BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Haley Joel Osment must attend AA meetings for 6 months. In April, he was arrested on charges of alleged public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. The “Sixth Sense” actor was arraigned in court on Monday, and granted a one-year diversion by the judge. The Mono County district attorney reportedly objected to the diversion request due to Osment’s prior DUI conviction, as well as the actor using racial slurs against a police officer while being arrested, but was overruled.

BS MUSIC NOTES:

• Taylor Swift – has a friend in Carole King. Since announcing she has regained control of her masters, Swift has received support from friends, admirers and colleagues — from Travis Kelce and Selena Gomez to, of course, millions of excited Swifties. And King, one of her idols, posted a pic on IG of Swift raising her hands in celebration, and wrote: “You continue to inspire!”
• Eminem, Bad Bunny, and Post Malone — are some of the famous faces who appear in the newly-released trailer for “Happy Gilmore 2”. Bad Bunny makes his debut in the franchise as Gilmore’s rookie caddy. Eminem appears in a wig as a disgruntled golfer. We’re not sure about Postie’s character, but he rocks a huge cowboy hat and massive brown beard. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/78da8cye
• Alex Warren — In its 16th week on Billboard’s Hot 100 songs chart ‘Ordinary’ has finally hit #1. The romantic ballad rose from #4 to the top on the latest chart, with 21 million official streams and 44 million radio airplay impressions.
• Rick Astley – Over 30 years after its release, ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ has joined Spotify’s Billions Club. To celebrate, he posted: “Reaching one billion streams is something I never dreamed of and to everyone who’s ever listened, thank you.”
• Duran Duran – has teased that they are in studio with one of their most legendary collaborators. The group posted a pic on IG with the caption: “Working with our good friend Nile at Abbey Road Studios this weekend. Stay tuned…” Nile Rodgers, who produced some of the band’s biggest hits, also shared the moment. It’s the first time Rodgers and Duran Duran have worked together in nearly a decade. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4jnrffzu
• Blue Rodeo – has announced a coast-to-coast Canadian tour to mark its 40th anniversary. The legendary Toronto alt-country act has booked a 27-date run that kicks off with 2 shows in Calgary on Oct 1 and 2, and continues into early next year. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ssrh3n3b
• Jelly Roll – announced during his Nashville concert: “This will be my last Nashville show until 2027, y’all.” Why? He told the crowd he wants “to be the first act to play Nissan Stadium when it opens in the spring of 2027.” He asked fans to film his announcement, presumably in hopes his plea would go viral. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4spykdhs
• Cam – has released her first new music in 4 years, the single ‘Alchemy’, which she calls “a song about reflecting on what we’re made of, where we’re coming from and where we’re going.” Recently, she picked up a Grammy as one of the songwriters on Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” album. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3dxuz5cs
• Lainey Wilson – was asked in an interview how many pairs of her signature bell-bottoms she has in her closet. Her answer: “I have completely lost count, but I’ve worn a new pair on stage each time for the past 15 years…” When informed that if you add up all her concerts, plus press days and interviews, the total would be about 1,000 pairs, she responded, saying: “Yes, probably well over that.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

NAME SHAME:
Around the world, it’s becoming trendy to give children unusual, unique names. And in Japan, names like Nike, Pikachu and Pudding have grown in popularity as some parents look to stand out from tradition with unique and unusual choices — until now. Starting this week, new government rules are limiting how creatively names can be pronounced. The goal? To reduce confusion for schools, hospitals, and public services that struggle with names that sound nothing like they’re written. The new rules have sparked online debate, with some feeling that it’s government overreach. One person posted: “They’re not children of the nation—they’re children of their parents.” Others argue the names can lead to bullying or make things like banking and ID registration unnecessarily complicated.
(So… RIP baby Pikachu. We barely knewchu?)
(It would seem that unclear names have now been clearly banned…!)

ALOTTA LOTTO LUCK:
Some people are just lucky — and then there’s David Serkin. The Lethbridge AB man just scored his FOURTH lottery win, snagging a cool $1 million in the May 3 Lotto 6-49 Gold Ball draw. If you’re keeping track (and maybe shaking your fist a bit in envy…), that’s $2.5 million in less than 9 months. Let’s rewind:
• Last August, Serkin pocketed $500,000 on a Lotto Max ticket.
• Three months later? Another $1 million.
• And now? Yep. Another mil.
Oh — and he also won $250,000 back in 2012. Because, why not?
Serkin admitted that he knows “the odds are astronomical,” and while he doesn’t think he’ll ever win again, he still likes buying tickets. BTW, the odds of winning the Lotto Max jackpot are 1 in 33 million. So yeah, if you’re looking for a human good luck charm, David’s probably your guy. He’s been playing 6-49 since it launched in 1982. He’s a cancer survivor, retired, and said: “I’m just grateful for all of it.” With his last big win, Serkin took his wife to Hawaii. This time? They’re headed to Newfoundland.
(Wow. And I consider myself lucky when I don’t get stuck behind a school bus in the morning!)
(He’s besties with Lady Luck. I think she blocked my number…)

SWIPE ‘HEIGHT’ OR SWIPE LEFT:
Tinder is testing a “height filter” that lets users set minimum and maximum height preferences for matches—but only if you’re a Platinum subscriber. The new height option popped up on Reddit and other forums, and appears in the Discovery section of the app. While Tinder has always let users filter by age, orientation, and distance, this marks a new level of customization—for a price. The premium tier starts at $39.99/month and also includes perks like priority likes, an interest filter, and the ability to message before matching. Tinder says it’s all part of helping people “connect more intentionally,” and stresses that this height filter is just a test, not a permanent change. It is supposedly meant to give users more control, without fully blocking out potential matches. But the move has sparked debate about at what point “intentional” starts to become “superficial.”
(Wow. Imagine paying $40 a month just so you can be rejected faster!)
(Next up: swiping based on credit score and star sign alignment…)

(What sporting event would you add to this self-admittedly American-leaning list?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Air conditioners are making global warming worse, a new study has found. As the summertime mercury rises, thousands – or millions – will crank the air conditioning to full blast – and probably complain about global warming. But it turns out those A/Cs are part of the problem: Researchers from the University of Wisconsin say air conditioners further degrade air quality and generally compound the toll on human health created by air pollution. The study predicts that as many as 1000 additional deaths will occur every year in the Eastern US alone, due to the increased use of fossil fuels to cool steadily-warming buildings where people live and work. (Awkward!)

• “Cheese Day”, celebrated on the anniversary of the creation of Roquefort cheese, made from ewes’ milk and ripened in a cave near Roquefort, France in the year 1070. It’s the perfect excuse to indulge yourself with a slice of your favorite. (If I could just get this wrapper off…)
• “Hug Your Cat Day”, a day to realize that felines need affection, even though they sometimes act as though they don’t want it.

• “Shopping Cart Day”. The shopping cart was unveiled on this date in 1937 by Oklahoma’s Sylvian Goldman (the next day, 27 of them were found abandoned behind his apartment building).
• “International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression”, a UN observance established in 1982. There are approximately 122 million uprooted refugees around-the-world who have sought safety in another country. Around half of them are children.
