6500 – That’s A Lotta “BS”!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Production on latest installment in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise has been halted following an injury suffered by a stuntman on set on Monday. A Universal Pictures spokesperson said: “We had an injury on the set of Fast 9…in Leavesden with one of our stuntmen. We have halted production for the day to focus on this situation.” Details regarding the severity of the injury and how long production on “Fast & Furious 9” will be delayed were not disclosed.

★ To help promote HGTV’s upcoming series about the renovation of the “Brady Bunch House,” Discovery is bringing the “Brady Bunch” to some of its other networks. The cast members of the 1970s series will appear in episodes of “Fast N’ Loud,” “Chopped,” “Worst Cooks in America,” “The Kitchen” and “The Pioneer Woman,” which air on Food Network and Discovery Channel. These episodes will air in August and September, leading up to the debut of “A Very Brady Renovation.”
(“Starting next month, whenever you turn on your TV, it’s ‘Marcia, Marcia, Marcia’!”)

★ While it’s now been revealed that the “Tom Cruise” who shocked fans with his appearance dressed as Top Gun’s ‘Maverick’ at Comic Con was an impersonator, a new trailer for the “Top Gun” sequel is stirring up controversy as well, because it shows Cruise putting on the iconic bomber jacket he wore in the original film — but with two key changes. In the trailer of “Top Gun: Maverick,” two jacket patches that had originally shown the Japanese and Taiwanese flags, appear to have been swapped out and replaced with ambiguous symbols in the same color scheme — leading to social media speculation that the swap was done to appease China. Chinese and Japanese relations have strained for some time, and Chinese tech giant “Tencent” is one of Paramount’s partners on the movie, which is slated for release next summer.

★ Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are reportedly engaged. They met while filming the 2013 movie “Her” and fell in love on the set of  the 2016’s “Mary Magdalene”. The pair moved in together in 2017 and they were linked to engagement rumours in May after she was spotted wearing a large diamond ring on her wedding finger.

★ Gordon Ramsay headed to Peru for the premiere of his new series “Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted” on Sunday, but not everybody was impressed. One segment saw Ramsay chow down on roasted guinea pig, and some viewers shared their disgust on Twitter. And what he said about the dish didn’t help: “I can’t feature roasted guinea pig on my menus…in the U.S. — I would be taken down. You do not know what you’re missing. I am telling you now, delicious.” One clip featured in the show also saw Ramsay drink a shot of spirit that had been preserved with a gecko inside.

The Italian luxury fashion label has collaborated with the clothing label Concepts to remake the legendary jungle print as a unisex shoe named “Chain Reaction” which will retail for $1075.
• Queen – Their 1975 hit ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ has become the first pre-1990s music video to reach one billion plays on YouTube. The six-minute promo clip, which is often hailed as a pioneering example of the music video, hit the milestone over the weekend.
• David Bowie – A new video for his classic ‘Space Oddity’, remixed by his longtime producer, was unveiled on Saturday, the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing – at a NASA event in Washington. • Keith Urban – His wife Nicole Kidman is opening up about ‘Gemini’, a song from his latest album, “Graffiti U”. The song, co-written by Urban, contains the line: “She’s a maniac in the bed, but a brainiac in the head.” And yes, it is about Kidman. She says: “I don’t censor his art, but it is a little embarrassing. (But) it’s better than saying ‘God, I’m so bored. Make an effort, Nicole!”

This will be the third leg of the tour, with 19 new dates beginning Oct. 10 in Grand Rapids, Mich. and continuing through Dec. 6 in Phoenix, Ariz. Devin Dawson, Tucker Beathard and Kylie Morgan will serve as rotating opening acts.

LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE:
A supermarket in the Netherlands has created a checkout line designed specifically for customers who would like to have time to enjoy a bit of chit-chat while they are paying for their groceries. The Dutch grocery store “Vlijimen” decided that with the recent trend in the business toward self-service, many of their senior customers, as well as others who feel lonely, may be even more isolated as a result. So, they came up with the “Chat Checkout”, where people who would like some conversation can take a bit more time to talk with a friendly cashier. Research shows that chatting for just 5 minutes with a stranger can make people feel happier and less isolated.
(Should we be calling this the “express-yourself” lane?)
(I know a few cashiers who were BORN to work in this lane!)
(Better get the green bananas if you’re going through that line!)

YOU MAY NOT “LIKE” THIS:
They liked how the initial trial went so much that they’re expanding it. Instagram has been hiding the “likes” count on posts to their site as a response to criticism that how many likes a post receives can have an effect on peoples’ mental health, because it can make people feel bad in comparison to others. Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, began the test in Canada in May, and has now expanded it to Ireland, Italy, Japan, Australia, Brazil and New Zealand. Usually, Facebook tests new features in smaller markets before bringing them to the US.
(Not counting likes may be good for SOME peoples’ mental health, but it’s gonna drive the Kardashians NUTS!)
(I suppose a “poo” emoji reaction in the future is out of the question?)
(What does it say about the number of ‘likes’ that I receive when I say I didn’t even notice?)

MYTHS ABOUT SUMMER DANGERS:
➢ Mayonnaise causes food poisoning:  Research published in the Journal of Food Protection said it best: “Salmonella, [two types of] E. coli, (and other bacteria) die when inoculated into mayonnaise and dressings.” That means that adding mayonnaise to food may actually reduce the risk that other ingredients could make you sick. (I still wouldn’t leave the potato salad in the sun during the company picnic – you could end up with a “STAFF infection”!)
➢ You Can’t Be Allergic to Bee Stings If You’ve Never Been Stung:  Anyone can be allergic to bee stings, even if they’ve never encountered a bee in their life. If you do have an allergic reaction to your first sting, it is unlikely to “be” fatal. (No pun intended…)
➢ Char Is the Best Part of Grilling:  The high temperatures involved with grilling create two potent carcinogens. One happens when fat drips off of the meat, and the BBQ sends burned carbon up through the smoke; the other comes from the reaction of a the meat when exposed to searing temperatures, creating that telltale char. The best protection against this is to thoroughly marinate your steak. (When I was growing up, we thought “char” was a type of meat!)
➢ The Higher Your Sunscreen’s SPF, the Better:  In general, the higher the SPF, the more of the sun’s rays a sunscreen blocks. But not by much: SPF 15 sunscreen blocks 93 percent of UVB radiation, but SPF 30 only raises that protection to 97 percent, and SPF 50 raises it to just 98 percent. And while an SPF 15 might protect you for 5 hours, sweat, water and general friction can degrade your SPF application, so experts say you should reapply every 2 hours anyway…
➢ Citronella Repels Mosquitos:  A 2017 study that tested mosquito-repelling products, including bracelets, sonic repellers, and a citronella candle found that none of them had any effect. The citronella candle actually attracted more mosquitoes to their human participant than when it wasn’t there. (I think I have the same effect…)

DID YOU KNOW?
The difference between a graveyard and a cemetery is that a graveyard sits alongside a church, whereas a cemetery does not.

• “Drive-Thru Day”, honoring the businesses that allow you to shop without leaving your vehicle. Ours is a funeral home.

• “Tell an Old Joke Day”, a good excuse to dust off your best chicken-crossing-the-road zinger (***and ask listeners to tell their best jokes … but only if they’re under 5-years-old***) What do you call a bear with no teeth? A gummy bear! What do you call cheese that isn’t yours? Nacho cheese!

• “Tequila Day”, celebrating Mexico’s national booze that’s becoming increasingly popular in other drinks beside margaritas. But we still like it the old-fashioned way – a little salt, a slice of lime and … ay caramba!

• “Amelia Earhart Day”, honoring the famous aviation pioneer. During an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean. To this day, theories and speculation still exist about the cause of her disappearance. Some theories involve conspiracies, and even alien abductions.
