Bully For You!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The transgender community has applauded Scarlett Johansson’s decision to leave the movie “Rub and Tug” after tearing the actress to shreds for taking on the role in the first place. Johansson was cast to play a transgender man, and initially made a sarcastic comment about the backlash she was receiving. In new statement, Johansson said, “While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante’s story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person, and I am thankful that this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film.” She also said that she now realizes that her first statement on the matter was “insensitive.”

★ Some politicians are going through the several stages of panic when it comes to doing an interview with a disguised Sacha Baron Cohen: remorse, damage control, anger and regret for being fooled. After Sarah Palin revealed last week that Baron Cohen “duped” her into flying cross-country for a sham interview, now one of his latest targets, defeated Senate candidate Roy Moore, is threatening a defamation lawsuit over an upcoming episode of the comedian’s new television series. Moore wrote on Facebook that “I did not know…that a…TV series was being planned to embarrass, humiliate, and mock not only Israel, but also religious conservatives such as Sarah Palin, Joe Walsh, and Dick Cheney…If Showtime airs a defamatory attack on my character, I may very well be involved in another (lawsuit).”

★ Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for former “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush — his wife has filed divorce. He separated from Sydney Davis about 10 months ago. At the time, they announced their split by saying, “After almost 20 years of marriage, they have separated for the moment to evaluate their life together.” The couple have three teenagers. Billy Bush has remained out of the public eye since his abrupt firing from “Today” after the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape with Donald Trump surfaced.

★Abigail Breslin, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Emma Stone, are all returning for the “Zombieland” sequel. The original, which came out in 2009, was directed by Ruben Fleischer. Sanford Panitch, the president for Columbia Pictures, says that “Zombieland 2” is “of those projects that fans” have been eagerly anticipating for a while, and so has the cast. Production will begin in January, and the movie is scheduled for an October 2019 release.

★ Kate Upton has revealed she’s expecting her first child. The 26-year-old model – who is married to baseball star Justin Verlander – revealed her happy news with a photograph shared on Instagram on Saturday, which showed her sporting a slight baby bump while standing on a balcony of a room at the W South Beach hotel in Miami. Just in case that wasn’t clear enough, she used the hashtag #PregnantinMiami.

★ Conor McGregor and his girlfriend have announced some major news … she’s pregnant again. Dee Devlin made the reveal on her Instagram, saying … “Happy 30th birthday babe! Thank you for being you! Love you to bits from me, Conor jr and the bump.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Miley Cyrus – has deleted her Instagram account –and fans are flipping out. Her Twitter is still up and running with the profile photos blacked-out, but her official website is completely down. Fans seem convinced that this is a viral marketing campaign like that of Taylor Swift, who deleted her account as a way to announce the “Reputation” era.
• Mac Miller (***Caution: language***) – has seemingly addressed his bitter split with Ariana Grande on his new song ‘Self Care’. In it, Miller raps: “Well, didn’t know what I was missing / Now it see a lil’ different …”We play it cool / We know we f***ed up, yeah / You keep on sayin’ you in love, so? / Tell me are you really down?”
• Michael Bublé – became emotional during his first performance since 2016 in London’s Hyde Park on Friday. The show marked his first concert since he and wife Luisana Lopilato revealed in November 2016 that their son Noah (now 4) was diagnosed with liver cancer. Noah, now cancer-free, was on hand to watch his dad perform, with Bublé even bringing his son onstage at one point.
• Frank Sinatra – His first wife Nancy has died at the age of 101. Nancy and Ol’ Blue Eyes dated as teens and married in 1939, and she worked as secretary to help support the family while he started his singing career. They divorced in 1951. The Nancy Sinatra of “These Boots are Made for Walkin” fame was one of their three children.
• Foo Fighters – had John Travolta join them on stage and do a few dance moves while the group covered the Grease anthem ‘You’re the One That I Want’ at their show in Wantagh, NY on Saturday.
• Blink 182 – Drummer Travis Barker was involved in a car accident with a school bus in Calabasas, California on Friday. He was reportedly left feeling dazed following the collision, which happened when he was making a left turn. There were no children on the bus at the time and Travis was not at fault.
• Paul Simon – is taking a do over with ten of his classic songs on a new studio album called “In The Blue Light”. Simon says (ha!): “This album consists of songs that I thought were almost right, or were odd enough to be overlooked the first time around.” The album’s Sept. 7 release coincides with the final leg of his “Homeward Bound – Farewell Tour”.
• Eric Church – drew from a difficult period in his life when he wrote his new single, ‘Desperate Man’. He says it was inspired by the emotional aftermath of the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas in October 2017.
• Jess Moskaluke – She and Brett Kissel lead the Canadian Country Music Association nominations list with six each. Moskaluke is nominated for the Apple Music Fans’ Choice Award, Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Single of the Year, Video of the Year and Songwriter(s) of the Year. The CCMAs will be handed out September 9.

WALK THIS WAY:
Most of know that walking is a healthy activity. And that we should walk briskly to maximize that benefit. But how fast is ‘brisk’? A new study says that a ‘brisk’ pace is perhaps not as fast as it sounds: 100 steps per minute, which is about 2.7 mph for most people. Previous guidelines on ‘brisk’ walking have been vague, suggesting it should increase your heart rate to 70% of its maximum, or use about three times as much energy as you use standing still. The new study, which was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, also determined that vigorous walking requires about 130 steps per minute, and jogging generally starts at about 140 steps per minute.
(Not that I have to worry about THAT!)
(I think I could work up to 100 steps per minute. Baby steps…literally!)
(The only time I ever reach 140 steps a minute is when I’m walking the dog and it starts to rain!)

HANDY IN THE KITCHEN:
When you sit down to a meal, whether it is at a barbecue, at a restaurant, or at someone else’s house, you just assume that the people handling your food are doing so after taking the proper precautions to make sure that their hands are clean. But are they? A U.S. Department of Agriculture study that found that people wash their hands incorrectly 97% of the time. The USDA partnered with North Carolina State University to conduct an observational study using 383 unknowing participants at test kitchens in the Raleigh-Durham region of North Carolina. The kitchens had hidden cameras to see how people washed their hands before preparing food. Only 3% of those in the study were able to wash their hands correctly. Among the most common hand-washing errors: Failing to wash hands for the necessary 20 seconds, and not drying them with a clean towel.
(I’m guessing “wiping hands on jeans” doesn’t qualify as a ‘clean towel’?)
(You just might want to stay away from the restaurants in North Carolina!)

BULL’S BITS

BS WACK FACTS:
✓ Researchers have found that the average person will form about 400 friendships during a lifetime, but only 33 will last.
✓ Worrying too much is scientifically associated with higher intelligence.
✓ You can’t smell your own house due to a survival instinct called “olfactory adaptation”. The brain is always looking for new or unusual smells which could mean danger, so it ignores familiar smells.
✓ Cats are the only known animal, aside from humans, that prefer to be given things freely rather than having to work for them.
✓ An ant can survive a fall from almost any height, because their terminal velocity would never be high enough to injure them.
✓ If you drilled a tunnel through the Earth and jumped in, it would take 42-53 minutes to fall through to the other side.
