BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Channing Tatum has vowed to lead a ‘Magic Mike Live’ show once he gets in top shape again. Tatum played title character Mike Lane in the 2012 movie, which follows the life of a male stripper, and reprised the role for the 2015 sequel ‘Magic Mike XXL’. He created and co-directed ‘Magic Mike Live’, which has been huge since opening at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas in 2017. ‘Magic Mike London’ opens in London, in November, and while launching the stage spectacular in Piccadilly Circus on Monday, he promised he will strip again on stage as his alter ego once he has his abs back.

★ “The Walking Dead” fans have barely had enough time to recover from the announcement that Andrew Lincoln will be leaving the franchise, and now another major character will be departing as well. Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Rhee, is the latest cast member confirmed to leave the show. She will be “phased out” after six episodes of the upcoming 9th season. It is rumored that Cohan is parting ways with the franchise in order to take the lead role in the upcoming ABC drama “Whiskey Cavalier”, after renegotiation to stay on “TWD” went south.

★ Jimmy Fallon turned the 2018 Graduating Class of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School into his personal “Tonight Show” audience. He delivered a surprise commencement speech for the graduates months after the deadly Parkland high school shooting. Among his pearls of wisdom: “When you think of commencement speakers, you think of people who are inspirational, people who are eloquent, people who have changed the world. When you think of high school students, you think of people who are a little immature and slightly awkward and still learning to be an adult. Welcome to opposite day.” And “Today you’re graduating from high school. You should feel incredibly proud of yourselves. That doesn’t mean you should rest on your laurels — or your Yannys.”

★ “The Heathers” TV spin-off has been dropped by Paramount Network bosses, who feel the time is wrong to air the high school drama. Paramount is now shopping the project around, trying to find another home for the series, which was inspired by Winona Ryder’s cult 1988 film. “Heathers”, which featured scenes of high school torment and violence and a simulated school shooting. The show was delayed following the Parkland, Florida massacre in February, and again after the events in Santa Fe, Texas last month.

★ Get ready for some happy dreams because the sweet, soothing voice of Bob Ross can now read you a bedtime story. The popular sleep and meditation app ‘Calm’ has reworked three classic episodes of Ross’ PBS show, “The Joy of Painting,” and repurposed them “as calming bedtime stories for grown-ups.” Alex Tew, co-founder of Calm, says: “We’ve had so many Calm users asking us for a Sleep Story with Bob Ross. He was and still is a hero to the hard of sleeping.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ed Sheeran – is up for ‘Best Live Act’ in this year’s Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Cleff Awards. Other nominees include Harry Styles, Adele, Dua Lipa, Fall Out Boy and Stormzy.
• Cardi B – says her former manager took advantage of her lack of knowledge of the music business and ripped her off. Klenord “Shaft” Raphael sued Cardi for $10 million dollars, claiming she breached their contract by ditching him as her manager. She plans to counter-sue.
• Mariah Carey – Tickets have not been selling well for her new run of ‘The Butterfly Returns’ shows at The Colosseum inside Caesers Palace. Her new residency kicks off July 5. One source says that sales are so bad that “scalpers are freaking out”.
• Bruce Springsteen – is streaming video of a 2009 full album performance of “Darkness On The Edge Of Town”, to mark the 40th anniversary of the project’s release. The footage was filmed at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ without an audience, and can be viewed on YouTube.
• Daryl Hall – sours at the thought of joining the 2018 farewell tour bandwagon. Hall and Oates recently released their first new single in 15 years, ‘Philly Forget Me’ with special guests Train, with whom they are touring. Quote: “I’m sick of talking about people retiring — screw them!” (You could say that when it comes to talking about retirement, he “Can’t go for that [no can do]”)
• Styx – have recently added their hit ‘Mr. Roboto’ to their concert set list for the first time in about 35 years. The song caused friction within the band when it was released, and contributed to Tommy Shaw’s departure (he later returned). Styx is now playing it…as part of their encore.
• Maddie and Tae – Maddie Marlow is getting married. Her boyfriend of seven years, Jonah Font, proposed in late-May. The two have known each other since high school. No word on a wedding date.
• Florida Georgia Line – will play a Las Vegas residency in December. “Florida Georgia Line Live From Las Vegas”, will take place at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino’s Zappos Theater.
The five-show run will begin on Dec. 1, with additional shows on Dec. 5, 7, 8 and 11; Mason Ramsey will open.
• Dolly Parton – has signed a deal with Netflix, to bring some of her “favorite songs to life” in a series of eight episodes of a new anthology series.
THE WATER CLOSET:
If Miki Agrawal has her way, toilet paper will soon be a thing of the past…at least in people’s homes. Agrawal, is the founder of Tushy, a company whose mission is to bring the bidet — that mysterious toilet faucet of European origin, to the people of North America. Tushy’s main product right now is a $69 toilet-attachable bidet, which is available in pink, gray, white, or black. She says that using a bidet isn’t just a matter of personal cleanliness (although once you go bidet, you’ll stay with the spray), it’s also a matter of being environmentally responsible. She says that toilet paper is estimated to wipe out 27,000 trees a day. To help get the word out, Tushy has opened up a temporary retail outlet in lower Manhattan. A ‘poop-up’ shop, if you will.
(So THAT’s why some people have those fountains in their bathroom!)
(I’m sure these things do a wonderful job at what they’re designed to do. But how do you blow your nose when you’re out of Kleenex?)

REGRETS…I’VE HAD A FEW…TOO MANY TO MENTION:
Daniel Gilbert, the author of a new book called ‘Stumbling Into Happiness’ says that the things that people most often regret aren’t the things that they did (or did wrong). People tend to regret most the things they DIDN’T do. Sure, in the short term you might cringe at that joke that fell flat during your presentation, or the time you spilled your drink all over your fiance’s mother’s dress, but over time, the bigger regrets become the ones of omission. In a study of people in their 80s who were asked what they would like a do-over on, answers were most often things like: “I wish I’d gone to college”, “I wish I’d been more assertive”, or “I wish I’d traveled more.” And remember: If you don’t do stuff, you’ll still have regrets…so do stuff!
(No, actually my biggest regret is the thing I DID do. Accidentally walk into the women’s restroom!)

EVEREST: GET OVER IT:
We’ve always been told that Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. Well, yes and no…depending on how you measure it. It’s definitely tall: a little over 29,000 feet (or just under 9,000 meters). That’s 20 times as tall as the Empire State Building. But Everest rests (if you’ll pardon the pun) on a 16,500 foot plateau. If you measure Everest from the plateau to the summit, it’s no longer the tallest mountain in the world. It’s dwarfed by Alaskan mountain Denali (previously Mount McKinley), which is roughly 20,300 feet (6,200 meters). And because mountains are measured by height above sea level, it is worth mentioning that there are mountains partially submerged in the sea or ocean which are automatically disqualified when using conventional mountain-measuring methods. For instance: The Hawaiian volcano Mauna Kea…if you measure from its underwater base to its peak, it’s nearly 33,300 feet (10,150 meters) tall. That’s almost a mile taller than Everest! But take heart, optimistic Everest fans, Mt. Everest is still growing…at a rate of approximately 4 millimeters per year.
(So why have we always been told Everest is the highest? Because it’s there!)
(Still, it’s not exactly a molehill!)

THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT DO DURING A POWER OUTAGE:
➢ Light candles: Candles can tip over and can cause a fire. Get a good, bright lantern.
➢ Let your phone die: Save your phone until you need it. If the power goes out for a few days you might need it for emergency services. If you can’t resist, make sure you juice up a portable phone charger in case. (C’mon! I have to go on Facebook and complain that the power’s out…)
➢ Keep electronics plugged in: You should really unplug electronics before the storm hits, because a lightning surge and could damage your equipment. Unplugging can also offer protection against the electrical surge of the power coming back. (This also gives you something to try to do while stranded in the dark.)
➢ Open the fridge: Every time you do, you let cold air out. Resist opening it unless absolutely necessary. (That means I either have to lock the fridge, or lock up my teenagers…)
➢ Start a generator in your garage: Hopefully, you already know that your generator gives off toxic carbon monoxide, so you should keep it in open air away from the house.
➢ Forget to load up on water: Before a big storm, you probably make sure your pantry is stocked with nonperishable food, but don’t forget about bottled water. If the power outage messes with water systems and causes a boil-water alert, you’ll want to have safe drinking water on hand. (And ice-cubes…LOTS of ice-cubes!)
➢ Not know where the flashlight is: You need to have one in a place that you can find it. And it needs to have reasonably fresh batteries. LED flashlights are most efficient. (Because you need a flashlight…to help you find the lantern!)
(And the most important thing NOT to do during a power outage? Don’t not have a neighbor with an extra generator!)
