BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Chris Hemsworth has volunteered to become a “human guinea pig” for a new National Geographic health docuseries called “Limitless”. He’ll undergo a series of challenges that will explore different ways humans can live longer. The show will then follow Hemsworth as he discovers how to live a healthier and smarter life by transforming himself through six physical and mental challenges around the world. Each episode will tackle a different technique that is to help extend human life — like regenerating damage, shocking the body, and supercharging memory.

★ Twenty-one vehicles owned by the late actor Paul Walker, who starred in the “Fast and Furious” movie franchise, sold for a combined US$2.33-million at an annual car auction in Arizona. Among the crowd favourites were a custom 2009 Nissan 370Z, which made an appearance in the “Fast Five” movie. The low-mileage vehicle sold on Thursday for $105,600. Proceeds from the sale will go to a trust for Walker’s daughter, Meadow. Walker, an avid car enthusiast, was a passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT driven by Roger Rodas when the vehicle crashed, killing both men in 2013.

★ Paris Hilton says she feels like she’s been ”playing a character” all of her life. She’s launching a new YouTube documentary called “This Is Paris”, and confesses that it was ”hard” opening up. Quote: ”In this film, I discuss things I’ve never discussed before. I hope that people are going to see who I truly am.” She says that in the doc, she talks about “things that are very hard to talk about.” She calls it “an amazing experience” but “very scary”.

COMOOONICATION:
A new study says that cows tell each other how they feel through their “moos”. Research by the University of Sydney has found that cows have individual vocal characteristics and change their pitch depending on their emotions. The study found that cows use their voice to help them maintain contact with the herd and express excitement, arousal, engagement or distress. According to Alexandra Green, the study’s lead author, “Cows are gregarious, social animals . . .It isn’t surprising they assert their individual identity throughout their life.” She hopes that the research will help farmers “tune into the emotional state of their cattle, improving animal welfare”.
(What’s even more amazing is that someone was able to get funding for a study on cows talking!)
(I think that now that farmers are paying attention, they’ll find that their cattle are talking until the cows come home…)
(And I thought they were just telling each other to “Mooove”!)

PUT A CORK IN IT:
Wine sales in the U.S. have declined for the first time 25 years as young adults have made a move toward spiked seltzers and spirits instead. Wine sales slipped 0.9% in 2019, the first drop since 1994, according to an industry report. While Americans have been drinking less alcohol overall, the report largely pins the blame on millennials for killing wine’s buzz. Young drinkers are leaning more toward the seltzers or hard spirits like mezcal and Japanese whisky. While the volume of beer and cider sales also slipped last year by 2.3% and 3.8% respectively, ready-to-drink cocktails increased by almost 50%. It’s no wonder Annheuser Busch launched a line of Bud Light hard seltzers last week.
(I don’t know what young people are thinking. When I was their age, there was only one thing to consider when I was deciding what to drink: What’s on sale!)
(It sounds like it could be the beginning of the “grape depression”.)
(I’m still a wine enthusiast. The more wine I drink, the more enthusiastic I become!)

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT THIS YEAR WITHOUT EXERCISE:
Portion control:  Eat from a smaller plate, but a larger salad bowl. And never eat anything from a package. (Not even ice cream?)
➢ Eat more fiber:  It’s a natural appetite suppressant, and has a good effect on your gut. Get it from whole grains, beans, fruits and veggies. (But it can have a bad effect on your relationship…)
➢ Load up on protein:  It also helps you feel full, and takes a long time to digest. Get it from fish, chicken, turkey, eggs and low-fat dairy (all served on small plates…)
➢ Get enough sleep:  It all comes down to hormones…sleep deprivation leads to weight gain. When you’re tired, you’re also more likely to grab hi-carb comfort foods.
➢ Weigh yourself:  It can provide some really important feedback before things start to snowball. Experts suggest weighing yourself several times per week (on a scale at a gym…that is a 5-mile run from your place…)
➢ Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate:  Sometimes when you think you’re hungry, you’re actually thirsty. In between meals, and before a snack or meal, try drinking a big glass of water. And carry a bottle with you throughout the day.  (Just make sure it’s not plastic, or everyone will hate you!)
➢ Cut down on sugar:  Not only can it lead to weight gain itself, it also tends to be found in foods that are very high in calories. And remember, it is found in all kinds of foods…like bread, salad dressing, and peanut butter. (Please tell me there’s no sugar in ketchup…)
➢ Eat more mindfully:  Slow down, chew more, and don’t be distracted when you’re eating. You’ll be more likely to notice when you’re full, and eat less as a result.
(And if you’re trying to GAIN weight, do the opposite of everything I’ve just said!)
