BS SHOWBIZ BUZZ:
★ Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on set of “Rust,” is suing the film’s ammo supplier, Seth Kenney and PDQ Arm and Prop, claiming that she could have prevented the fatal accident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins if she was allowed in to the rehearsal space. She alleges that Kenney supplied filmmakers with a mix of live rounds and dummy rounds that led to the accident on set. She also suggests that Kenney had access to the set and knew the code to the gun safe. She’s seeking a jury trial.

★ Amid news from ABC that the Oscars will return to having a host for the first time since 2018, Twitter has been throwing out all sorts of suggestions on who should take the job. And Judd Apatow thinks the show should turn to legendary comedy pals Steve Martin and Martin Short. He tweeted “It would be pure joy and we need that.” The Oscar nominees will be announced on Feb. 8, with the ceremony taking place March 27.

★ Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone” is finally a major television awards contender after 4 seasons, thanks to the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The family western drama is nominated in the top category of ensemble in a television drama. That’s the first major awards recognition for Yellowstone, which up until now only boasted one Creative Arts Emmys nomination for production design for a narrative contemporary program (one hour or more).

★ Ryan Seacrest has a hack for eating Thin Mints, though his TV co-host Kelly Ripa won’t be trying it anytime soon. On Wednesday’s episode of “Live with Kelly and Ryan”, Seacrest told Ripa about his favorite way to enjoy the Girl Scout Cookies classic. He explained that combing Thin Mints in Grape Nuts cereal is “life-changing” — and something he’s been doing since he was a kid. Ripa immediately knocked the idea, asking: “You want mint-flavored cereal?” with a disgusted expression on her face. Seacrest countered that, actually, “It’s mint milk!” and “It’s good!”

On The Neighborhood Talk’s Instagram page, he wrote that he didn’t lose anything, and had no clue about bag the woman was referencing. In a viral clip taken in Atlanta, the woman is shown on camera, while a man is heard saying, “We found Nelly’s bag. It had $300,000 in it.”
• Britney Spears – is hinting at writing her memoir. On Instagram, she posted a pic of a typewriter next to a bed of pink roses, with the caption: “Shall I start from THE BEGINNING???”
• Coldplay — Chris Martin says he wanted to start a band because of “Back To The Future”. He told Kelly Clarkson that seeing Michael J. Fox’s performance of ‘Johnny B. Goode’ in the movie was the spark he needed, and it was a “wonderful moment” years later when Fox, who played ‘Marty McFly’ in the trilogy, joined the band onstage to perform the song.
• Rush — Alex Lifeson’s new ‘Envy of None’ project has dropped its first single, “Liar.” The band includes Coney Hatch founding bassist Andy Curran, singer-songwriter Maiah Wynne and producer and engineer Alfio Annibalini. • Tim McGraw — Jo Dee Messina says she has him to thank for her 1996 debut album. She says her label, only wanted her to record 3 or 4 songs, then McGraw stepped up. He told execs “She deserves a whole album” and offered to pay the recording costs. The ensuing sessions yielded the hit ‘Heads Carolina, Tails Carolina’, and her debut album sold over 500,000 copies, launching her career.

TIGHT SHIP:
For many cruise lovers, living on a ship permanently is a life goal, but because of the cost, an extremely unrealistic one. But a new “residential community at sea” is hoping to change that by offering a “more affordable” chance to live on a cruise ship. “Storylines”, dubbed a “residential community at sea,” is scheduled to set sail in 2024. Storylines’ debut ship features suites from 1 to 4 bedrooms, as well as studios and a few 2-story penthouses, starting at $400,000 . . . and up to an eye-popping $8 million. There are also a limited number of 12 and 24-year leases. The vessel, dubbed the “MV Narrative”, features 20 restaurants and bars, a microbrewery, 3 swimming pools, a bowling alley, movie theater and spa, plus a solar-powered hydroponic garden, a 10,000-book library and an education program for children. Most of the Narrative’s 547 units have already been sold, according to founder and CEO Alister Punton. But although the $400k figure for a “spot on the water” may sound affordable compared to what you’d pay to live on other residential cruise ships, keep in mind the “living fee” in the range of $65,000 to $200,000 annually, to cover the all-inclusive living experience.
(Plus, you know, there’s COVID…and you’re on a CRUISE SHIP!)
(It’s still a lot, but think of the money you’d save on lawnmower gas!)

HUNG OUT TO DRY:
Despite all the so-called “proven” hangover cures, according to a new study – you guessed it — there’s actually no scientific evidence that any of them work. A review by researchers in London found only low-quality studies when examining nearly 2 dozen different substances claiming to prevent alcohol-induced hangovers, including clove extract, red ginseng, Korean pear juice, probiotics, and prescription drugs. In a release, the lead author of the study said “evidence of these hangover remedies is of very low quality and there is a need to provide more rigorous assessment. For now, the surest way of preventing hangover symptoms is to abstain from alcohol or drink in moderation.”
(Nothing about “the hair of the dog that bit ya”, huh?)
(Did anyone think of taking an Aspirin?)
(So, nothing in the world can make a hangover better? That’s exactly what I say – every January first!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ An Indian man who ran in his village election last month only received one vote – despite the fact that he has at least 2 dozen family members eligible to cast a ballot. Santosh Halpati ran for the decision-making position of Sarpanch in Chharwala, and even though he wasn’t really expecting to win, he certainly didn’t think he’d receive just one vote, his own. He told reporters that he has 12 close family members who were eligible to vote, and several had assured him of their votes. (Welcome to the wonderful world of politics, Santosh!)
➢ Military recruits in Norway have been ordered to return their underwear, bras and socks after the end of their service so they can be re-used. The Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization said because of “a challenging stockpile situation” the move is necessary. Press spokesman Hans Meisingset said that with “proper checks and cleaning, the reuse of garments is considered an adequate and sound practice.” Until recently, the roughly 8,000 young men and women who every year do their military service returned their outer clothing, but were allowed to leave barracks with the underwear and socks they were issued. Military service is mandatory in Norway and lasts 12-19 months. (Usually, they have trouble getting the new recruits to keep their underpants ON!)

DID YOU KNOW?
If you’re a fan of the card game “Uno”, you’d better buckle in. The new game “UNO All Wild” is available now, and, because 2022, every card is wild in this version of the game. Manufacturer Mattel says that this twist increases the pace and unpredictability of the game. Another change — 5 new cards: Wild Reverse, Wild Skip and Skip 2, Wild Forces Swap and Wild Targeted Draw 2. The company says: “There’s no matching of number or color like regular UNO, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. Special Action Cards really change the game!”

• “National Without a Scalpel Day”, What do heart disease, stroke, aneurysms, and uterine fibroids have in common? They’re among a handful of conditions that can now be treated without surgery.
