★ Disgraced NFLer-turned-movie actor-turned incarcerated convict OJ Simpson was the first choice to play “The Terminator” it’s been revealed as part of a 30th anniversary salute to the mega-hit movie. Studio executive Mike Medavoy admits he wanted Simpson to front the film, with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the 1984 sci-fi blockbuster’s hero. But director James Cameron was far from sold on the idea and Schwarzenegger eventually landed the title role while Michael Biehn was cast as hero ‘Kyle Reese’. (While OJ might have been believable chasing a woman around with a knife but can you picture him threatening convincingly, “I’ll be back!”?)

★ In the last few months 46-year-old actor Liev Schreiber has suffered a broken nose … twice. The first incident occurred while visiting a boxing gym in Montréal after he ill-advisedly stepped into the ring with a 24-year-old Ukrainian fighter, inspired by onlookers who recognized him as ‘Sabretooth’ from “X-Men” movies. The 2nd incident occurred while filming his TV series “Ray Donovan”, when he walked into a wall while shooting a scene in a glass house. (Here’s a guy who should always wear a helmet … with a face guard.)

★ And 55-year-old Brit actor Sean Bean says he’s open to the possibility of returning to “Game of Thrones” (HBO). Despite the tragic fate of his character ‘Ned Stark’ during the show’s 1st season, he’s just learned that there’s a way for him to be featured again and he’s excited about it. While it would only be flashback scenes in season 5 that revive the character, he says he’s stoked to get aboard the hit series again. (Because in the meantime he’s been doing … OMG nothing.)

• Bruno Mars – He’s announced some new openers for his “Moonshine Jungle World Tour”, including Aloe Blacc, Bebe Rexha, and Nico & Vinz. Due to a schedule conflict, Pharrell will no longer appear as special guest on the Canadian dates that begin Wednesday in Montréal.
• Florida Georgia Line – They’ve gone from #40 to #1 in a single week as “Dirt” sits atop the ‘Billboard Hot Country Songs’ chart for this week.
• Johnny Winter – A final album by the late blues guitarist, who passed away last Wednesday, is due out September 2nd. Titled “Step Back”, it features appearances by Eric Clapton, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry among others.
• Justin Bieber – Celebrity hot spot Bootsy Bellows in West Hollywood is in trouble after Bieber was allegedly seen drinking a Heineken while at the club recently with Chris Brown. In California the legal drinking age is 21; The Biebs is 20. If the story is proven true, Bootsy Bellows, co-owned by actor David Arquette, may be subjected to a fine.
• Lil Wayne – He & Christina Milian allegedly have a romantic relationship. The pair’s dating rumors sparked after they were seen holding hands at the 2014 ESPY Awards on July 16th.
• Maroon 5 – Adam Levine wed long-time girlfriend Behati Prinsloo in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico over the weekend.
• Pearl Jam – Eddie Vedder made headlines in Britain when he launched into an angry, profanity-laced, anti-war speech onstage during a show at Milton Keynes, apparently aimed at Israel. Now he’s written a post on Pearl Jam’s website titled “Imagine That – I’m Still Anti-War”.

FRAGMENTED SLEEP IS AS BAD AS NO SLEEP:
Researchers with Tel Aviv University’s School of Psychological Sciences have set out to prove what many parents of infants and shift workers can confirm … repeated interrupted sleep has a negative effect on mood and attention span. The study followed a sampling of adults through 8 hours of ‘fragmented sleep’ (at least 4 prolonged awakenings). After the night of interrupted sleep participants felt more depressed, fatigued, and confused. They also had less vigor and attention to their daily activities. Perhaps surprisingly, the effects are almost identical with adults getting ‘restricted sleep’ – just 4 hours at a time. (It’s not ‘mommy brain’ that’s making you lose your keys all the time … it’s getting up with the baby several times a night.)
