The Sheet Hits the Fans!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Sesame Street” is celebrating Pride Month by going where it’s never gone before. Last week, the iconic children’s show dropped a special episode called “Family Day,” introducing 2 gay dads, Frank and Dave, and their daughter, Mia. Alan Muraoka, who plays the owner of Hooper’s Store on the show, shared the news on Facebook, saying he was “honored and humbled” to have directed such a milestone episode. He wrote: “Love is love, and we are so happy to add this special family to our Sesame family. Happy Pride to all!!!!”

★ Mark Hamill celebrated his “Star Wars” co-star Carrie Fisher Friday night on Twitter for her posthumous induction into the 2022 class of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He wrote, “I congratulate and salute all 38 new #HollywoodWalkOfFame honorees-Welcome to the neighborhood! Much love and a very special 1-finger salute to the incomparable, hilarious & irreverent force of nature that was my ‘space sis’ Carrie Fisher. Her star will blaze from here to eternity.” He added in-costume pics from their Star Wars days and touchingly added a shot of them together, with Fisher ‘flipping the bird’.

★ Will Smith has revealed the title and cover of his upcoming autobiography “WILL”, which drops on Nov. 9. In a video posted to social media, Smith says: “It’s been a labor of love” that he has “been working on it for the past two years and it is finally ready.” In the book, he explores his personal trajectory, from his childhood in Philadelphia, to his iconic roles in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and an array of hit films.

★ After an HBO Max intern accidentally sent a bizarre test email to the streamer’s mailing list late Thursday night, Twitter users are sharing their own workplace mistakes — including infamous former intern Monica Lewinsky. She’s a pro at making viral tweets, and her contribution to the trending “Dear Intern” hashtag was no exception. Friday, she tweeted: “Dear intern, it gets better. p.s. don’t wear a beret for awhile, k?” That was a reference to her trademark style accessory around the time of the scandal involving her and Bill Clinton.

The new version will feature 30 songs, including a 10-minute tune that fans are speculating could be the nearly legendary extended version of ‘All Too Well’ that she has referenced in the past.
• Jessie J – has been struggling to sing as she continues to experience pain following her Meniere’s disease diagnosis that left her deaf and dizzy on Christmas Eve. On Friday, she shared video of herself quietly singing her new single ‘I Want Love’, as she fought back tears, saying it was filmed for her speech therapist in the midst of her dealing with the inner ear condition.
• Foo Fighters — will release a collection of Bee Gees covers for Record Store Day July 17. “Hail Satin” will contain the band’s versions of 5 Bee Gees tunes – ‘You Should Be Dancing’, ‘Night Fever’, ‘Tragedy’ ‘More Than a Woman’, plus Andy Gibb’s ‘Shadow Dancing’, and 5 Foo Fighters songs recorded live at the band’s 606 studio. The Foos say: “For optimal results, listen with exposed chest hair…”
• Led Zeppelin – have had a frog named after them. The newly-discovered species has been christened ‘Pristimantis ledzeppelin’, or in English: ‘Led Zeppelin’s Rain Frog. It was found in the “misty mountains” of the Ecuadorian Andes.
• Mötley Crüe — Nikki Sixx has announced the new memoir “The First 21: How I Became Nikki Sixx”, focusing on his journey from an “all-American kid” to his fledgling music career in Los Angeles. Quote: “These are my first 21, and it’s my hope that they thrill and inspire you to invest in your own, biggest dreams.” It will become available Oct. 21.
• Brandi Carlile — will host her third “Girls Just Wanna Weekend” in Riviera Maya, Mexico Feb. 1-5. The 2022 lineup hasn’t been announced, but the 2020 version included Carlile, Sheryl Crow, Lake Street Dive, Patty Griffin, Lucius, Wanda Sykes and more. (There was no event in 2021).
• Garth Brooks – is among the artists who will appear on “Duets”, an album of unreleased collaborations with Charlie Daniels, out July 16, one year after Daniels’ death. • Dolly Parton – She’s known for her love of wigs and says she’d love to bring out her own range of fake locks and other hair products. But first, she’s launching her debut fragrance “Scent From Above”. She chose to move into perfume because she says people are always keen to smell like her.
SHOOTING THE BULL
TECH TALK:
➢ Peloton users are being warned of a new potential problem: Hackers. Cybersecurity company McAfee claims to have discovered a vulnerability that allows hackers to access Peloton’s touchscreen and potentially spy on riders via its microphone and camera. The good news is that the threat likely only affects the model used in public spaces, such as in hotels or gyms, because the hacker needs to physically access the screen using a USB drive. McAfee’s Advanced Threat Research team says a hacker could discreetly control the stationary bike’s screen remotely and install apps that look like Netflix or Spotify and steal the users’ log-in information. Alarmingly, the team was able spy on users via the camera and mic, which is normally used for video chats with other users. (Never have I felt MORE SAFE from a cybersecurity threat…)
➢ Tencent Robotics X Lab, has unveiled what some are calling a “Segway on steroids.” The terrifying-looking new “novel wheel-legged robot” named ‘Ollie’ drives on 2 wheels and has leg-like appendages. Thanks to plenty of power and a creepy tail, Ollie can jump a foot in the air — and even do a backflip while jumping over a gap, as shown in a newly-released video. Thanks to its extremely flexible extremities, it can drive down a flight of stairs, backflip over a crevasse, and even deliver coffee to its makers, thanks to a long robotic arm. All this, and it manages to remain upright no matter what kind of abuse is hurled its way. But before you add Ollie to your Christmas wish list, be aware that it is still “very much” in development. (Sounds great, but so far, it hasn’t done anything our intern hasn’t!)

IT TAKES ALL KINDS:
⇒ A man was forced to spend almost an entire day eating at a Waffle House restaurant. Why? A 24-hour eating marathon was his official punishment for coming in dead last in his fantasy football league. 25-year-old Lee Sanderlin of Jackson Mississippi started his cholesterol-raising residency early Thursday evening, starting off with 2 tasty waffles. For each additional waffle eaten, an hour was shaved off his “24-hour sentence”. Despite ‘losing the contents of his stomach’ and rallying halfway through the challenge, Sanderlin managed to down 9 syrup-drenched waffles to reduce his stay to 15 hours, instead of 24. He live-tweeted his adventure throughout the night and the next morning, signing off with the words: “This was horrible and I recommend no one ever do this.” (I’ve been to Waffle House. Half their clientele does that every time they visit – voluntarily!)
⇒ Twin sisters Anna and Lucy DeCinque are close. Real close. The 35-year-olds from Perth, Australia, say they consider themselves “one person” and insist on being “identical” in every way. That includes their shared fiancé, Ben Byrnes – and their plans to raise children with him in the same household. The pair have appeared on TLC’s “Extreme Sisters,” in which Lucy tells their mother that any kids would be “shared” among them. And why not? Lucy says they also go to the bathroom together…and when one showers, the other “comes with” her. Anna, Lucy and their electrician fiancé have been inseparable since 2011. (He’s the envy of every other guy…except the ones who have met these two!)

THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE IN YOUR HOME AFTER AGE 30:
(According to an interior designer…)
☞ Stuffed animals on your bed: Despite him being half-naked, there’s nothing sexy about Winnie the Pooh, nor is there any excuse for having him on your bed past age 18, and that’s being generous. (There’s a whole world of decorative pillows out there for you to discover…)
☞ Old trophies: No one needs to know that you won the Miss Senior Grand Champion Physical Culture Award at age 10. (No one even needed to know that THEN!)
☞ Plastic cups, plates & cutlery: The only plastic thing that should be touching your lips is a McD’s straw after a big night out. (And even plastic straws are questionable these days…)
☞ Your old mattress: A mattress should be treated like Joan Rivers treated her face: Replace it every 10 years. (And stick it in front of a camera whenever Johnny Carson goes on vacation?)
☞ Dreamcatchers: If you’ve had dreamcatchers above your bed since you were a kid and you’re now over 30, you’ve caught all the dreams you’re going to catch.
☞ Anything galactic: Quilt cover sets with suns, moons and stars on them: not permitted. Glow-in-the-dark images stuck to the ceiling: absolutely not. Artwork depicting the planets: solely for 5th graders. (Can I get a mulligan on this one?)
☞ Corkboards: After 30, cork is best left off boards and in champagne bottles. Install something covered in a fabric, like felt. (You have to admit, they’re “tacky”!)
☞ Shot glasses: By all means keep barware (and booze!) on hand, just put it in a cabinet where it belongs. (Snooki and The Situation should not be your style icons!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The US government is investing $3 billion on developing pills to fight the coronavirus early in the course of infection, potentially saving many lives for years to come. The new program, announced by the Department of Health and Human Services, will speed up the clinical trials of a few promising drug candidates. Some of those first pills could be ready by the end of the year. The Antiviral Program for Pandemics will also support research on entirely new drugs — not just for the coronavirus, but for viruses that could cause future pandemics.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “First Day of Summer”, in the Northern Hemisphere. Also known as Summer Solstice, it is observed when the Sun reaches its northernmost point in the sky, making it the day with the longest period of light. Summer arrived late last night (11:32pm EST), making this the first DAY of summer. (And it’s also Monday. It’s gonna be a loooooong day!)
➢ The solstice is also when those in the northern hemisphere see the highest sun of the year. But it’s getting lower over time. That’s because Earth’s tilt is slowly decreasing.
➢ The solstice is when the sun is lowest in the sky for those at the equator.
➢ The word ‘solstice’ comes from the Latin words “sun” and “stoppage.” Makes sense: the sun stops moving north that day. (Sounds scary, though…)
➢ Today, the sun rises farthest left on the horizon, and sets at its rightmost possible spot. Sunlight strikes places in your rooms that get illuminated at no other time. (Should’ve dusted!)
➢ Most importantly: “It’s the start of Summer!” (Or, Winter, if you live below the equator)
• “Take Your Cat to Work Day”, because you’ve needed to clear everything off your desk for months…
• “Atheist Solidarity Day”, a day of awareness, when atheists are encouraged to be open about their lack of belief in god and not fear harmful consequences.
• “Go Skateboarding Day”, an unofficial annual holiday conceived by the International Association of Skateboard Companies to promote boarding. (BYOBandaids)
• “International Day of Yoga”, first declared by the UN in 2015 to recognize the importance of yoga as a physical, mental, and/or spiritual practice. (And to some, a great spectator sport!)
• “Peaches & Cream Day”, not the complexion nor the corn variety but the real deal. You won’t find a better Summer treat than fresh-sliced peaches covered with real cream.
• “Selfie Day”, encouraging the world to take selfies and post them online. (Is it Kim Kardashian’s birthday or something?)
• “World Handshake Day” … but only after you use your hand sanitizer, OK?
• “World Music Day”, honoring amateur and professional musicians alike. The primary aim is to provide free music to everyone, and to encourage amateur musicians to showcase their work to the world. (Unless they play the accordion…)

✓ The “dog days of summer” refer to the weeks between July 3 and August 11 and are named after the Dog Star (Sirius).
