Deja Moo!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Roseanne Barr made a tearful appearance on a podcast hosted by a rabbi friend, and used the occasion to cry about her show being cancelled by ABC. Barr reached out to New Jersey-based Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, who is a longtime spiritual advisor to the Jewish actress. Rabbi Shmuley used to advise Michael Jackson and is a supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump. A source says “She was sobbing and very apologetic about the whole thing.”

★ Heidi Klum says she and Mel B have ”dance parties” backstage on ‘America’s Got Talent’. The two have become great friends as a result of sitting on the judging panel of the NBC talent show together, and to pass the time off set they like to try and out-dance each other in their dressing rooms. Klum says that “Howie (Mandel) never comes because he can’t dance to the beat.” One of her favorite tracks to get down to is Silento’s 2015 hit ‘Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)’

★ Simon Cowell says that giving up his mobile phone for 10 months has improved his mental health. Despite it being a “strange experience”, Cowell says giving up his phone “absolutely” made him happier. Cowell reports that he is still not using a cell phone and at this point, the thing that irritates him most is “When you have a meeting, everyone’s on their phone – and I was probably in that place too. You can’t concentrate.” Elton John and Sarah Jessica Parker are among other celebrities said to have ditched their mobiles.

★ Cate Blanchett says she has a nasty habit of accidentally picking up accents wherever she goes. According to her, it is a “terrible thing that I do. When I’m around Americans I take on an American lilt and when I’m in China, I can’t help it and I start to pick up a (slight accent).” She says doing so is politically incorrect and it embarrasses her kids.
-MSN
★ Laura Prepon of “Orange Is The New Black” and Ben Foster have tied the knot! Prepon announced the exciting news on Instagram, posting a wedding photo of the new husband and wife smiling and embracing. They welcomed their first child, daughter Ella, in August.
(Just out of curiosity, how did people announce things like this BEFORE social media? I forget!)

★ Janet Jackson called police on Saturday night over concern for her 1-year-old child. Malibu County Sheriff’s Office were called to check on the welfare of Jackson’s son, who was with his father, Jackson’s estranged husband, Wissam Al Mana. Jackson was not on the scene at the time. Randy Jackson says that his sister called 911 after being contacted by a nanny who was helping Al Mana care for the child at the time. According to Randy, the nanny became frightened by Al Mana’s behavior which she believed was aggressive and locked herself in a bathroom, so she could contact Janet.

ONE THEORY DOWN THE DRAIN:
Finally! A bit of science that comes out on my side! It’s the answer to the age-old argument (and by “age-old”, I mean since dishwashers were invented) about whether or not to rinse the dishes before you put them into the dishwasher. And the answer is: NO! If you’ve ever pulled a bowl out of the freshly run dishwasher only to see it’s still covered in caked-on oatmeal, you can place the blame squarely NOT on the person who didn’t rinse the bowl, but whoever rinsed the other dishes. That’s because modern dishwashers have a sensor that measures the amount of food debris floating around at the start of the cycle and adjusts as necessary. If most of the plates and spoons in the cycle have been rinsed, the crud caked to that one bowl you couldn’t be bothered to rinse won’t trigger the sensor, and it’ll result in a shorter, lighter wash cycle, regardless of which setting you choose. Most dishwashers purchased in the last five years for $500 or more have this ability. One caveat: small food particles are good, but big food particles are not. Give your plates a scrape into the trash before you put them in the dishwasher.
(Or just let the dog handle the pre-wash…)
(I always thought that ‘washing the dishes’ before washing the dishes kind of defeated the purpose of a dishwasher…)

BOXING BARE:
The first legal bare-knuckle boxing matches in the U.S. since 1889 took place on the weekend in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Arnold Adams, a 32-year-old MMA heavyweight, pounded ex-UFC fighter D.J. Linderman’s face “into a bloody mess” in front of 2,000 rowdy fans at a hockey rink on Saturday night, in the headline event of a group of 10 bouts, including one featuring women. Tens of thousands more tuned in for the pay-per-view event. While bare knuckle boxing — essentially boxing without gloves — has been thriving in the United Kingdom for years, no state would sanction and regulate the activity until lawmakers in Wyoming reviewed research that indicated bare-knuckle boxing would be safer than other combat sports, especially when it comes to concussions. The last significant bare-knuckle bout in the U.S. was July 8, 1889, when John L. Sullivan went 75 rounds to beat Jake Kilrain.
(75 rounds? I can’t even stand up for that long!)
(Bare knuckle boxing was illegal? Have these guys never seen a hockey game?)

FIVE THINGS THAT SCIENTISTS STILL CAN’T AGREE ON:
➠ Is Pluto a Planet? An editorial by two astronomers in the Washington Post argues that the 2005 redefinition of the word “planet” that left Pluto in the dust should be reconsidered. Under the current planet definition, even Earth was not one for the for the first 500 million years of its existence.
➠ What is death? There are a lot of different ways to define death, and they don’t always line up with each other. You can be brain-dead, but with working organs. Or your heart could stop, but the brain works for a while. The traditional definition of death requires all three elements: circulatory failure, respiratory failure, and not being on life support. (With attending a child’s piano recital a close fourth!)
➠ Are Viruses Alive? They’ve been considered many things in the 100+ years since their first discovery — poisons, life forms, biological chemicals, and life forms again. Scientists can’t quite decide if they’re alive or not. (But we do refer to ‘killing’ the virus…)
➠ Is It Brontosaurus or Apatosaurus? A paleontologist dug up a set of bones in 1877 and called the animal “Apatosaurus,” then dug up another set two years later and named that animal “Brontosaurus.” In 1903, another paleontologist convinced the dinosaur community that these were, in fact, two versions of the same animal, and thus the older name won out. (Which is too bad, since “Brontosaurus” rolls off the tongue so much better. (I know. Sometimes I lose sleep about this one too.)
➠What Happened Before the Big Bang? Perhaps our universe sprung out of another, older one. Perhaps our Big Bang was just one of several similar spatial expansions, each one exploding into its own universe-in-a-bubble. Or maybe we’re all living on a giant space turtle. It’s unlikely we’ll ever know. (Especially with Hawking gone…)
(Plus there’s that whole ‘to-may-to, to-mah-to’ thing…)
