Don’t You Just Love the Smell of BS in the Morning?
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Alex Trebek says he will stop his cancer treatment if the current round fails. The “Jeopardy” host, who turns 80 on Wednesday, said in an interview about his battle with pancreatic cancer: “My wife came to me and said, ‘How are you feeling?’ And I said, ‘I feel like I want to die’…There comes a time where you have to make a decision as to whether you want to continue with such a low quality of life.” On the positive side, Trebek said in a video that he is “doing well”, his treatment is “paying off” and his recent work recording new introductions to old episodes of Jeopardy has helped him regain his strength.

★ After losing his job as host of “Wild n’ Out” after making anti-Semitic comments, Nick Cannon has suffered another blow. On Friday, it was revealed that his highly-anticipated talk show, which was supposed to premiere this year, will not debut until 2021, with no actual airdate confirmation. The producer and distributor of the nationally syndicated talk show issued a statement saying that they condemn anti-Semitism, racism and hate speech.”

★ The Brentwood, Los Angeles house that doubled as the home for “The Golden Girls” has been put on the market for the first time. Before producers recreated a replica of the property at Hollywood Studios, it served as the exterior of the home where the characters, played by Betty White, Rue McClanahan, Bea Arthur, and Estelle Getty, lived. The house was built in 1955, and had never been sold until now, following the recent deaths of the original owners. List price? Just under US$3 million.

★ It takes a hero to recognize one. Robert Downey Jr. reached out to fan Bridger Walker via Instagram on Friday, becoming the latest Avenger to salute the young boy, who suffered serious injuries protecting his sister from a dog attack earlier this month. He joins “Captain America” Chris Evans, “Spider-man” Tom Holland, and Anne Hathaway in comforting the boy and praising his heroism. In their video chat, Downey called Walker a “rock star” and told the young hero to call him on his next birthday, because he has “something special” for him. His aunt posted about the boy and his recovery, leading to the celebrity outpouring.

• One Direction — This Thursday, on the 10th anniversary of their formation, they’ll launch the special “10 Years of One Direction” website. It will include an archive of music videos, artwork, TV performances, rare behind-the-scenes content, and a timeline charting the history of the group.
• Justin Bieber — has been granted a motion submitted by his lawyers to subpoena Twitter for more information about the identities of the women accusing him of sexual assault. His lawyers say that the accusations are “factually impossible, and disproven…” and could be by the same person.
• Billy Joel – has gone viral with a video showing him playing a piano he spotted while riding his motorcycle through Long Island. Bystanders couldn’t help but crack wise, with one quoting the lyrics to ‘Piano Man’: “Would definitely put bread in his jar and say ‘Man what are you doin’ here?’” LINK: https://youtu.be/S7gR5sVm_ZY
• Ozzy Osbourne – is already working on a new album. He released “Ordinary Man” in February and his wife Sharon says he’s working on a follow up and he is ”getting stronger every day”, despite his health issues.
• Grateful Dead — Nike has unveiled a line of Grateful Dead-inspired shoes. The “Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead” will retail for $110 a pair. The design was inspired by the band’s famous dancing bears, and include faux fur, an image of the bear on the tongue and a small zipper pouch on the inner tongue – perfect for stashing.
• Luke Combs – has become the first artist to have their first two studio albums spend 25 weeks or more at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. He earned the honor thanks to the success of his debut album “This One’s For You”, and his sophomore album “What You See Is What You Get”.
• Dierks Bentley — Like a lot of us, he is using his unexpected free time these days to do something he usually doesn’t have time to do – like work on his mullet. He posted a photo of himself and another well-follicled man posed aboard mountain bikes with the caption: “Little ride with my #flobro @scottbenge today.”
SHRINKAGE:
People who are paid to know these kinds of things are predicting that Earth’s population will begin to shrink within 50 years. A team of researchers from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and the University of Washington estimate that by the 2060s, there will be about 2 billion more people on Earth, but a few decades later, numbers will drop and 40 countries including Japan and Italy will lose as much as half their population. Their results suggest that Earth’s population of 7.8 billion today will rise until around 2064, where it will level off at 9.7 billion, then shrink, bringing us back to 8.8 billion by the century’s end. The researchers say that there will also be major changes to the global age structure during that time, resulting in dramatic reductions in working-age populations in many countries, and people over 80 years of age outnumbering under-fives. That highlights the “huge challenges” that a shrinking workforce will pose to economic growth and the burden that an aging population will pose to health and social support mechanisms.

TRUE COLORS:
American and French researchers say they have come up with special filters in “EnChroma” glasses which help colorblindness sufferers better see colors even after they’ve removed them. EnChroma glasses are currently available to assist those who cannot properly distinguish colors, but these are the first that have an effect after the glasses are removed. Special filters in the glasses work by increasing the separation between color channels, helping those with red-green colorblindness see pigments more vibrantly, clearly and distinctly. In a study by the UC Davis Health Eye Center and Inserm, it was found that “extended usage of these glasses boosts chromatic response in red-green colorblind participants”, and the improvements “persisted when tested without the filters, demonstrating an adaptive visual response.” One colorblind study participant was quoted as saying: “I had no idea how colorful the world is.” Colorblindness affects 13 million people in the US and 350 million worldwide.

WHAT YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR SAYS ABOUT YOU:
…according to a survey of 2,000 Americans by OnePoll (Yesterday was National Ice Cream Day)…
➢ Strawberry: You tend to enjoy doing laundry, watching sci-fi movies and listening to jazz music. And you’ll find love at age 24. (I’d fall in love with ANYONE who likes doing laundry!)
➢ Vanilla: You’re most likely to choose “dare” in a game of Truth or Dare, yet you’re introverted. You prefer washing dishes over doing laundry, tend to be a night owl, and choose dogs over cats. (This is good, because if you liked chocolate ice cream, you couldn’t share it with your dog!) And you’ll find love at age 25.
➢ Chocolate: You’re extroverted, enjoy romantic comedies, and love pop music. You also tend to have more variety in your interests. You’ll find love at age 26.
(And if you don’t like ice cream? That says that we can’t be friends!)

DID YOU KNOW?
On Friday, in a unique socially-distanced outdoor ceremony at Windsor Castle, Queen Elizabeth II knighted 100-year-old WWII veteran, Captain Sir Thomas Moore, who became a hero of the pandemic era for raising millions for healthcare workers. Moore, or “Captain Tom,” as he has become known, was knighted for raising about £33million ($40 million US) for the National Health Service by walking sponsored laps with his walker in his Bedfordshire backyard, with his WWII service medals pinned to his breast pocket.
