BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “The Bachelor” franchise made history on Friday by announcing Matt James as the next Bachelor, making him the first Black male to receive the title. That came several days after Bachelor Nation launched a petition calling for more diversity within the franchise, both in terms of the cast and the crew. The executive producers of the Bachelor franchise released a statement in which they pledged to make changes to address the lack of diversity on their shows.

★ Since the series finale in 2007, fans of “The Sopranos” have been trying to figure out what really happened to mob boss Tony Soprano — and now they have an answer. In a leaked interview, series creator David Chase accidentally let it slip that Soprano was, in fact, killed in the series finale. While viewers only saw Tony and his family dining while a hitman was waiting to attack before the screen faded to black, now, over a decade later, Chase inadvertently referred to it as the “death scene”. The ambiguous ending and question of whether Tony was murdered has continued for years and has spawned numerous websites devoted to finding out what really happened to the show’s protagonist.

★ Sofia Vergara’s ex-fiancé Nick Loeb has filed ANOTHER lawsuit over the former couple’s frozen embryos. They’ve been involved in dueling court battles for years. During their relationship, Vergara and Loeb decided to freeze embryos in case they wanted to have children. The contract they signed states both parties must agree before the embryos can be brought to life. The pair broke up without ever having used the embryos. In the newly filed lawsuit, Loeb argues the reason he wants to bring the embryos to life is his pro-life and pro-parenthood stance. He claims to believe “life begins at the moment an egg is fertilized by a sperm.”

★ Warner Bros. has postponed “Wonder Woman 1984” by another two months, from Aug. 14 to Oct. 2. This marks the second shift for the superhero sequel, directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot. The film was originally set to kick off summer on June 5, but was delayed until August due to the coronavirus pandemic. This change comes after the shifting of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” from July 17 to July 31. And if you think changing release dates of major movies doesn’t mess up their promotional campaigns, check this out: Wonder Woman 1984 Doritos bags are already on store shelves

• Pink Floyd – On Wed., guitarist David Gilmour will release his first new music in 5 years, the song ‘Yes, I Have Ghosts’. It is part of the music he wrote for the audiobook version of wife and author Polly Samson’s “A Theatre for Dreamers”.
• Quiet Riot – are planning a socially distanced Fourth of July concert at Magic Springs Theme and Water Park in Hot Springs, AR. The park’s website says “social distancing guidelines…will be enforced at all concerts held there. These precautions are especially important for drummer Frankie Banali, who has been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer for more than a year.
• Paul McCartney – Ahead of his 78th birthday on Thursday, he has a birthday wish for everyone. He asks fans to “Watch my PETA video and ditch meat.” 10 years ago, he recorded the video titled “Glass Walls” which brought to light what happens in slaughterhouses.
• Prince — A guitar custom-built for him for his Purple Rain tour, known as the Cloud 2 “Blue Angel,” is up for auction. At last check, top bid was $160,000. Julian’s estimates it will sell for $400,000 to $600,000 by the time the bidding ends on June 19.
• Garth Brooks – will stage a one-night concert event to 300 drive-in theatres across North America June 27. Tickets went on sale Friday for $100. Brooks calls it “social distancing partying.”
• Lady Antebellum – have announced they are dropping “Antebellum” and will now go by “Lady A”. They say they were previously unaware that the term “Antebellum South” refers to the period before the Civil War when slavery was legal. The problem now? Seattle blues singer Anita White has performed under the name “Lady A” for more than two decades.

DOOMSCROLLING:
Are you a “doomscroller”? That’s a new term being used to describe those of us who feel the need to read the seemingly endless stream of upsetting news headlines that emerge on social media in times of distress. But you probably figured that out. That’s the beauty of it. Doomscrolling is exactly what you’d think it would be. Merriam-Webster recently flagged doomscrolling as one of the words it is watching for entry into the dictionary. Why do we do it? Experts say our inclination to doomscroll comes from an instinct to seek out information on anything we feel is bad or dangerous, even if that information is scarce or incomplete. The problem is that in the case of the pandemic, because it has no borders, consuming more and more information about it can make us feel helpless. If you can’t stop yourself from doomscrolling, you should at least set a time limit, and when that time comes, log off and get some rest.
(And you guessed it…I came across this while – doomscrolling!)
(Before 2020, the only doomscrolling I ever did was going through my teenagers’ Twitter feed…)
(Actually, if I’m using the word, I’m pretty sure it’s no longer new or cool. It’s officially passé!)

EGG-CITING:
In the latest chapter of millennial nostalgia, the Tamagotchi is making a comeback 23 years after its North American release. The highly-coveted electronic egg-shaped toy from Japan — which was frequently sold out in toy stores – will soon launch a new, updated product. The Tamagotchi On Wonder Garden will go one better than the 90s version which had a simple black-and-white screen showing a young chick that, if properly cared for, grew larger and lived a happy life. In 2020, the Tamagotchi will feature enhanced color graphics and will connect with a mobile app (of course…). While the original Tamagotchi required annoyingly constant care to prevent the pet from dying, the “On” series allows busy users to drop off the pet at a hotel for day care service. But users must still keep it fed and entertained; when it needs something, and even when the screen is off, the toy will beep. The new Tamagotchi drops on July 26 with a list price of $59.99 US.
(So you pay for a toy to create so much work for you that you have to pay someone else to look after it for a while so you can have a break? Sounds like parenthood!)
(What toy from your youth would you like to see updated?)

WALK ON THE JOB:
A Belgian man says that while in lockdown, he has walked nearly 1,000 miles (1600km) using his treadmill desk. While working from home, IT professional Yves Hanoulle has covered 930 miles from home by pacing each day on a treadmill which is installed under his desk. He says he walks at around 1.4 mph for eight hours each working day, and sometimes in the evening he gets crazy and turns up the speed and walks while reading a book. He’s done 27,000 steps a day for three months, clocking more than 12.5 miles per day. He got the idea to walk while working after reading that sitting has been called “the new smoking” by health experts.
(So if your IT guy sounds extra “breathy” on the phone…)
(I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, and this guy can reformat a hard drive at 1.5 miles per hour?)
(That’s fine for him…but I feel like I’ve already been on a career treadmill for 15 years…)

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON:
With Father’s Day coming on Sunday, a new poll says that guys feel they start “becoming” their father at age 37. The survey of 2,000 Americans also found that 68% of males feel more like their own father with every passing year. What are the top traits we inherit from our fathers? 37% of men say it is how seriously we take grilling. 35% say it is our tendency to repair things instead of buying them new, and 28% said it is our appreciation of “dad” jokes. Other top traits we can thank dad for:
• Telling my kids to ask their mother: 26%
• Falling asleep on the couch with the game on: 25%
• Grunt when I get off the couch: 25%
• Mute commercials: 22%
• Love to mow the lawn: 22%
• Don’t like when people touch the thermostat: 21%
• Finish everyone else’s plate at a restaurant: 18%
(I resemble that! Whoops, sorry – Dad joke!)
(How can I turn into my father when I’m not done being a child yet?)

DID YOU KNOW?
The world’s tallest dog has set another record. Enormous Freddy — who is over 7 feet (2.13m) tall standing on his back legs — has turned 8 years old, making him the oldest known living Great Dane in the world. Freddy’s owner, Claire Stoneman of Norfolk, England, threw the big dog a birthday party last month to celebrate, along with his sister Fleur, who is from the same litter and is just minutes younger.
