Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Harrison Ford got crushed by a hydraulic door and pinned to the ground while filming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in June 2014 and, though he recovered in time to finish the movie, a London court has heard this week that he could have been killed. It’s not clear exactly how the accident happened but someone was operating the door at the time. Foodles Production, the company responsible, has pleaded guilty to breaching health & safety regulations but denies the level of risk that is being claimed. The case continues.

★ Ellen Pompeo says she’s decided to stick with “Grey’s Anatomy” because of her age. The 46-year-old has starred as ‘Dr Meredith Grey’ in the ABC-TV medical drama since 2005. The 13th season is due in September. While many cast members have left over the years – such as Patrick Dempsey and Katherine Heigl – Ellen has remained and credits the decision on the worry she wouldn’t be able to land other roles in her mid-40s. If she was younger, she says, she may have left the show to search for ‘other things’.

★ And Tom Hiddleston has beaten out fellow actors Idris Elba and Jamie Dornan to be crowned ‘Rear Of the Year’ in the UK. The 35-year-old actor, who is arguably more well known these days for his relationship with Taylor Swift than acting, is no stranger to stripping off onscreen. A sex scene in the BBC-TV drama “The Night Manager” in which he displays his posterior has quickly become a viral hit online and led to this latest honor. His new nickname … ‘Hiddlesbum’.

• Lady Gaga – Tonight she’s headlining the “Camden Rising” concert just outside Philadelphia PA to coincide with the Democratic National Convention. Lenny Kravitz and Philly’s own DJ Jazzy Jeff are also on the bill. Tickets are available for convention delegates and invited guests.
• The Who – They’re set to perform an acoustic version of their rock opera “Tommy” as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust benefit shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall next year. They haven’t performed the work together in its entirety in 28 years.
COMING ATTRACTIONS:
A BS selection of movies in the making …
• “The Bell Jar” – Kirsten Dunst is making her feature film directorial debut with an adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s iconic novel, starring Dakota Fanning as Plath’s protagonist. Plath’s only novel, written just before her suicide at age 30 in 1963, is about the young adult life of a woman who begins to suffer a mental breakdown after taking on an internship at a magazine in NYC.
• “Chappaquiddick” – This upcoming drama focuses on the 1969 incident in which Senator Ted Kennedy (played by Jason Clarke) gets into a car accident that leaves his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne (Kate Mara), dead. Kennedy’s father, Joe (Bruce Dern), does his best to work behind-the-scenes to protect his last living son and his presidential hopes.
• “The Division” – 39-year-old Jessica Chastain (“The Martian”) is in talks to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Ubisoft’s adaptation of its own hit videogame which came out in March. The story is set in a dystopian NYC in which law & order has broken down after a smallpox epidemic. Gyllenhaal is also producing the project.
• “The Last Days of Night” – Oscar-winning Eddie Redmayne stars in this new drama about the ‘War of Currents’ between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse in the 1880s-90s. Both were racing to establish standard electricity delivery, with Edison’s direct current (DC)-based system competing with Westinghouse’s alternating current (AC). Filming starts in January.
• “A Wrinkle in Time” – 62-year-old Oprah Winfrey is in final negotiations to join the cast of this new Disney film. She’d take on the role of ‘Mrs Which’ in the adaptation of the 1963 children’s book by Madelein L’Engle. It’s the story of a young girl whose scientist father disappears. “Frozen” writer and co-director Jennifer Lee has penned the adaptation.
THIS PLACE IS A REAL DUMP:
A poop-themed café is opening in Toronto ON’s Koreatown next month. The Poop Café Dessert Bar is a result of recent culinary management grad Lien Nguyen visiting the Modern Toilet Restaurant in Taiwan. Nguyen says she’s trying to “make poop cute” by serving brown, stool-shaped food items in dishes shaped like mini toilets. We will concede poop can be kinda cute, at least when it comes in the form of the popular poo emoji. But will it seem so adorable when it applies to food? (Gives whole new meaning to being a ‘regular’.)

BEST PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
A new ranking of cities regarding their subways, city buses, trams, trolleys, ferries, and other public transit modes …
5. St Petersburg, Russia – Its metro is considered one of the most attractive and elegant subway systems in the world as it features well-crafted artwork and many exquisite decorations.
4. Shanghai, China – In 2010 its metro set a record of 7.6 million daily riders. Shanghai also has the world’s most extensive urban bus routes and the world’s oldest trolley system.
3. Lisbon, Portugal – Long known for its iconic yellow & white trams, introduced in the 19th century. Lisbon Metro is now the most important transit component: easy, cheap, and reliable.
2. Jersey City NJ, USA – Almost a half of all local commuters use public transit. Using light rails, buses, and ferries, Jersey City dwellers can easily live without a car.
1. Madrid, Spain – The city has the 2nd-longest metro in Europe, light rail, commuter rail, and buses. And with a single ticket costing about $1.70, its public transport is a great deal.

ULTIMATE SUMMER SNACK:
We all scream for ice cream, but scream even more when it melts in the Summer heat. Gastronaut Ice Cream has solved this problem. Originally designed for astronauts to provide them with a tasty treat in space, the product is freeze-dried. While treating ice cream this way is not a brand-new idea, previous incarnations have suffered from sub-par taste. Gastronaut claims to have fixed this by using super-premium organic ice cream. After it’s freeze-dried, you pop it into your mouth and it’s said to taste just as good as the original. The secret? A touch of sea salt. (With a $9,500 goal, the product has already raised nearly $40,000 on Kickstarter.)

BS THINGS EVERYONE HAS SECRETLY DONE AT THE GYM:
✓ Side-eyed someone while they work out.
✓ Checked yourself out in the mirror and then taken a sly gym selfie.
✓ Not wiped down the machine after you’ve used it.
✓ Gotten completely distracted by what’s on TV to the point that you stop working out.
✓ Looked at the monitor of the person on the machine next to you to compare calories burned.
✓ Walked into a gym class, realized you’ve made a mistake, and walked right back out.
✓ Used the stretching area to have a chat rather than to stretch.
✓ Taken a heavier weight just so you can appear stronger than the person next to you.
✓ Intentionally taken longer on a machine when you know someone is waiting for it.
✓ Passed wind and promptly evacuated the area in case other gym members smelled it.
✓ Spent ages on a post-gym selfie to make you look like you glow rather than like a sweaty pig.

SMOKING BUD VS DRINKING BUD LIGHT:
Canadians may rank among the world’s most prolific drinkers but when it comes to cash spent, they don’t come close to American pot smokers. Seattle WA-based cannabis market intelligence firm Headset says the median cannabis customer in states where pot is legal spends about $850/year on marijuana. By contrast, the average US household spends circa $570 on beer, wine, and spirits per year. In Canada the annual booze bill is just under $700. Most US marijuana customers spend $30-to-$60 when they go to a store. About 35% spend less than $13. The average age at pot dispensaries is just over 37. (Canada’s government has promised to look into legalizing marijuana next year.)
