Bully For You!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Justin Bieber has bizarrely challenged Tom Cruise to a fight. Much to the confusion of his 106 million followers on Twitter, Bieber wrote: “I wanna challenge Tom Cruise to fight in the octagon. Tom if you don’t take this fight your (sic) scared and you will never live it down.” Many pointed out that if Bieber’s tweet was a publicity stunt, it failed. One person tweeted: “The best part about this is that Tom Cruise is the one trending…not @justinbieber . That’s gotta sting….”

★ Kevin Hart is working on a “Scrooged” remake. According to reports, Hart will be producing the movie, and possibly starring in it. No official casting announcements have been made. The original “Scrooged” movie in 1988 starred Bill Murray and was directed by Richard Donner as a modern-day retelling of the Charles Dickens novel “A Christmas Carol”.

★ Academy Award-winning actress Olivia Colman has been honored by Queen Elizabeth II – the monarch she is about to play on the Netflix royal family TV drama “The Crown.” Colman was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, or CBE, in the annual Queen’s Birthday Honors list. Colman won a best-actress Oscar this year for playing 18th-century monarch Queen Anne in “The Favorite.” She plays Elizabeth in the upcoming third season of “The Crown,” which is currently in production.

★ The clues of an upcoming new season of “Sister Wives” are getting a little more obvious. The Brown family has been dropping hints on social media lately about whether or not they will return to reality television, and while the last season ended on the big cliffhanger of whether the family would build a big house or a collection of homes on their land, it seems the storyline will be shifting to Chicago. The Browns were spotted in the windy city alongside a film crew, making everyone believe they might be taping a new season.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Bieber – gave his fans a glimmer of hope when he tweeted “More music coming. Happy Sunday.” Although he didn’t give up any more info, it did set off a wave of emotions from fans, whose comments ranged from “the prince of pop is coming” to “sir u can’t just say that and leave” to “please drop a snippet.”
• Ariana Grande — told fans on Twitter Saturday that she will be announcing some more dates for the U.S. leg of her “Sweetener” tour. She wrote that she is “truly excited and exceedingly grateful” and that there will be “more info soon.”
• Celine Dion — took the stage one last time at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday, marking the end of her 16-year Las Vegas residency. Shortly beforehand, she posted: “You’ve been with us throughout this incredible journey and I can’t thank you enough. One more night in Vegas… let’s go for it!” Saturday’s performance was her 1,144th “Céline” show since her second residency started in 2011.
• Trent Reznor — is suing his landlords, alleging the five-bedroom home he rented for his family is uninhabitable. He claims an electrical fire caused by the mold growing inside the walls forced him to move his wife and four kids to a hotel in January. He’s demanding the return of his security deposit, his hotel expenses and rent.
• Phil Collins – was joined on stage in Germany on Friday by his former Genesis bandmate Mike Rutherford for a rendition of ‘Follow You, Follow Me’. It was their first time on stage together since 2007. Rutherford’s band Mike + the Mechanics are opening for Collins on his current tour.
• Bruce Springsteen – His longtime saxophonist, the late Clarence Clemons will be the subject of a documentary feature that will arrive this summer. Directed by friend and filmmaker Nick Mead, “Clarence Clemons: Who Do I Think I Am?” will not only chronicle his career with Springsteen’s E Street Band, but the “transcendent awakening” he experienced before his death.
• Keith Urban – While there is no new album release in his immediate future, he says that doesn’t mean he’ll hold back on dropping new songs when he feels they’re ready. Quote: “(I’m) definitely working on new material all the time. Writing, recording…hopefully, I’ll be able to keep putting new music out. Doesn’t have to be a whole record, just new music, steady.”
• Miranda Lambert – debuted the new song ‘Locomotive’ at Nashville’s CMA Fest Saturday night. She introduced it as something that hopefully would make her audience “groove a little.”
• Ryman Auditorium – Since its inception in 1892, the legendary Nashville venue has hosted country music concerts, church revivals and even boxing matches, but never a headlining hip-hop show. That all changed with Wu-Tang Clan’s sold-out show on Sunday.
• Patsy Cline – She and Loretta Lynn will be the subjects of a fictionalized Lifetime movie, set to air this fall. “Patsy and Lorette” will cover the two stars’ close friendship and interweaving careers. Both singers’ daughters serve as co-producers of the film.

CRY BABY:
Many mothers say that they can tell what is bothering their baby by its cry. Now, a team of scientists say they have created technology that can read baby cries and decipher — to an extent – the meaning behind them. The researchers from Northern Illinois University designed an artificial intelligence algorithm which can listen to cries and determine whether they are normal or abnormal—which could potentially indicate a severe or chronic illness. The technique looks at hidden patterns in infant cries—focusing on features such as time and frequency in order to classify them in different ways. The new technology has the potential to enable inexperienced parents or health care providers to better understand the intent of cries, which could help with the diagnosis and treatment of several medical problems.
(In testing, the answer was “poopy diaper” 98% of the time…)
(Does it work on apoplectic teenagers too?)

NOT MY DEPARTMENT:
A prominent financial expert says that the end could be near for the traditional department store. Eric Matusiak of BDO says the changes that have hit the retail industry over the last several years have left department stores “in need of a massive reinvention or, more likely, an extinction.” He says after about 150 years in the market, the department store is a “dying beast” which could be gone in 10 years. While he sees the possibility of some kinds of large retail spaces continuing to exist, right now, department stores are “really struggling with how to remain relevant.” The one bright spot when it comes to the department store segment appears to be the high-end, luxury retailers, such as Nieman Marcus, Nordstrom and HBC’s Saks Fifth Avenue. Why? Because they tend to carry “the one thing” that discounters don’t have, or the thing that you’d never think to search for on Amazon. And they have the thing that big box stores often lack: extremely high-end customer service.
(Yeah, Sears never had that!)
(And unlike Amazon, they also have fitting rooms!)

THINGS TO DO WITH DAD ON FATHER’S DAY:
Stuck on what to buy for dear old Dad? Instead of spending money on another BBQ apron or a bad cologne, why not spend the day with hum…
➠ Tour a brewery: Join him for an afternoon of sampling different craft beers. He might just find a new favorite and you’ll be the one to thank. (Drinking all afternoon? Why should Father’s Day be different from any other Sunday for my dad?)
➠ Go golfing: It didn’t take a genius to think of this one. But seriously, what would dad rather be doing? (Other than that “touring a brewery” thing…)
➠ Fire up the grill: You could let dad rest while you show him all he has taught you over the years…or you could let him do what he does best, and serve up plate after plate of grilled goodness. (And he can wear the apron that you got for him LAST Father’s Day!)
➠ Go to a historical site: It might sound boring to you, but if dad is a history buff, this could be the kind of thing that he has always wanted to do, and never got around to it.
➠ Find a car show: There isn’t a dad alive that can’t lose himself for a day at one of these.
➠ Go to the race track: And by race track, I mean the go-cart track. Challenge pops to a race, if you dare. (But remember: After he sees the way you drive one of those things, he may never lend you the car again…)
➠ Rock out: Take dad to a “dad-rock” concert and let him party like it’s 1999. (But be warned if you’ve never seen Dad flash the “Devil’s horns”!)

DID YOU KNOW?
According to a study by Harvard’s School of Health, the number of pushups you can do might be a better way to evaluate your risk of heart attack or stroke than an assessment of your aerobic fitness. They determined that those who can do 40 or more pushups in a row are 96 per cent less likely to have a cardiovascular event that those who can do only 10 or fewer.
(I have a cardiovascular event just THINKING about doing 40 pushups!)
