BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ William Shatner says he would reprise his role as Captain James T. Kirk in Quentin Tarantino’s possible “Star Trek” movie if he was asked. Shatner played Kirk in the original Star Trek TV series from 1966 to 1969, and returned to voice the character in the short-lived “Star Trek: The Animated Series” two years later, as well as in multiple Star Trek movies. However at age 88, he did acknowledge that his ailing health may affect what he would be able to do in the movie, saying: “I’d like to do it. Whether I’d be up for it, I don’t know.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Katy Perry — A trial has ruled that her 2013 hit ‘Dark Horse’ copied the 2009 Christian rap song ‘Joyful Noise’ by Flame. ‘Dark Horse’ spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts and earned Perry a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The case now moves to the penalty phase to determine how much Perry and her fellow defendants owe.
• The Chainsmokers — have announced their “WORLD WAR JOY” North American headline arena tour for fall. The 41-city tour will kick off September 25 in Cincinnati, OH and make stops in major cities across the U.S. and Canada before wrapping in Vancouver, BC on December 6. 5 Seconds of Summer, who are featured on The Chainsmokers’ latest single ‘Who Do You Love’, will be joining all dates.
• Lil Nas X – His ‘Old Town Road’ featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, has officially made chart history, marking its 17th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. That tops Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s ‘Despacito’ featuring Justin Bieber, and ‘One Sweet Day’ by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, which each lasted at the top of the chart for 16 weeks.
• Amy Winehouse — Her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil has reportedly filed a $1.6 million claim for a stake her fortune. When they divorced in 2009, Winehouse gave him a $653 pay-off. Winehouse did not have a will when she died in 2011, and her $4.7 million estate went to her parents.
• Green Day — frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tried to explain the success of their 1994 breakthrough album “Dookie” in a new video. Quote: “I would say it was the ‘Dookie sound’ that would be in the verses, but then when we wanted more power, we turned it up…You can really hear it in a song like ‘She’…It was just trying to go from loud to louder.”
• Rolling Stones – Fresh evidence has come to light over the alleged murder of former guitarist Brian Jones, who died in 1969 after being found in his swimming pool. Now, Jones’ manager says he was “out of his mind” on hash cakes on the night of his death, and that Jones’ death was covered up because of mistakes by local police. Tom Keylock makes the claim in a previously-unseen interview which will be shown in a new Netflix documentary about the conspiracy theories surrounding Jones’ death.
• Journey — are still a few months away from beginning their next Las Vegas residency, but they’re already extending it. Four nights have been added to their stay at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace for the last week of December, including a special Dec. 31 date.
• Kelsea Ballerini – has announced that her third studio album is complete. A title or release date has yet to be announced, but she hopes to have it out by the end of the year. She just celebrated her fifth No. 1 hit with her latest single, ‘Miss Me More’.
• Keith Urban – His daughters with Nicole Kidman are following their Mom into acting. 11-year-old Sunday and 8-year-old Faith are set to star in “Angry Birds 2”. They will be joined by “Wonder Woman” Gal Gadot’s daughter Alma Varsano and Viola Davis’ daughter Genesis Tennon.

HAPPY HOUR – LITERALLY:
They say that you have to take the good news with the bad, and that’s exactly what we have on the “news about wine” front. High doses of resveratrol, a compound commonly found in red wines, proved effective in eliminating signs of depression and anxiety in mice, according to a new study published in the medical journal Neuropharmacology. The bad news? For the same treatment to be effective on a 197-pound man, he would have to drink about 445 five-ounce glasses of red wine. Nonetheless, the lead study author says that some day “Resveratrol may be an effective alternative to drugs for treating patients suffering from depression and anxiety disorders.”
(Did they give the mice anything for their tiny splitting headaches?)
(445 glasses of wine? Who do they think I am? My mother at a wedding?)
(Well, we all have our own Rieslings to drink…)

FACIAL STATISTICIAN:
How often do you wash your face? A new study has found that the majority of us are either washing their faces incorrectly, or not at all. The poll of 2,000 Americans found that the biggest “skin sin” that people copped to was not washing their face at night, which is important for removing dirt and excess oil which has accumulated throughout the day. Other findings from the study:
• 52% have used bar soap and 44% have used hand soap on their face, not realizing the effects these products can have on their skin.
• 26% didn’t realize they should be washing their face every night.
• 41% have washed their face with hot water instead of lukewarm water.
• 39% have skipped washing their face after a workout, leaving sweat and oil to seep into skin.
• 38% have shaved without shaving cream.
• 47% fall asleep with their makeup on, 11% do so often.
The survey was conducted for CeraVe for National Cleanse Your Skin Week.
(Who just happen to have a number of products that would really help you with your skin care routine.)
(If I’m supposed to wash my face at night, I’d better do it at 7:00, just before I sit on the couch!)
(I used to do a cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating treatment every night, but all the other guys in the barracks laughed at me…)

LIES THAT YOU WERE TOLD AS A KID THAT YOU PROBABLY STILL BELIEVE:
☞ Gum will stay in your stomach for 7 years:  Because of its low nutritional components, it does take longer than other food to digest, but gum will be out of your body in seven days at most. (Good thing. I ate some seeds and I don’t want my gum to interfere with that watermelon I’m growing down there!)
☞ You can’t swim for an hour after eating:  The story went that the body sent blood to the stomach (and away from your limbs) while it digested food, so your limbs would grow tired more quickly. A Mayo Clinic study confirmed that there is absolutely no scientific basis for this theory. (But it did give your parents an excuse to make you help with the dishes before heading to the lake!)
☞ Watching TV too close to the screen will damage your eyes:  Watching TV from any distance doesn’t cause any permanent eye damage whatsoever. The blue light coming out of the screen could cause eye strain, a temporary condition, but the blue light is going to affect your eyes in the exact same amount regardless of where you sit. (And now they’re telling us that our handheld devices cause eye damage…hmmm…)
☞ Eating carrots will help your vision:  Only if you have a really, roundabout way of looking at things. Vitamin A does help your eyesight, and while carrots don’t have any Vitamin A in them, they do have beta-carotene, which the body does convert into Vitamin A. (Have you ever seen a rabbit with a Vitamin A deficiency?)
☞ Dogs only see in black and white:  Dogs are not quite capable of seeing the full-colour spectrum that humans can, but it isn’t just shades of gray for them. Dogs see the colors of the world in yellows, blues, and grays. So, you may be better off getting a bright yellow toy for your dog than the more common red and orange.
☞ Peeing on a jellyfish sting alleviates the pain:  This old wives’ tale is certainly effective in deterring people from coming too close to jellyfish. After all, no one wants to purposely pee on themselves—or worse, have a friend do it. But it doesn’t work. You should apply an acidic compound, such as vinegar, on the site of the sting, then use a flat object to scrape off the stinging cells. (Still, to whomever came up with the “pee” thing – Best. Practical. Joke. Ever.)
