BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
While we’re still watching “Amazing Race 7″ to see if “Survivor” winners Rob & Amber clean up again, word has it popular “Survivor contestant Rupert (Boneham), along with his wife, daughter & foster child, may be part of the upcoming special family-edition “Amazing Race 8″ (the growth career of the new millennium – professional reality star) . . . A museum dedicated to the career of the late Ray Charles is scheduled to open in his former Los Angeles recording studio sometime in 2007 (because it’s never too late to make money off the man) . . . Paul Hester, drummer for 80’s bands Crowded House and Split Enz, has committed suicide – while walking his dogs in a Melbourne, Australia park (“OK boys, play dead!”) . . . A bigscreen version of the 1980’s TV show “Dallas” is in the works, tentatively starring Catherine Zeta-Jones as ‘Pamela’ and perhaps Brad Pitt as ‘Bobby’, that will present the ‘Ewing’ family as they would exist in 2006 (this is how film development is now done – throw up a vague idea and a couple of star names, then see what sticks) . . . “DEBS” actress Sara Foster & “Sin City” actor Benicio del Toro have reportedly been dating for a month or so (even for Benicio, that’s a lot of elevator rides!) . . . And according to “Advertising Age”, McDonald’s hopes to see its signature sandwich in several hit songs this summer, by offering rappers (who are willing to sell-out) a fee ranging from $1-to-5 for each time a tune airs mentioning the ‘Big Mac’ (just great, now we have product placement on radio!).

• Bellamy Brothers – TODAY they celebrate the 30th anniversary of their hit “Let Your Love Flow” with the release of “Angels & Outlaws Vol 1″, featuring 20 guest stars singing new versions of their hits.
• Bruce Springsteen – TODAY the title track and first single from his upcoming album “Devils & Dust” becomes exclusively available for download from Apple’s iTunes Music Store for 1 week.
• Coldplay – They missed out on a large bonus from EMI due to the late delivery of their upcoming album “X & Y” (now due JUNE 6th), but Chris Martin says they readily passed on the financial incentive to make sure they produced what they wanted.
• k-os – TONIGHT he’s on CBS-TV’s “Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson”.
• Mariah Carey – SATURDAY she celebrated her 35th birthday with a life-size cake modeled on … herself, of course. The $9,500 cake, filled with praline butter cream, was created by a team of 17 chefs from London’s famous Harrods store.
• Nelly – He’s canceled 1 show and postponed 3 others on his current tour after the death of his sister from leukemia.
• The Game – He’s been denied entry into Mexico after refusing to allow airport customs agents to inspect his luggage. That’s caused him to fly back home and miss 2 concert dates.

• “Closer” (Drama – DVD): A story of 4 strangers (Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman & Clive Owen) which follows their chance meetings, instant attractions and casual betrayals. Clive Owen first played his role in the original stage production. He and Portman both received Academy Award nominations for the film.
• “After the Sunset” (Crime Comedy – DVD): Pierce Brosnan & Salma Hayek play a retired master thief and his accomplice, residing in their own tropical paradise. Their old FBI-agent nemesis (Woody Harrelson) shows up to make sure they stay retired as one of the world’s largest diamonds is exhibited nearby. Don Cheadle & Naomie Harris co-star.
• “Vera Drake” (Drama – DVD): In her Oscar-nominated role, Imelda Staunton plays an abortionist who finds her beliefs and practices clash with those of 1950s Britain, a conflict that leads to tragedy for her family. The film was also Oscar-nominated for ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Screenplay’. Talk about a shoestring budget – there was no money to buy music rights, so when the script called for actors to hum – they were asked to hum something generic!

ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT SPAM:
British-based security firm Mirapoint says many e-mail users are careless and irresponsible, and that’s what’s helping to sustain the spam industry. For instance, their research shows 1 in 10 e-mail users have purchased products advertised in junk mail, thus making it a fairly attractive business given its inexpensive cost. A market analyst says until people stop buying, security threats including spam, viruses and so-called ‘phishing’ scams will continue to proliferate.

SEALING SEASON STARTS:
TODAY Canada’s annual 2-month seal hunt begins on ice floes off the east coast. The federal government has announced it will allow 320,000 young seals to be killed THIS YEAR because the hunt helps ‘ensure the health of the booming seal population’. Pictures of hunters clubbing defenceless animals to death have turned the event into an annual PR headache, and animal-rights groups claim many animals are skinned alive and die in agony. (In these days of techno-wizardry, couldn’t someone come up with a better way to do this than ‘the club’?)

BUT MOMMY SAID SHARING WAS A GOOD THING!
The federal government is proposing several changes to Canada’s Copyright Act that are aimed at stopping file sharing using programs like Kazaa. If the amendments become law, Internet service providers would be forced to keep records of users who swap large numbers of songs, movies or TV shows online. The proposed amendments are expected to be introduced in the House of Commons later in the Spring. (The bottom line, kids – don’t get greedy and no one will likely ever bother you about it.)

Earl Spencer, Princess Diana’s money-grubbing brother, has found yet another way to make moolah off her memory – renting out the family’s ancestral home ‘Althorp’, including Di’s former bedroom, for ‘weekend stays or longer’. The tacky sales pitch appears in a magazine sent to holders of American Express’ exclusive Centurion card, but has nothing to do with the card itself. Althorp, where Princess Di is buried and memorialized in an exhibit, lost more than $400,000 LAST YEAR due to a decline in visitors. (Some of the exhibit is now on international tour – keep in mind who’s cleaning up the cash if you’re considering buying a ticket.)

SONY PSP, THE NEW WALKMAN?
Sony is introducing North America to its new handheld gaming device, Playstation Portable or ‘PSP’. With its 10-cm (4-in) screen and sleek black design, experts say it just may be the hottest gaming gadget in years. It has already sold more than 1 million units in Japan and generated several urban myths about its capabilities. Here‘s the truth …
• It can NOT be hooked up to a TV screen, it’s shiny little widescreen is the only place to catch the action.
• You can NOT watch TV on it, although Sony hasn’t ruled out TV-tuner hardware in the future.
• It uses a new 1.8-gigabyte disc format called ‘UMD’, meaning old Playstation games and DVDs will not work.
• It CAN connect to wireless ‘hot spots’, but currently lacks software for browsing the Internet.

DO-IT-YOURSELF BOOBS:
A revolutionary technique using stem-cell research could soon allow women to – grow their own breast implants! For the first time, scientists are now able to grow human fat cells in the laboratory, and one application may be breast enhancements made of living tissue instead of silicone or saline implants. Jeremy Mao, professor of tissue engineering at the University of Illinois, acknowledges there could be a substantial cosmetic market but is more interested in the long-term possibility of growing replacement organs for transplant surgery. (Save money – don’t throw out that fat from your liposuction!)

M-PEZ-3:
The Pez dispenser, is about to go digital! Gadget design company Lincoln West Studios will soon begin selling MP3 players modeled on the candy’s big-headed plastic sleeves. The ‘Pez MP3′ will arrive sometime THIS SUMMER, built around a 512-MB computer chip and an LCD screen. The device will look exactly like a traditional Pez dispenser from 2 sides and will come in a variety of colors. Unfortunately, there’s no room left to fill it with any of the little candies, but
you can swap out its plastic head with any made for regular Pez dispensers. MSRP: about $US129.

• A driving instructor in Amsterdam, Netherlands has been arrested after arguing with a fellow motorist over his student’s driving skills. Things escalated, the motorist pulled a knife, then the instructor hit him with a baseball bat! Now they’re both going to court. (The Yankees are interested.)
• A Czech tractor driver has died after being crushed by – 8 tons of crap. The 34-year-old was killed when the manure load fell on him as he was dumping it in a field. (His last words were, “Well thanks a s–load!”)
• The UK’s Cambridge University has banned Scottish students from wearing kilts at graduation ceremonies in order to underline its policy that all students are equal. (And must wear underwear.)
• 40-year-old US resident Dai Yueqin has given residents of her hometown of Tong Xiang, China a treat by letting down her hair – all 4.2 m (13.8 ft) of it! Even though she hasn’t cut her hair since she was 14-years-old, there’s still at least one person with longer hair. According to “Guinness World Records”, Thai healer Hoo Sateow’s locks were measured at 5.15 m (16.9 ft) in 1997.
