BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Julia Quinn, the author of “Bridgerton,” says she never expected to receive an offer to turn her best-selling romance series into a Netflix show. Quinn says she heard that producer Shonda Rimes ran out of reading material while on vacation and somehow stumbled on one of her books. Quote: “It’s crazy to think that my life is forever changed because Shonda didn’t bring enough reading material on vacation, but that’s honestly what happened.” Rimes is also the producer behind “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal.”-Yahoo
★ Director Robert Rodriguez will return to the beloved “Spy Kids franchise” to direct a reboot for Skydance. He’ll write and helm a new movie that will revolve around the adventures of a multicultural family. The ‘Spy Kids’ franchise launched in 2001 starring Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as Carmen and Juni Cortez, who have to save their parents, played by Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, when they’re kidnapped while also having to contend with the small matter of saving the world. The first film spawned two sequels and one “kinda-sequel”, which was mostly a new movie with different characters in the same world.

SHOOTING THE BULL

INSCENTSED:
If you’re getting sick and tired of breathing the smell of your own coffee breath while wearing a face mask, you’ll be happy to hear about this. The latest trend is scented face masks. From fresh mint to lavender to an assortment of fruity smells including apple and strawberry, scented masks are on the rise, and they’re a welcome change from some of the initial offerings. Last year, a few companies jumped on the mask-making bandwagon with food scented face masks — including Black Label’s “Breatheable bacon” and Jack in the Box’s fried chicken face mask. So, we’ve definitely come a long way…unless you’d prefer one of those to the smell of herbal spearmint, of course.
(Now, Dr. Fauci recently said it’s not a bad idea to wear TWO masks. What scent pairs nicely with orange mist?)
(All I know is that on New Year’s Day, I walked around thinking to myself “You people have no idea of the smells that this mask is protecting you from!)
(What scent would you suggest?)

BYE, DAMP FRY SUPPLY:
As we all know, ordering our restaurant meals for delivery has become an even more popular and convenient thing to do during the pandemic, and it’s a good way to support local business who may be experiencing a difficult time. But we also know that some foods, including French fries, don’t travel well. Because they often arrive cold and mushy, many solutions have been tried over the years, like special cooking oils and perforated packaging designed to keep them crispy. Now, SAVRpak, a California-based start-up, has developed peel and stick patches designed to absorb condensation inside food containers, slowing the rate at which fries and other foods deteriorate between a restaurant kitchen and your front door. The patches, which look like a thick, white sticker, are covered in plant pulp and contain ice. Once placed in a delivery bag or box, it relies on thermodynamics to keep hot meals and salads from going soggy. Hot foods emit moisture, which is the main reason French fries and other hot foods go mushy during delivery. By using SAVRpaks, which the restaurant freezes ahead of time, the packets alter the dew point and absorb some of the moisture floating around the container. And the company says it “will not make hot food cold.”
(I’ve never had a problem with delivery fries. Certainly nothing that a little…or a lot…of ketchup won’t help!)
(I swear to you that until this minute, I had no idea that it was a thing to have a salad delivered!)
(Well, if your delivery guy wasn’t sneaking a few fries BEFORE…)

SURPRISE! MONEY, HAPPINESS LINKED:
According to the old saying, “money can’t buy happiness,” but a new study has found that…yeah…that’d be wrong. Although previous studies have found there’s a limit to how much a person’s income impacts their happiness, a researcher from the University of Pennsylvania says the sky’s the limit when it comes to money’s influence over well-being. Matthew Killingsworth’s study examined over 33,000 people; each providing a moment-to-moment snapshot of their daily lives, to give a truer representation of how satisfied people are at any given time, rather than looking at overall well-being. Other studies have concluded that money stops mattering at income levels of around $75,000. The new study, however, revealed that rising income continues to affect the earner’s well-being even into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Killingsworth says that when he analyzed across a wide range of income levels, he found that “all forms of well-being continued to rise with income” and he never found a point when more money stopped mattering, “Instead, it keeps increasing.”
(This study brought to you by the Institute of “How Shallow Can Humanity Get?”)
(Just once, couldn’t I find these things out for myself?)
(I don’t know if money can buy happiness, but it sure makes misery easier to live with!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A new study has found that a baby’s first breath triggers live-saving and life-long changes in breathing systems. A team at the University of Virginia School of Medicine says their findings may prove invaluable in the fight against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. They found that when a child exits the mother’s womb and breathes for the very first time, that action activates a signaling system within the brainstem that is responsible for early breathing regulation and support.
