BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The results are in, and Netflix definitely dominated the Nielsen US streaming charts for 2022, led by originals “Stranger Things”, “Wednesday”, and “Ozark”, as well as acquisitions like “NCIS”. Netflix took 11 of the top 15 spots on the overall streaming list, and 13 spots among the streaming originals. Stranger Things came in at #1 on both lists with 52 billion minutes viewed across the 34 episodes of the series. Ozark came in at #2, and Wednesday at #3, among originals, an impressive feat considering the new series only has 8 episodes.

★ “Bridgerton” star Regé-Jean Page is the most handsome man in the world, says science. A cosmetic surgeon has determined that Page’s face is 93.65% perfect in terms of the Golden Ratio, the concept that measures the symmetry of a person’s face and determines their apparent attractiveness. Other hunky men who follow close behind Page include Chris Hemsworth with 93.53% and Michael B. Jordan with 93.46%. Harry Styles came in fourth at 92.30%, and British soccer player Jude Bellingham came in hot at 92.22%. The data was compiled by Dr. Julian De Silva, a British plastic surgeon, using computer technology.

★ Pamela Anderson says she gained 25 pounds while writing her story. The 55-year-old actress says she had a “physical reaction” to penning her new book “Love, Pamela” because she gained a “puffy suit of armour”, even though her regular diet regime didn’t change. In an interview, she said: She said: “It was almost like I was hanging on to something…I was thinking it was some kind of protection.” Admitting she “was a mess” at the time she was writing the book, she says she “peeled back everything: No make-up, nothing like that, and I thought, ‘You know what? If you like me like this — if you like me at my worst, maybe you like me.'”

★ After facing criticism for including 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong on their list of nominees, the Razzies have backtracked. The Golden Raspberry Awards, known for honoring what they call the worst movies and performances of the year, came under fire for placing the “Firestarter” actress in the Worst Actress category. Armstrong’s name was taken from the ballot, Razzies creator John Wilson said in a statement, and he apologized. Under-18s will no longer be eligible Razzies. In his statement, Wilson said: “We have never intended to bury anyone’s career…We all make mistakes, very much us included.” LINK:

★ Kim Kardashian’s daughter North West is heading to the big screen, breaking into the acting game in the same flick her mom has a part in. The 9-year-old has been cast in the upcoming sequel, “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie”, lending her voice alongside Kim, who’s reprising her role as ‘Delores’ from the 2021 film. CHEESEY NEWS:
➠ Many foods we assume to be bad for us – including cheddar cheese and chocolate bars — can actually provide our bodies with significant health benefits. Lisa Young, a registered dietician at New York University, points out that we tend to view food as either good or bad for us, but, “Generally, a small portion of [any] food is OK”. When it comes to cheese, while it is high in calories, it “provides protein [and] calcium, so there is definitely a place in the diet for cheese.” She also points out health benefits to eating potatoes, peanut butter, eggs, butter, and yes, candy bars. (Or at least the ones containing dark chocolate…you know, the kind you hate!)
➠ Slumber resource company Sleep Junkie is offering $1,000 to 5 people to eat cheese before bed. Those lucky enough to be selected will slice their way through several types of cheeses each week, and keep a record of their dreams and nightmares. Sleep Junkie is calling for “self-starters, honest, with good writing skills and [who] enjoy both sleeping and eating” to apply for the study, which will take place between March and May. The company says its “dairy dreamers will become our official cheese testers, providing honest feedback on how eating various kinds of cheese before bed impacts their sleep quality.” Those who score the job will not only be paid $1,000, their “cheese costs” will be covered as well. (Never mind the money. Just throw in some eggs, and we’ll call it even!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Winnipeg MB school division has classified the sport of curling as a “high risk” activity. École Tuxedo Park students were invited to participate in 3 learn-to-curl sessions, but first, parents were asked to sign and submit permission slips. In doing so, they were expected to acknowledge that accidents can happen and the school division provides no insurance coverage for ambulance costs or other incidental medical expenses. The document reads, in part: “I understand that curling is considered a high-risk activity by Pembina Trails School Division.” Participants were also encouraged to wear approved helmets. Thomas Rempel-Ong, a parent of one of the prospective curlers, said he couldn’t help but laugh when he read the division’s classification of the non-contact sport: “How did we get to this point where, in a sense, we’re telling parents that letting your kid on the ice is a high-risk activity? This is Canada.” (Look out, shuffleboard…they’re coming for you next!)
➢ A Rhode Island girl came up with a novel way to answer the age-old question of whether Santa Claus is real. She sent a partially eaten cookie and a few gnawed-on carrot sticks to the Cumberland police department, asking if they can be tested for DNA. The girl, whose name hasn’t been revealed, wrote: “I took a sample of a cookie and carrots that I left for Santa and the raindeer on Christmas Eve and I was wondering if you could take a sample of DNA and see if Santa is real?” Chief Matthew Benson forwarded the “evidence” to the state’s Department of Health-Forensic Sciences unit for analysis. The department form says: “Items to be examined for traces of DNA and compared with profiles on record for the above-named suspect/aliases.” The charge? “Failure to finish snacks.” The Department of Health returned its analysis, saying it was not able “to definitively confirm or refute the presence of Santa”. (I don’t want to burst too many bubbles here, but if they found her father’s DNA, it would have brought a whole other meaning to ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’!)

DID YOU KNOW?
If you’re a proponent of the healing effects of essential oils, it turns out that you’re RIGHT! Researchers in Iran concluded that the scent of rose oil can effectively reduce job stress. In an experiment that analyzed the aromas’ impact on nurses, they found: “During inhalation, essential oil molecules stimulate the olfactory nerves having direct links with the limbic system and are responsible for emotions.” The study authors added that the aromatherapy oils reduce “sympathetic stimulations” that, in turn, lower stress. (But they stopped short of recommending guys substitute rose oil scent for traditional long-stemmed roses on Valentines Day!)

BS CHRONOMETER 01.27.23

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “International Holocaust Remembrance Day”, commemorating the victims of the holocaust initiated by the WWII Nazi regime and its collaborators. On January 27 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp, was liberated by the Soviet Red Army.
• “Vietnam Peace Day”, observed on the anniversary of the 1973 peace deal signed in Paris that brought an end to America’s (then) longest war.
• “Punch the Clock Day”, a day to calmly do your job stress-free, then go home and enjoy your real life (interrupted every 15 minutes by a work email or text…)
• Fun At Work Day”, because experts say when we enjoy our work, we’re more productive. Here are a few suggestions for having fun at work . . .

✓ Find out where your boss shops, and buy the same exact outfits. Always wear them one day after your boss does. (Especially effective if your boss is of a different gender.)
✓ Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that.
✓ Include a piece of your kid’s artwork as a cover page for all reports you write.
✓ When answering your phone, talk in a fake British accent.
✓ Make up corny nicknames for all your co-workers and refer to them only by these names. (“That’s a good point, Sparky.”)
✓ Take a picture of your boss, have it framed, and display it prominently on your desk.
✓ Leave the photocopy machine set to reduce 200%, extra dark, 17-inch paper, 99 copies.
✓ Send e-mail to the company DL, telling them EXACTLY what you’re doing. (“If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the bathroom.”)
✓ Pretend your computer mouse is a CB radio mic. Talk to it.

• “Big Wig Day”, another way you could have fun at work today. LINK: https://nationalbigwigday.com/
• “Thomas Crapper Day”, in honor of the man who invented the toilet flush mechanism, on the anniversary of his death in 1910. Thomas Crapper & Co became engineers by appointment to the English ‘throne’. (Perhaps you’d like a souvenir to mark this fine occasion…LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y64rfdcn )
• “National Geographic Day”, marking the 1888 foundation of the National Geographic Society in Washington DC by a group of geographers, explorers, teachers, lawyers, cartographers, military officers, and financiers. (Just like National Geographic, [***co-host***] has issues going waaaay back!)
• “National Chocolate Cake Day”, there’s no shame in overindulging in dessert today, as long as it’s chocolate cake! Made with melted chocolate, cocoa powder, or both, chocolate cakes were first baked in the late 19th century.

SATURDAY-
• “Daisy Day”, celebrating the flower that symbolizes innocence and purity (also the best one for playing “he loves me, he loves me not”)
• “Blueberry Pancake Day”, because they’re nutritious enough to eat for breakfast, tasty enough for a mid-day snack, and easy enough to make for dinner. (If you can’t find your napkin, it’s probably stuck to your elbow…) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y5vlwa5s
• “Data Privacy Day”, to raise awareness about the importance of protecting your personal info online. It’s observed in Canada, the USA, and 27 European countries. (Because when companies say “We value your privacy” …what they really mean is “We put a value on your privacy!”) LINK: http://tinyurl.com/zogpja5
• “LEGO Day”, to celebrate these ingenious and enriching toys. How? You could visit a Legoland theme park (in Carlsbad, CA, Winter Haven, FL and other places — there’s also a Legoland Discovery Center in Tempe, AZ), you could watch one of the “Lego” movies, or you could simply build something with Lego. (Go all out and invite a kid to join you…)
• “Kazoo Day”, honoring the (annoying) musical instrument that even the most untalented can play.
• “Pop Art Day”, celebrated annually on the anniversary of Jackson Pollock’s birth. His works are classified as abstract expressionism, very different from the pop art of artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.

SUNDAY-
• “Corn Chip Day”.  The corn chip is made from cornmeal which is baked or fried in oil. Although it originated in Mexico, the US patent was granted in 1932. (***Ask listeners to put a half-dozen in their mouth and whistle a tune***)
• “Curmudgeons Day”, an annual celebration of the crusty, yet insightful, wags who consistently apply the needle of truth to the balloons of hypocrisy and social norms. Celebrated on the birthday of late comedian WC Fields, one of the all-time most beloved curmudgeons.
• “Seeing Eye Dog Day”, commemorating ‘The Seeing Eye’, North America’s first guide dog school which opened in Nashville, Tennessee on this date in 1929.
• “Puzzle Day”, celebrating one of our all-time favorite pastimes. What’s your favorite: Jigsaw or Crossword?
• “National Carnation Day”, honoring the memory of President William McKinley. The carnation was said to be McKinley’s favorite flower, and he always wore one on his lapel.
