s Day by announcing a limited-edition product made from the state’s signature crop: potato perfume. The fragrance, Frites by Idaho, is made from distilled Idaho potatoes and essential oils, and is designed to smell like a fresh plate of French fries. They say it’s “a great gift for anyone who can’t refuse a French fry.” The $1.89 bottles of the fragrance sold out quickly on the IPC website. (Great, now my daughter can smell just like every guy she ever dated!)

WARMING WARNINGS:
Experts say that climate change is forcing some animals to adapt in unusual ways. Morgan Tingley, an associate professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of California LA, says that species typically adapt in one of 3 ways: They move from one place to another when the region gets too hot, they change their breeding habits, such as seasonal timing, or they themselves change, either through evolution or natural selection. Here are some changes that have been observed in animals as a result of climate change:
• Albatross penguins, famous for mating for life, are seeing higher “divorce” rates as temperatures warm. Researchers call this the first evidence of significant influence of the environment on divorce rates among a long-lived monogamous population.
• Polar bears are inbreeding due to melting sea ice. The lack of genetic diversity could eventually lead to the species’ inability to produce fertile offspring or withstand disease.
• Birds in the Amazon are shrinking. Because of a hotter, dryer climate, some have lost as much as 2% of their body weight since 1980. Scientists say a smaller body size allows the bird to dissipate heat more effectively. Birds are thought of by experts as overall indicators of the health of our ecosystem.
(Well . . . now that we know ignoring the problem won’t make it go away – does anyone have any other ideas?)

HACKS FOR A HAPPY COMMUTE:
(Do these while en route, and you’ll be happier when you arrive…)
⇒ Blast your favorite song:  Listen to it over and over again, focusing on a different instrument or vocal each time. Not only will it bring you joy, it will cultivate mindfulness.
⇒ Smell a calming scent:  This could mean applying a citrus-scented lotion or playing with a lavender-scented putty – even before you head out the door. (My calming scent is the smell of 5 o’clock!)
⇒ Take some deep breaths:  Stress can cause you to breathe faster. Deep breathing counters the body’s “fight or flight’ response. (If my wife drove YOU to work, trust me, you’d be taking a few deep breaths, too!)
⇒ Catch up with a loved one:  Call a friend or family member (hands-free, of course) while driving. Catching up with people we love can make us feel supported and nurtured, which improves our mental health. (Because I’m sure no one has anything better to do at 7:30am, other than to keep ME company!)
⇒ Visualize expressing yourself creatively:  Think about what you’d write, draw or take a photo of at this moment if you could. Channeling creative energy can leave you feeling focused and boost your mood.
⇒ Think about splurging:  Consider grabbing an indulgent latte before you head into the office, or driving the scenic route. Thinking about something that brings you joy gives you something to look forward to, which makes you happy.
⇒ Listen to something you enjoy:  It goes without saying that this means you should listen to (***this station***). And you are!
(Do some people really still commute?)

DID YOU KNOW?
A child’s night light may do more than keep away the monsters hiding under their bed. A study from the University of Colorado has found that even slight exposure to dim light can disrupt a youngster’s sleep. Researchers found any type of light exposure before bed can impact the production of the hormone melatonin, which helps indicate to your body when to sleep and when to stay awake. Sensitivity to light may be greater in children than adults because kid’s eyes can take in more light.

BS CHRONOMETER 02.15.22

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “National Flag of Canada Day”, the celebration of Canada’s Maple Leaf flag. It was first unveiled on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill on this date in 1965, replacing the ‘Red Ensign’. The day is marked by flying the flag, occasional public ceremonies, and educational programs in schools.
• “Singles Awareness Day”, to provide single people with an alternative to Valentine’s Day festivities. Some consider Singles Awareness Day (sometimes shortened to S.A.D.) the “anti-Valentine’s Day.” (But at least you can celebrate with half-price chocolate!)
• “Gumdrop Day”, honoring the popular, gelatin-based candy which has been a favorite for decades. Nowadays, ‘Gummi’ candies are the most popular incarnation of the gumdrop. (Some more than others…)
• “Hippo Day”, celebrating the third largest mammal on Earth. Why not take some time to waddle in a mud bath, get angry with some tourists, and yawn a lot while opening your mouth really-really wide?
• “I Want Butterscotch Day”, the main ingredients are normally butter and brown sugar, but of course there are others. So, what do we do today? Load up on the candies, the fudge and/or baked goods. It’s going to be a sweet day!
• “Susan B. Anthony Day”, honoring the 1820 birth of one of the first women’s rights advocates, and the face on the first US dollar-coin that bombed.
