Another Sheetload of Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Oprah Winfrey has further explained why she does not plan to run for president. She told British Vogue that with all the “non-truths…the crap, the nastiness, the backhanded backroom stuff that goes on — I feel like I could not exist.” She says that she would not be able to do it because it’s “not a clean business. It would kill me.” Winfrey graces the cover of British Vogue’s August issue.
(So she’s going to stick to where everything is pure and innocent and honest…Hollywood???)
-HollywoodReporter
★ Guy Pearce has described Kevin Spacey as being “handsy” on the set of their movie “L.A. Confidential”. Pearce and Spacey both played detectives in the movie and were required to work in close proximity, but when asked about the experience during a recent interview, he alluded that the disgraced Oscar winner had crossed a line. Pearce said that thankfully he was, “29, and not 14.” More than 30 men have come forward to accuse Spacey of sexual misconduct, including Anthony Rapp, who claimed Spacey made sexual advances towards him when he was 14 years old.

★ With Comic-Con International only weeks away, Conan O’Brien has announced his entire guest lineup for the week — including the cast of “Aquaman”. O’Brien, who has filmed Comic-Con-themed episodes for the past four years in San Diego, will wrap up a week of shows Sunday, July 22 with the stars of Aquaman. While specific guests have yet to be announced, it’s expected that Jason Momoa and Amber Heard will be among them.
(It’d be kind of anti-climactic if they weren’t!)
-CBR
★Miles Teller, the star of “Only the Brave”, has been tapped to play the son of Goose and Maverick’s new protégé in the upcoming “Top Gun” sequel “Top Gun: Maverick.” In the original 1986 movie, Goose, played by Anthony Edwards, was the co-pilot to Cruise’s Maverick. Teller is also known for his roles in “Project X” and “War Dogs.”
-Variety
★ A new book claims Bruce Lee may have died from heat stroke. Nearly 45 years after the film and fighting legend’s sudden demise, journalist Matthew Polly, has published a biography called “Bruce Lee: A Life”. While the official cause of Lee’s death was listed in his autopsy report as cerebral edema possibly caused by a sensitivity to a painkiller, Polly suspects it was actually heat stroke that may have taken down the kung fu idol. He says that: “The key to understanding Bruce Lee’s death is that he collapsed 10 weeks before and almost died of the very same thing.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Cardi B – Has made history, becoming the first female rapper with two number ones on the Billboard Hot 100 (‘Bodak Yellow’ and ‘I Like It’ w/ Bad Bunny and J Balvin). The last female to hit the top spot twice was Lady Gaga who went to number one with both ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Poker Face’ in 2008.
• Katharine McPhee – Her May/December romance with David Foster now includes a July proposal. The 34-year-old actress/singer and 68-year-old legendary music producer has been vacationing in Capri, Italy but it is unclear when Foster popped the question.
• The Shins – Keyboardist Richard Swift has passed away at age 41. The musician and producer, who was also a longtime collaborator and touring member of the Black Keys, died as the result of an undisclosed illness Tuesday morning in Tacoma Washington.
• Fyre Festival – Two North Carolina men who attended last year’s disastrous concert event in the Bahamas were granted $5 million in damages. The pair are the first attendees to obtain a judgement against coproducer Billy McFarland, who has pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud and is currently in jail.
• AC/DC – Guitar makers Gretsch have announced that they will be honoring the late Malcolm Young with the release of a signature guitar this November. The ‘G6131-MY’ pays homage to Young’s famously battle-hardened Gretsch Jet, which he nicknamed “The Beast”.
• Tina Turner – Her son, Craig Turner, died of apparent suicide Tuesday. He was 59.  He was found dead by police of an apparent gunshot wound at his Studio City, Calif. home. Craig Turner worked in real estate and was Tina’s firstborn son, with saxophonist Raymond Hill.
• Paul McCartney – Will bring his ‘Freshen Up’ tour to four Canadian cities in September. He’ll play Sept. 17 at Quebec’s Videotron Centre, Sept. 20 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Sept. 28 at Winnipeg’s Bell MTS Place, and Sept. 30 at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The tour is in support of McCartney’s new album “Egypt Station”, which drops Sept. 7.
• Wolfgang Van Halen – His years-in-the-making solo album is finally done, according to his producer. Van Halen apparently plays all of the instruments and sings all the vocals on the album. No title or release date has been announced.
• Blake Shelton – jokes that he’s stalking his partner Gwen Stefani after attending the first three of her Las Vegas residency shows. He posted on Twitter: ”So far @gwenstefani has performed 3 shows in Las Vegas. I have been to 3… #stalker”.
• Dan + Shay – Their self-titled album has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, while their single, ‘Tequila’ has hit the top of the Country Airplay chart after a 25-week climb.
• Eric Church – His official fan club has confirmed that Eric’s brother has passed away. Brandon Church was a founding member of the Mountain Boys and co-wrote a few songs with Eric on his early albums. Fans are being encouraged to donate to a Scholarship Memorial Fund created on Brandon’s behalf.

NO PHONE SERVICE:
What would you be willing to do in order to avoid losing your smartphone privileges for a week? Some of us would go to extremes. As it turns out, in a survey, 41% of millennials ages 18 to 34 said they would be willing stop washing their hair for a week if it meant keeping their phone for that same period of time. The survey also showed that about 54% would be willing to give up movies and TV for a month, while 28% said they would be willing to give up their pet. 23% chose their phone over caffeine, and a 17% say they’d actually rather give up their toothbrush than their phone for a month.
(Going strictly by observation, I’m thinking some of the people I saw downtown yesterday are doing just that!)
(I’ve gotta say that if it came down to choosing between my phone and my toothbrush, pretty soon I’d have a pretty good idea of where all the phone booths are in my neighborhood!)
(Why have your phone if you can’t brush your teeth? Nobody’s going to swipe right anyway!)

UNIVERSAL TRUTH:
Maybe we are all alone after all. A new study by researchers at Oxford University’s Future of Humanity Institute applied existing knowledge of biology, chemistry, and cosmology to the Drake equation. The Drake equation was created by astronomer Frank Drake in 1961 as an attempt to calculate the number of intelligent civilizations that could be in our galaxy. He included factors like the average rate of star formation and the average lifespan of intelligent civilizations. Using this methodology, they calculated that there is a 53 to 99.6 % chance we’re alone in the galaxy, and a 39 to 85% chance we’re the only intelligent life to be found in the entire universe. And besides, as one of the researchers put it, if there is intelligent life out there, “Where are they?” And if they are out there, alien life forms are probably so far away that they are “forever unreachable.”
(And that could be a good thing!)
(How does one know the average lifespan of intelligent civilizations?)
(Well, nobody’s going to make a cool sci-fi movie out of this information!)

CARPOOL KARAOKE COME TO LIFE:
I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but the world’s first taxi that you pay by singing has been introduced in Finland. “Fortum Singalong Shuttle” is a taxi service that only accepts singing as payment. Fortum Singalong Shuttle is a rideshare service which uses emission-free electric cars. They say that their drivers will not accept cash or credit cards, and that the car keeps on moving “as long as you keep singing.” Fortum is a clean-energy company who came up with the idea as a way of showing people how comfortable and easy it is to drive an electric car. They say that their silent electric cars make it possible to enjoy singing without background noise.
(I’m sure that if they ever heard me sing, they’s be a bit hesitant to call them “emission-free.”)
(I think I’d rather sit in uncomfortable silence while trying to think of a way to make smalltalk with the driver, thank you very much!)
(Why not? Have you ever taken a cab home from the bar with a load of people and they WEREN’T singing?)
-Fortum

PURCHASES THAT YOU’LL ALMOST ALWAYS REGRET:
➢ Extended Warranties: These things are a case of you betting the store that the product will fail. (If the store lost money on these things, they wouldn’t offer them…!)
➢ Expensive camping equipment: Unless you are a hard-core camper, the nuclear-fueled campstove and dedicated s’more roasting kit are a waste. Go small, go cheap….you’re probably only using this stuff once per year. (Plus, have you ever been sober enough when you’re camping to feel uncomfortable anyway?)
➢ Home printer: Do you really need to print that much at home anymore? Even legal documents can be signed electronically. If you NEED to print anything, take it to the FEDEX office store or to Staples. (Or email it to yourself at work. Heh-heh…)
➢ Home exercise equipment: You THINK you’ll use it, but then you don’t. And it takes up a ton of room. (Are you suggesting that I haven’t been faithfully using my Thighmaster?)
➢ One-use kitchen gadgets: Juicer, breadmaker, food dehydrator, Kitchen-aid Mixer…who has a countertop big enough for all these things? (Darn infomercials!)
➢ Pools and Hot tubs: For many, there is only a short window of time each the year when they are able to use these things. Plus they take a lot of time and expense to care for, clean and heat. (And that’s why it is something that you shouldn’t get, but your friends SHOULD!)
➢ Pricey engagement rings, Extravagant weddings: Everyone is entitled to their opinion on this, but you might wish you had that money back for something else later. (Especially since I just used the plural form of those words: ringS….weddingS….)
➢ A boat: You might find that after you have one, you have trouble keeping your personal finances afloat. (The two best days in your life are the day you buy a boat and the day you sell it!)
