The BS Press!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. A spokeswoman for the 60 year-old star of movies like ‘Lincoln’ and ‘There Will be Blood’ said in a statement: “He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.” Day-Lewis is the only performer to ever win three best actor Oscars. (His movie fee just went up…WAY up!)
-Hollywood Reporter
★ Wonder Woman is expected to surpass $600 million globally this week. But star Gal Gadot is said to have made just $300,000 for the film. Fans took to Twitter to point out the huge gender pay gap considering Henry Cavill made $14m for his role in the 2013 movie Man of Steel, which didn’t perform as well in the box office. But Gadot could be in line for a huge bonus due to the success of her stand alone film, which may equal her base pay many times over.
(Fun Fact: Gadot pronounces her surname ‘guh-DOTE’)
-DailyMail
★ Nathan Fillion is ready to bring Wonder Man to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. All they have to do is call. The ‘Cars 3′ star, who is pals with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director James Gunn, set the Internet ablaze when he Instagrammed a pic of himself in character in a cut scene from the recent ‘Guardians’ sequel. (Wonder Man? Because we are all wondering who that is?)

★ ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ is set to resume after no evidence of misconduct was found. Despite the finding, Producer Warner Bros. said it plans to implement changes to the show’s policies and procedures “to enhance and further ensure the safety and security” of all participants.

★ ‘Will & Grace’ makes its long-awaited return to TV September 28th. After an 11-year hiatus, the comedy will return to its Thursday night slot, now falling between the second seasons of ‘The Good Place’ and ‘Great News.’
-CTV
★ The secret to J.Lo and A-Rod’s relationship? Their age. Rodriguez recently told a reporter that “If you want to be together, you are together.” He went on to say, “Our kids get along really well, we’re both from New York, we’re both Latin, we’re both in our 40s, we’re really enjoying life, but she really is one of the most impressive and smartest human beings I have ever met.”
(She’ll keep him, too, if he keeps talking like that!)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – visited some of the firefighters who tackled the Grenfell Tower fire. After paying a low-key visit to the site of the blaze in West London, singer Adele then met up with firefighters for what she called a “cup of tea and a cuddle”.
• KISS – Original drummer Peter Criss performed his ‘last U.S. concert’ at The Cutting Room in New York City Saturday night. The 71-year-old said that he wanted to say goodbye on his own terms. Nothing has been scheduled yet, but Criss might offer similar farewell concerts in other countries. (If he were forced to cancel a show, would he do a ‘make-up’ date?)
• Metallica – guitarist Kirk Hammett says that he is open to the idea of the band recording another “Garage” style covers album or even another performance with a symphony orchestra.
• Guns N’ Roses – Marvel have announced that they will release five Marvel Rock variant covers this September to celebrate the connection between music fans and comic book readers. The covers will each pay tribute to a classic rock album that defined and expanded the musical genre, including G N’R’s ‘Appetite for Destruction,’ Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind,’ and The Clash’s ‘London Calling’.
• Foo Fighters – Dave Grohl says their new album ‘Concrete and Gold’ is ‘Motorhead’s version of ‘Sgt. Pepper’…or something like that.”
• Barry Gibb – says that seeing a newspaper photograph of his younger brother Robin Gibb alerted him to the painful discovery his sibling had cancer. He took the photo to his doctor and the doctor told him that he ‘saw cancer’ and Gibb had better visit his brother. The two Gibbs had a famously difficult relationship.
• Miley Cyrus – Dolce & Gabbana don’t care what Miley Cyrus thinks of them, and they’re not afraid to say it. After praising her brother Braison on Instagram for his runway debut, Cyrus wrote: “PS D&G, I STRONGLY disagree with your politics…. but I do support your company’s effort to celebrate young artists & give them the platform to shine their light for all to see!” Dolce and Gabbana have come under fire recently for working with Melania Trump. Gabbana commented: “We don’t need your posts or comments so next time please ignore us!” (Yes, he did comment on Miley’s post, asking her not to comment about him!)
• Prodigy – one half of Mobb Deep, has died. He was hospitalized in Las Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. He was 42.
• DJ Khaled – says they didn’t want him to succeed at the EDC Festival in Las Vegas, but EDC organizers say it was equipment problems that messed up his set. Khaled was booed off the stage on Sunday night after repeated sound issues and tons of stalling.
• The truth behind Tupac Shakur’s 1996 murder: ‘it was simple retaliation,’ says an LAPD source. According to the source, Suge Knight had Tupac killed because he was trying to leave Death Row and start his own label.
• Lynyrd Skynyrd – have filed a lawsuit against their former drummer Artimus Pyle in relation to his upcoming biopic, ‘Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash’. The band says that Pyle’s film may violate a consent order and be inaccurate.
• Florida Georgia Line – There’s another cross-genre collaboration coming: the duo will team up with pop artist Bebe Rexha for “Meant to Be,” a song on her upcoming All Your Fault: Part 2 EP
GETTIN’ INK (OVER)DONE:
We came across the story earlier in the week that said 2% of people never have body odour. We’re willing to bet that an even smaller percentage of people have THIS armpit-related distinction: The armpit tattoo. Yup. Apparently having permanent artwork done on one of the most sensitive parts of the body is quickly becoming the hot new ink trend. “But does it hurt?” says everyone who hears about this. And the answer? Yes. In fact, according to those who know from experience, getting an armpit tattoo hurts a lot because of the thin skin in the area and the fact that there are lymph nodes just under the surface. In fact, having ink done on (in?) The armpit is considered the THIRD most painful place to receive a tattoo. One is the eyelid. The other I’ll let you guess. There are over 7,100 photos on Instagram with the hashtag #ArmpitTattoo. The tattoos range from flowers to dogs to spider webs to monsters to skulls to elaborate designs. They are usually part of a larger montage or image which extends to the arm, chest, back or shoulder. This is what happens when you run out of real estate after getting a sleeve.
(And of course then you want to walk around showing everyone your armpits!)
(Does the tattoo artist get paid extra for this?)

JEANS: NOT NAMED AFTER SOME DUDE NAMED ‘GENE’:
Denim one of the most popular materials in our wardrobes today. And for the past over 100 years. Here are some things you DIDN’T know:
• The word ‘jeans’ comes from the word ‘Genes’, which is the French word for the city of Genoa, Italy. (So all my awesome puns about ‘it’s in the genes’ aren’t as clever as I thought?)
• Denim was invented as far back as the 1500s. It was made for the Italian navy to wear while on duty. (So….NOT Levi Strauss?)
• Levi Strauss was the man who popularized the material in the 1870s. He made clothes for miners and other working class people since the material was inexpensive.
• 225 pairs of jeans can be made from just one bale of cotton.
• We’re used to seeing blue jeans, but that color is actually created using indigo dye. This was the best color to hide dirt.
• In 1936, a label was sewn onto an item of clothing for the first time. It was a red flag sewed next to the back pocket of a pair of Levi’s. (and ‘brand-name’ was born!)
• The small pocket in the larger pocket of your jeans was originally designed for a pocket watch. (Either watches were smaller then, or my jeans shrunk!)
• ‘Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha’ (good luck with that!) is the company which makes 90% of the world’s zippers for jeans. The initials YKK can often be found on the zippers. (Check yours. If YKK isn’t there, it means you have a cheap zipper, and you’ll be checking it all day!)

MORE KENS:
Mattel has announced 15 new Ken dolls in an attempt to reflect what a Ken doll means to this generation. The new dolls, featuring seven skin tones, nine hairstyles and three body styles, including a more muscular “broad” physique. This comes after last year’s introduction of three new Barbie bodies – petite, tall and curvy, which the toy maker said reflected a changing world.
Ken, introduced in 1961 as Barbie’s buff and blue-eyed boyfriend, has shown hints of diversity before, including with the introduction of African American Ken in 1981 and Earring Magic Ken in 1993, which became a big seller among gay men. Now, different Kens will sport man buns, cornrows and bleached blond hair. There are new hair styles, a range of body types, a hip wardrobe and skin tones for every ethnicity.
(Great. Now my daughter will want all 15 of them. They know what they’re doing!)
(Is there a G.I. Ken? Because there was nothing worse as a kid than asking for a G.I. Joe and ending up with a Ken doll so you could ‘play nice’ with your sister and her Barbies!)
