BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ According to a report, Ryan Reynolds is teaming-up with Toronto-based real estate development corporation Remington Group to purchase the Ottawa Senators NHL team. The Ottawa Sun says that Reynolds and Remington will make a bid to purchase the team, and plans to build a new arena in downtown Ottawa. If the deal goes through, Reynolds will be the face of the team. It’s expected the sale price of the club will exceed US $800 million. The “Deadpool” actor is also reportedly planning to create a series surrounding the purchase of the team and the construction of the new stadium. It would be similar to the “Welcome to Wrexham” series that has been produced since Reynolds co-purchased the Wales-based soccer team Wrexham FC.

★ The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t the only ones celebrating after Sunday night’s victory over the Philadelphia Eagles during Super Bowl 57. The telecast, which was broadcast on Fox and digital platforms, averaged 113 million viewers, according to early Nielsen data. That makes it the most-watched Super Bowl since 2017’s Patriots vs. Falcons matchup. The audience shot up to 118.7M viewers during Rihanna‘s halftime show, the most-watched halftime show since Katy Perry in 2015, and second most-watched Super Bowl halftime performance on record.

★ Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are taking their humor on the road. The former “Saturday Night Live” co-stars have announced their first-ever live tour together, titled “The Restless Leg Tour”. In a joint statement, Poehler and Fey said: “If this tour goes right, we can finally end this friendship!” Things start April 28 in Washington DC, before moving on to stops in Chicago, Boston and Atlantic City. The funny ladies plan to share stories from their 30 years of friendship and their careers from the stage.

The 78-year-old “Machete” actor told a reporter that he planned to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as way way to reorganize his assets to help deal with a tax bill of about $2 million.

★ If you’re looking for a unique piece of showbiz memorabilia, consider adding THIS to your collection. A pair of tighty-whitie undies worn by Bryan Cranston on “Breaking Bad” is hitting the auction block along numerous other sweet pieces of Hollywood swag. Propstore, one of the biggest film and TV entertainment memorabilia auction specialists, is selling off the iconic undergarments worn by the show’s meth-making family man. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• BTS – Jimin has revealed that he’ll drop his first solo album next month. His collab with Big Bang’s Taeyang, ‘Vibe’, debuted at #76 on the Billboard Hot 100 last month, giving all 7 members of the group at least one solo hit.
• Post Malone — was denied access to a bar in Australia on Sat. because of his appearance. He told a news outlet that QT Perth’s rooftop bar “turned me away for my tattoos. I’ve never really experienced anything like that.” The venue’s dress code prohibits “face, neck, and offensive tattoos” – the first two of which Posty has in abundance. The bar has since apologized.
• Whitney Houston – The previously unheard single ‘Testimony’, which she recorded as a 17-year-old, was released on Fri. It’s the first of 6 new songs which will appear next month on “I Go to the Rock: The Gospel Music of Whitney Houston”, which also includes “exhilarating versions of cherished gospel evergreens.” There will also be a TV doc with the same name. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4pvtnrzn
• Scorpions – The music video for ‘Wind of Change’ has surpassed one billion views on YouTube. The 1990 power ballad was written by the group after performing at 1989’s Moscow Music Peace Festival, where they were inspired by the sight of thousands of Russian fans cheering them on, even though they were a German band. Singer Klaus Meine says the song’s message is “more important than ever” today.
• Noel Gallagher and Garbage – have announced a co-headlining tour of North America. It kicks off June 2 in Auburn WA, hitting LA, Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Toronto, NY and other cities, concluding July 15 in Boston. Metric will also appear on the bill.
• Metallica – Apparently, they’re pretty peeved they weren’t asked by Rihanna to make a guest appearance during her Super Bowl halftime performance when she played her 2012 single ‘Diamonds’. The group posted a clip of themselves singing the tune on “Carpool Karaoke”, with the caption: “We can’t believe Rihanna didn’t ask us to be her backup singers.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mrxjx4ur
• Morgan Wallen – His “One Thing At A Time” album isn’t even out yet, and it has already scored 7 Top 10 hits. The 36-song project arrives March 3, but several song have already made a major impact, including ‘Last Night’ (currently #7), and the previous #1s ‘Don’t Think Jesus’, ‘Thought You Should Know’ and ‘You Proof’.
• Kelsea Ballerini — Five months after releasing her “Subject to Change” album, she’s back with more new music. Monday night, she released the EP “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat”, which she describes as a ”6-song story”. She has also teased a snippet of the short film which accompanies the EP. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/244aepvh
• Jason Aldean – has announced his 2023 “Highway Desperado” tour, also featuring Mitchell Tenpenny, Corey Kent and Dee Jay Silver. The 41-city trek launches July 14 in Bethel, NY. Tickets go on sale Friday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3xkc9x5j
SHOOTING THE BULL
THAT’S RICH:
Being at the top end of the income scale doesn’t necessarily mean you’re much smarter than the average person, according to a new study. And ever MORE interestingly, those in the top 1% of the earnings scale score lower in cognitive ability tests than those earning slightly less. Swedish researchers based their findings on data from 60,000 Swedish men who completed a military conscription test aged 18 or 19. They found no evidence that those with top jobs that pay extraordinary wages are more deserving than those who earn only half those wages. The researchers concluded that when it comes to very high earners, the resources available due to someone’s family background — plus lucky breaks in careers — carry more weight than overall intelligence.
(Is that why everyone’s talking about “nepo-babies” these days?)
(That’s what I’ve been trying to tell my wife – Tom Brady just got lucky…that could’ve just as easily been me!)

NEW TO YOU (AND ME):
☞ McDonald’s is offering its iconic Big Mac Sauce as a condiment served in a dip cup in Canada. Unlike the brand’s traditional dipping sauces, which are typically available free with the purchase of menu items, Big Mac Sauce (also known as “special sauce” and “secret sauce”) in dip cup form is listed as a condiment on the McDonald’s Canada website and is priced at 30-cents each. Big Mac Sauce dips can be found at participating McDonald’s locations across Canada through March 6. (I’m holding out for the Big Mac-flavored milkshake!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5ebtahsk
☞ MSCHF, an art collective specializing in unique products, has announced a new cologne inspired by — WD40. And while the makers of the world’s most popular lubricant spray specifically advise against applying it to your skin, the new “Smells Like WD 40” cologne is made for exactly that. The smell of WD40 is almost as famous as its versatility, and people have been making joke memes about WD40 perfumes for years. Unfortunately, the WD40 cologne is currently sold out on its official website. And no wonder – at only $48 per can. LINK: https://www.instagram.com/p/CoIj5hnDHdw/
SNACKING IN THE SACK:
Two-thirds of adults admit that they allow eating in bed – but what foods are off-limits? In a survey of 2,000 people, just over half agreed that if any meal should be eaten under the duvet, it’s breakfast, and things like yogurt, toast and croissants are all on the list of “allowed” foods. So are ice cream, pizza and fruit. But 52% admitted they can’t really enjoy eating in bed because they’re too worried about making a mess. And probably for that exact reason, here are the top-10 foods that people said are “banned” from bed: Soup, Pasta and sauce, Roast dinner, Stir fry, Curry, Fish and chips, Tacos, Ramen, Hot dogs, and Sausage and mashed potatoes.
(Yes, you’re right. That definitely means that someone has actually considered eating sausage and mashed potatoes – in bed!)
(I’m not even allowed to eat in the living room – let alone the bedroom!)

THE WORLD’S HIGHEST-PAID ENTERTAINERS IN 2022:
It wasn’t a great year for movie stars, but it was for performers who are considered a “sure thing”. Here is Forbes’ list of the rich and famous who got even MORE rich and famous last year…
1. Genesis — $230 million: Not only did they tour for the first time in years, the prog-rock pioneers topped 2022 with a $300 million music rights sale.
2. Sting — $210m: The former Police-man pocketed $300 million by selling his entire musical output, both solo and with The Police.
3. Tyler Perry — $175m: The actor-director-writer-studio mogul is the only billionaire on the list. That’s partly thanks to income streams from film, his BET TV shows and his sprawling production backlot.
4. Trey Parker & Matt Stone — $160m: The devilish duo behind “South Park” not only made a ton from “Book of Mormon”, they also signed a deal with Paramount to the tune of $935 million over 6 years.
5. James L. Brooks & Matt Groening — $105m: “The Simpsons” co-creators made a mint as a result of the yellow cartoon family’s move to Disney+ from FX in 2019 (all 30 seasons…!)
6. Brad Pitt — $100m: He sold his Plan B production company for about $113m. Plus we hear he did some acting on the side… (“Bullet Train”, “Babylon”, “The Lost City”…)
7. Rolling Stones — $98m: Their tour grossed $136m. Plus there are record royalties and stuff. (And one less band member to share the cash with. What? Too soon?)
8. James Cameron — $95m: “Avatar: The Way of Water” made him the director of 3 of the highest-grossing movies of all time, alongside the first “Avatar” and “Titanic”. (Pretty sure he’ll have a lucrative 2023, as well!)
9. Taylor Swift — $92m: The top lady on the list. Her “Midnights” album was definitely successful, making her the first performer ever to nab the top 10 slots in Billboard’s Hot 100. But about 70% of her bucks came from her earlier library, including sales and streaming.
10. Bad Bunny — $88m: The Puerto Rican rapper embarked on 2 tours, and appeared alongside Brad Pitt in “Bullet Train”. Endorsement deals with Corona, Cheetos and Adidas didn’t hurt, either.

DID YOU KNOW?
A 2017 study found that the key to feeling younger is acting younger – and occasionally sillier. Researchers in the UK polled adults on the effects of nostalgia and youthful behavior on mental and physical health, and nearly ¾ of respondents indicated that occasionally forgetting you’re an adult and tapping into a more immature mindset — be it watching old cartoons, pulling pranks on friends, or playing classic board games — was important for their health. Also effective: the simple act of being silly – by imitating others, making goofy faces, or blowing bubbles through a straw. (Why do I feel like they surveyed the members of Monty Python?)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “National Flag of Canada Day”, the celebration of Canada’s Maple Leaf flag. It was first unveiled on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill on this date in 1965, replacing the ‘Red Ensign’. The day is marked by flying the flag, occasional public ceremonies, and educational programs in schools.
• “Singles Awareness Day”, to provide single people with an alternative to Valentine’s Day festivities. Some consider Singles Awareness Day (sometimes shortened to S.A.D.) the “anti-Valentine’s Day.” (But at least you can celebrate with half-price chocolate!)
• “Gumdrop Day”, honoring the popular, gelatin-based candy which has been a favorite for decades. Nowadays, ‘Gummi’ candies are the most popular incarnation of the gumdrop. (Some more than others…)
• “Hippo Day”, celebrating the third largest mammal on Earth. Why not take some time to waddle in a mud bath, get angry with some tourists, and yawn a lot while opening your mouth really-really wide?
• “I Want Butterscotch Day”, the main ingredients are normally butter and brown sugar, but of course there are others. So, what do we do today? Load up on the candies, the fudge and/or baked goods. It’s going to be a sweet day!
• “Susan B. Anthony Day”, honoring the 1820 birth of one of the first women’s rights advocates, and the face on the first US dollar-coin that bombed.

TODAY’S SCOOP OF BS:
➠ Scientists have found that men with beer bellies are statistically more likely to have weaker bones. (Maybe, but they’re also more likely to have a killer Super Bowl party. . . so, take the good with the bad!)
➠ A report says the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. (Are they kidding? That’s my idea of a perfect day!)
➠ NOW they tell me. A survey says only 4% of women think flowers are the best present for Valentine’s Day. (That number jumps to 100%, however, if the flowers are delivered by a shirtless Hemsworth.)
➠ What’s believed to be another spy balloon was been shot down by US Jets on Sunday. (Even though Ted Nugent claims he snatched it with a cross-bow…)
➠ I just read that sex is biochemically no different from eating large quantities of chocolate. (True, but 9 months later you never have to explain who ‘slipped you’ the chocolate!)
